Summary

The tears in space turn out to be a side effect of the Askran Kingdom's gateway-opening powers. Sharena explains that Alfonse was captured by Thórr—who calls herself the god of war—and sent to this world. Hoping to save Alfonse, the party decides to gather more information.

What an impressive castle! I know, right? Welcome to the Halidom! Er, I mean...welcome to our entire world? Thanks! I appreciate all the hospitality, especially after popping out of a gate uninvited the way I did. You're always welcome here, Sharena. And I apologize for dragging you into a battle instead of giving you the proper reception you deserve. You didn't drag me into anything. In fact, I am likely the one who should be offering up apologies. Are you referring to when you said the source of the rifts was related to the power of your family? If so, could you tell us more? Certainly. So as I am sure my brother told you, the royal family of Askr has the ability to open gates. Now, we are very good at opening gates to worlds that have stable "doors." But in a world like this... Right, I remember. This world is unstable compared to yours, and highly sensitive to your powers. Which causes new passages to open up all over the place. So that means that Alfonse has come to this world, yeah? Actually, my brother was captured during a battle. Prince Alfonse has been captured?! That guy's tougher than a box of old nails. Hard to imagine anybody gettin' the better of him in a fight. Good point, Ranzal. His foe must have been very powerful indeed. Actually, his foe was...a god. A god?! Yes. She is Thórr—or "the god of war," as she insists on calling herself. And she is a powerful enemy indeed. We fought her with everything we had, but she still ended up taking my brother. I'm so sorry to hear that, Sharena. Er, but why did Thórr bring him here? Because she has business in this place. My brother is just a means to that end. What could she want from us? We don't even KNOW this woman! I don't know. Not exactly, anyway. But she said something about "judging the worthiness of certain otherworldly heroes as warriors for the heavens." She also said she would use my brother's power to reach the "dragonblood realm." I figured she must have meant this world. "The dragonblood realm," is it? Well, that does seem an apt description. But what's the part about judging the worth of heroes? Sounds like this Thórr god lady is comin' here to put us through our paces and see if we all measure up. I don't care if she IS a god—she has no right to judge any of us! And I fail to understand why she would carefully explain her scheme to you before undertaking it. Unless she is attempting to lure you into some manner of trap? I don't think it's a trap—Thórr is just obsessed with testing us mortals. You'd be surprised how often this kind of thing happens to us. She's always saying things to us like, "I'm giving you this challenge, so show me you have the strength to prevail!" ...And so forth. Well, that's all fine and dandy for a god, but it sure does suck for the poor sap what's gettin' put through the wringer! Yes, it does get very old. She sounds like a difficult person. Er, or a difficult god, I guess? Well, at least now we have some idea of what we're dealing with—as well as why you think Alfonse has come here. Indeed, Alfonse was the one who told me about all of you in the first place. It's a lucky thing that I was able to find you on the first try! Feels a little deus ex machina to me, but what the hell do I know? I wish we had something more to go on besides vague hunches. Well, I don't know if this will help, but a bunch of our friends disappeared at the same time my brother was taken. If that is all Thórr's doing, she may have brought them to this world as well. Do you think Thórr is using your friends as part of her plan to test us? It's a possibility. Anyway, if there have been any weird incidents around here lately, it might be an indication that my missing friends are close by. And if we find them, they might be able to lead us to Thórr or Alfonse! "Weird incidents" is casting a fairly wide net, don't you think? One of the villages nearby had some carrots go bad in the field! Is that the kind of thing you're lookin' for? Oh, and I heard about a town where everybody keeps oversleeping! And my hair has been all split ends lately—I hope that IS Thórr's doing so it returns to normal after I kick her butt all the way back to heaven! Ah! Perhaps you're right! Wait, really?! My split ends?! No. I mean, yes, split ends have been driving me crazy as well, and I'd be thrilled if I could blame Thórr for that... But I mean the other one—the one about folks oversleeping. Are they just missing the first rooster crow, or are they so deeply asleep you can't wake them up? Uh, all I heard was that there are some folks who just won't wake up... We've had similar incidents on our world; it's possible one of our friends is involved! Sounds like it's time to head over and take a look for ourselves.
