Summary

When tears leading to the otherworld start to repeatedly appear, the group realizes the cause is Alfonse and his allies, causing them to search even harder for a way home. In pursuit of clues, the group makes its way to a secret Empire laboratory.

Dialogue

After Alfonse and his allies help protect the town, some time passes. Back in the Halidom, Alfonse and the others continue searching for a way home. However... Welcome back, Prince Alfonse. ...Uh oh. Judging from the look on your face, I'm guessing things didn't go well. Well, I suppose such is wont to happen more times than not; locating a new means to move from one world to another is no mean feat. Indeed. If we could freely open such paths as you can in your world, this would be far less troubling. I've been digging through old tomes in an attempt to find a solution to our problem, but the results have been less than stellar. I'm sorry. I wish we could be more help. Don't help that the Empire's been even more active than usual lately. Every time those chumps pop up, it takes time away from lookin' for yer home. You have provided more than able assistance. Why, it's only thanks to you that we've been able to focus on our objective at all. It's possible that the Dyrenell Empire's increased activity of late is somehow tied into Loki's presence. It seems our problems have become yours. Any friend of the Empire is an enemy of ours, so we'll just take her out with the rest of the trash! Trash party, wooo! Well, I thank you for your enthusiasm. Pardon my changing of the subject, but there is a matter I wish to discuss. What is it? As we made our way back, a rip in space suddenly appeared and disgorged a good amount of black mana. A tear into the otherworld! Is that significant? These tears occur in the border between this world and the beyond. They lead to a place called "the space between worlds." Then this "space between worlds" serves as a sort of nexus between one world and the next? Interesting... I wonder... Were we to pass through that place, might it take us home? If you'd like to die, feel free to try it. Do you know something of this? No. But I DO know none of you can survive the power that sleeps there. Not that I care what happens to you. Veronica is correct—if a bit harsh. The space between worlds is a profoundly warped area of existence. Merely stepping into it is enough to snuff out the life of an average person. And the rifts needed to enter it aren't exactly common. Can you tell us more about what you saw? What happened to it? It disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived. It seems I was right to think it far from an ordinary phenomenon... Yes, this is certainly something we should start looking into. Forgive me, Your Highness, but I've an urgent report of a rip in space suddenly appearing in a nearby village! And there are a crapload of fiends spillin' out of it! Like, a METRIC crapload! We have to help them! We will accompany you. Let us be off!

...That really is a tear into the otherworld. But why is it appearing HERE? Questions later, fiend-slayin' first! Haaaaah! Guys, I don't wanna be a nag or whatever, but maaaaaybe we should think about plugging the stupid hole all these fiends keep coming out of? If you know of a way to close it, Notte, I am more than willing to liste... It...closed up?! What's going on here...? This is not normal behavior for such an object? Not really, no. I mean, these rips are inherently unstable, but to have one just wink out like that is...unusual. Eh, who cares! Problem solved for now, am I right? ...G-guys? ...GUYS! LOOK OVER THERE! Huh? Is that ANOTHER tear?! Dammit! We got more fiends incomin'! Everybody grab a weapon and... ...Okay, now THAT one closed up? Oh, and Princess Veronica. Mmm? Unlike the world you come from, this one is rather...unstable. And it seems that the combined effect of the Askran power to open gates, and the Emblian power to close them, has sent it reeling. Then WE are the cause of these rifts? Did I not just make that perfectly clear? Goodness, but you ARE dense sometimes. This is our fault... Yes, I'm sure it's a bitter pill to swallow for a sweet, naive thing like yourself. But don't worry, dear. I've come with a plan to make everything neat as a pin again! The solution is exceptionally simple: Either the power of Askr OR the power of Embla must disappear from this world. Askr and Embla are two sides of a coin. If only one is present, the power stops. Maybe that outfit is cutting off the blood to your brain, but we've been trying to send them home this entire time! Have you considering killing one of them? That would solve the problem nicely. By the gods! Oh, and if you decide to do that, please make sure I'm invited. I DO love a good show! But until then, have fun in this chaotic hellscape of a world you created. Byeee! If I did that, I would be no better than the wicked demon himself. What demon is this? A thousand years ago, a terrible evil attacked this world and... Wait. That's it! I forgot about the legend! What legend is this? During the era when humans and dragons warred with each other, the humans found a novel way to battle their enemy. They created a kind of portal called the Uncanny Gate and used it to summon forth a wicked demon from another world. They CREATED a path to another world?! The demon was eventually sealed away, but three hundred years ago, the Dyrenell Empire began an investigation into how to open the gate in an attempt to revive it. Then they would have the knowledge of how to create such a gate? It's certainly possible, which means we should go investigate as soon as we can!
