Episode 1

The Mysterious Priest

Help me, Ryozen... The person I care for most is suffering, and there's nothing I can do to help her. Besides just listening to her woes, that is... Nothing you can do, eh? Ha ha ha! Don't be a fool, youngster! You're already doing plenty. What? Comforting her, listening to her—that's eased her pain more than you can know. Her thoughts come through clear as daylight to ol' Ryozen. My intuition never lets me down. Really...? That's right. Just stay by her side and keep supporting her like you have been. That's the funny thing about people... Sometimes all they need is a shoulder to lean on. Thank you, Ryozen... Thank you! Wise words. He seems like quite the virtuous priest. You there! Young'un! Got a minute for an old man's ramblings? Huh? Oh, um, of course. You're a knight, aren't ya? I could tell from one look. Why did you take up the sword? Why do you fight? To protect this land and its people. But is fighting really necessary for that? Seems like just being there for people when they need help would be enough. I've often had that same thought. Flying Free

I know that Father Ryozen is in this castle. Nothing good will come of concealing him here. I wish to see him. ...Now, if you please. Haven't ya been listenin' to anything I've been saying? I don't know a Ryozen! Playing dumb to the last, I see. Very well. I shall have a look for myself. Oh yeah? Don't remember invitin' ya inside. Ya better leave before I MAKE ya leave— and I ain't gonna be gentle about it. ...Fine. I will go. But mark my words: I shall return. Nicely done, Ranzal. Those Ilian priests are spoiled brats. Enough about him. I think ya owe me a few words in return for protectin' ya. Ha ha ha! Right you are, my boy. Thank you. That ain't what I meant. Just who the hell ARE ya, anyway? Oh, just a retired old man in his dotage. No one of importance, I assure you. Ya can't expect me to buy that. ...Hmph. All right. There was a time, many, many years back, when I was the archbishop of the Ilian Church. WHAAAT?! How long were ya gonna keep that to yerself? ...Wait, and why'd ya quit? Oh, ol' Ryozen's much more suited to flying free than being cooped up in a cage. Now then, if you don't mind... Where ya goin'? Ha ha! This bird has to stretch his wings! That dumb geezer ain't got a care in the world. Ah, Ranzal. Have you seen Ryozen, by chance? Ya just missed him. Why? He's been stealing morsels from the food I was planning to serve for lunch. Such childish behavior—and at his age! This is not the first time, either. But whenever I seek to admonish him, he disappears. Huh. Guess that explains why he bolted outta here. I dunno whether to be impressed or annoyed...

Episode 3

The Power to Bring Peace

Raaaaagghh! Hyaaaah! Hmph. That should do it. You were like a blur... Completely unencumbered by the fiends. It's hard to believe you are in your 70s. Ha ha ha! Ol' Ryozen's been at this a long, long time. Believe it or not, people used to call me a demon. Nothing could stop me once I got going... But the years have weakened me some. Yer pretty far from weak... You're amazing, Ryozen. I envy your strength. Those are dangerous thoughts, Prince Euden. When I was a young'un, I used to think that if I could just get strong enough, I could save the whole world. But I was wrong. Bringing peace to the world takes a different sort of power. Which is? Well, whaddya think? Hmmm... Military might? Nah...that ain't it. Ya can't just fight peace into existence. And it probably ain't money, neither... Political influence, perhaps? No... That always carries the risk of sparking war... And you, Prince Euden? What do you think? I... ...... No guesses, mmm? Well, it's nothing to twist yourself into knots over. One day, you'll find your answer. I'll tell you as soon as I do, Ryozen. Ha ha! Well, all this thinking has got ol' Ryozen famished! Enough philosophy! C'mon now, back to the castle! Time to give our brains a rest and fill our bellies!

True Salvation

This presence... Ryozen? Where are you going? Hold on a— S-someone! Help! What is it? What happened? B-bandits... They attacked my village... Please, you have to help us! All right, I'm on my way! That must be the village that's under attack. I have to hurry! Capture the women and children alive, ya hear? No damagin' the merchandise! But we got no use for the men, so you can just kill 'em! Bwa ha ha! I'll give you one chance to leave this village in peace and go back wherever you crawled from. Is that Ryozen?! Who the hell are you, old man? Ya got a death wish or somethin'? No respect for your elders, eh? Take this, whippersnapper! Hyaaaaah! Gaaah! H-he beat the boss with one hit! That old man's some kinda monster! Who's next? Ol' Ryozen's got plenty for everybody! Aaaahhh! W-we'll remember this, old man! You'll be sorry! Thank you! You saved us! Please, none of that. Nothing I did was praiseworthy. Whoa... Not even the archbishop anymore, and he's still got that kinda power... He didn't need us at all. That was incredible, Ryozen. You saved that village all on your own. Did I? If you think about it, I wonder if you can really consider this village ＂saved＂... What? Oh sure, I helped the villagers a little... But I still acted violently. The bandits who got away will despise me for what I did—then they'll take that hatred and use it to attack again. Violence only breeds violence. If anything, I just added fuel to the fire. Let me ask you again, Prince Euden. What's the power that can bring peace to the world? It's... ...... Heh. Don't worry—it'll come with time. Ol' Ryozen still has plenty left to learn as well. Ha ha ha! He really is something...

The Answer

The power that brings peace to the world... I've given it so much thought, but the answer still evades me. Each day brings still more battles. The only way to protect this land is to take up arms to defend it. But... No, even armed, there's only so much one person can do... Without my friends, I... Oh! Is that it? You could light a dark room with that smile, Prince Euden. Something good happen? Ryozen! Perfect timing. Listen. About what you asked me before— Ah, yes, the power that brings peace. You've finally figured it out. Right? Yes... How did you know? My stalwart intuition, of course! So go on, tell me: What's your answer? The power that brings peace to the world... is friendship. No matter how strong you are, one person alone cannot bring an end to war. I may have the power to shapeshift, but I can't do anything if I act alone. But having friends changes everything. Together, we can protect people. Together, we can accomplish anything. If there was a way to find common ground with your enemy... Then you could become friends and build peace together. Peace is a product of everyone working together for a common good. I see... What do you think? It's a peach of an answer! Well done. I knew you'd get there before long; there's a good head on those shoulders. Really? I'm glad to hear that, Ryozen. If memory serves, I took far, far longer to find my own answer to that question. I used to seek out battle and use my strength to force an end to the fighting. But it's as I told you before: using brute strength to bend people to your will only breeds hatred and anger. That was something I didn't realize. At least, not until my own acts of violence inspired people to start even more horrible conflicts. I...I had no idea. But you? You're different. No wrong turns on the way to your answer! That's something ol' Ryozen never could've done. But with compassion as boundless as yours, it's little wonder... Prince Euden... You say peace is born from friendship... Then I wonder: Will you let me fight beside you? As your friend? Of course! Your strength is invaluable, and your wisdom even more so. Ha ha ha! Good, good.
