Summary

On New Year's Eve, a girl from the east named Botan rushes into the Halidom, followed shortly by a group of fiends she'd been battling. In the midst of the chaos, a man named Ieyasu—who is the leader of one of the Twelve Wyrmclans— also shows up to lend a hand.

It's time for one final deep cleaning before we put this year to bed. The prince and Luca will tackle the storeroom, Ranzal the courtyard, Mym the hall, and Elisanne the larder. No no! So um, is there perchance someone in this castle claiming to be the head of one of the Twelve Wyrmclans? Doubtful, considering I've never heard of the Twelve Wyrmclans before this very moment. What are they exactly? They are the successors to the shogunate, the government that rules Hinomoto. The head of the shogunate is called the "shogun"—basically the head general. The shogunate is a military form of government, then? Essentially, yeah. But the shogun isn't JUST a military leader. I guess you'd say he's kind of like a king. Wait—how is he "kind of like" a king? What does that mean? Ah, right. You see, Hinomoto is a nation ruled by both dragons AND humans. How the heck does THAT work?! Easy! A dragon named Amaterasu rules over the other dragons, while the shogun commands all of the humans. Although Amaterasu really only acts when the nation is in some kind of danger. The day-to-day aspects of ruling are all carried out by the shogun—who Amaterasu appoints to the position, by the way. I see... So the shogun is only "kind of like" a king because he shares his power with the ruler of dragons. One half of the whole. And the people who can become shogun come from one of the Twelve Wyrmclans? So they're basically all just like Euden! GRAAAARGH! The heck?! That's a fiend—and it's close! Terrible news, Your Highness! We got a horde'a fiends incomin' here, and they're incomin' fast! Oh, poo. They must have followed me. FOLLOWED you?! Like I said, I came to this castle because I thought someone from the Twelve Wyrmclans might be here. But while I was traveling this stupid fiend nest got in my way and I kinda sorta...smashed it up real good. WHAAAT?! Well, that would certainly explain their current displeasure. We can't let them into the castle—we have to go outside and intercept them! Chew on this, pal! GRAAAGH! Nice job, lady! Next time, maybe DON'T go pissin' off a whole barrel'a fiends, yeah?! Did he just turn into a dragon?! Yep. He's got the gift of transformation. This is Master Ieyasu, head of one of our Twelve Wyrmclans, peerless warrior, and successor to the shogunate of Hinomoto! A warrior who can turn into a dragon and also leads his people? Where have I heard this story before...? It's...just like my family. Enough standing around all slack-jawed— we got more fiends on the way! Right. Let's mop up the rest!
