Episode 1

Journey of Discovery

Hey, can the two of you c'mere a sec? I've got some big news to share... I'm goin' on a journey around the world with Euden! Whaaaat?! So where'd this idea come from, anyway? Youngest Blacksmith Sister Renee I mean, we've always been together. Do you hate me now or something? Plus, what's the shop gonna do? We can't make stuff without your flames! That is HARDLY my biggest concern! Eldest Blacksmith Sister Rena The prince has to fight both the Empire and powerful fiends, which means his journeys are inherently dangerous. If you get hurt on this little jaunt, you might never work again! Hey, I understand your concern, guys. I really do. But my mind is made up. But whyyyyyy?! Why are you gonna do something so daaaaangerous?! So I can meet skilled blacksmiths from all over the world! And you think traveling with Euden will let you do that? The prince is always talking to us about the different artisans he meets on his travels, yeah? That means there's all this knowledge just sittin' out there for me to soak up! And sure, I've got Dad's skills, so I know I'm kind of a big deal already... But if I don't go out there and prove myself against the best, I'll just stay at this level for the rest of my life. I want to be BETTER than Dad— which is why I need to do this. I admit, that makes a certain amount of sense. What do you think, Renee? I think it's DUMB! I mean, yeah, I get that all the prince's stories are super interesting... And I get wanting to be the bestest smith ever, 'cause I wanna be that, too... But that doesn't make it okay to go do dangerous things or...or...or LEAVE us! I have to agree. Besides, we already have an important role here making weapons for Euden. Yeah, I guess I'm being selfish... But I ain't changin' my mind! Are you sure there isn't more to this than you're letting on? Not really. I just want to grow as a blacksmith—for the prince's sake as well as my own. You sure seem focused on him. Well, duh! He's the PRINCE. He basically employs us now. Which is why I gotta make stronger weapons so he can lead this land to a true and lasting peace! ...... You're always so Ramona, Ramona. What do you mean? The second you make up your mind to do something, it's impossible to sway you... But that's just because of how strong your feelings are. ...I suppose we'll have to let you go. Have a good trip! You mean it? I can really go? Sure, go ahead. We'll hold the fort down here while you're away. Isn't that right, Renee? Yep! We're gonna be AWESOME! Heck, I'm gonna learn so much, we might not even need you anymore! So hurry back before I become a giant brainy genius or whatever, okay? Heh. I'd like to see that. RUDE! I'm being TOTALLY serious! With her sisters' approval secured, Ramona went to see if the prince wanted a travel companion. ...Anyway, that's my deal. Whaddya think? Makes sense to me. Still, our travels are pretty dangerous. And are you sure your smithy will be all right with you gone? Heh. You sound just like my sisters. But we already told her she can go! So please do take care of her for us. Heh. I should have known you ran this by them first. In that case, welcome aboard, Ramona. Hey, thanks! Okay, guys. I'm leaving things here in your capable hands. Episode 2

Ramona's Other Side

With Ramona in tow, Euden and friends reach a mountain town. Having arrived late, they room in an inn. The next day... *yaaawn* Morning, everyone. ...Hmm? Where's Ramona? I haven't seen her since last night. That's strange—especially since we're supposed to visit the local weapon shop this morning. Ramona strikes me as a dependable individual. If she is not here on time, something unusual must have occurred. We should check her room at once. ...Ramona? Are you here? Mmm... Who... R-Rena...? ...Huh? Elisanne? ...OH NOOOO! Please don't tell me you... Sorry! Sorry! I know I'm crazy late! It's good to see you—we were all worried something terrible had happened. So then, why were you not on time? Ummmmm... She overslept. Overslept?! I would not have thought you the type. I can scarce believe it myself. Did something happen last night that made you overly tired? Are you worried about something, maybe? What, me? Nah. I slept like a fat baby after a trip to a meat buffet. Then why did you oversleep? Actually, I sorta...do that all the time. Basically every day, really. Every day?! It seems everyone holds a surprise or two. Seeing how hard you work in the smithy, I never would have guessed. Well, sure—I'm WORKING there. But I'm super lazy whenever I'm not on the job—probably to make up for it. My sisters always have to wake me up. Er, and do a ton of other stuff for me. This is all very unexpected. Yeah, well, can we maybe stop talking about it now? It's pretty embarrassing. Let's go check out that weapon shop! Change of subject, la la laaaaa! Lead the way, Euden! Sure thing. I think you'll enjoy it—I was stunned by the quality of their lineup last time I was there. I can't wai... Huh? Oh man, look at that clothing store! Ramona, wait! She charged off toward that clothing store at maximum speed... Let's go see what caught her eye. Ramona? What's going on? Yeah, sorry for runnin' off like that. I just wanted to see these duds up close. I don't think I've EVER been this excited by clothing. It's cute—which is another unexpected thing I have learned about you this day. Likewise. I wouldn't have imagined you to be the fashion-oriented type. Oh, this ain't for me to wear— it's inspiration for my smithing! Just look at that elegant stitching— and the delicate detail on the buttons! It's clear that an exceptionally skilled tailor made this—which means it'll be a great reference for my work! Ah. I understand now. There's the Ramona we know. It's always nice to meet those who can appreciate true quality. Do make certain to examine the inner lining as well. ...Oh, wow! It's perfect! Our policy is to handle every part of our products with the same level of care— even those you don't ordinarily see. Ha! I LOVE it! Thanks for lettin' me poke around. It was really informative. Oh, and I'll take every one'a these you have in stock. Thanks! Well, MY day just got made. I'm glad you were able to find something that inspires you. It ain't often you find somethin' with that level of craftsmanship AND design. Wait. Design? Yeah. To put it simply...it's super cute! WHAAAAT?! But did you not just say that your interest came from using them as reference points for your work, not for wearing them? That's right. So I can make weapons that are cute instead of boorish. Then this IS about fashion? Er, or not? I am very confused. The more I learn about you, Ramona, the less I understand you. Eh, I ain't as tough to figure out as all that. I just appreciate both good work AND cuteness when I see it!

Episode 3

Pride's Many Forms

One day, the prince and Ramona visit a cave where valuable ore can be mined. Their goal is to watch the mining process, and for Ramona to use what she sees as a way to improve her smithing skills. Hyah! Huah! Hyah! Wow. No one mines like a rokkan! They definitely have the build for it. Ach, ye be a real pair'a limp noodles! Can't be miners, nay? Us? Miners? Nah. I'm a blacksmith. I thought seein' your work might help me out with my own. A smith? YE? Bwaaa ha ha ha! What's so funny?! Ye ain't big enough to HOLD a hammer, lassie, much less swing it 'round! I seen rokkan TODDLERS what could probably make better weapons'n ye! Ramona is an incredible blacksmith! She provides weapons for me AND all of my people. We'd be lost without her. Aw, thanks, Euden. That so? Well, ye still be a scrawny thing, but might be I misjudged ya... Speakin'a which, what're ye fightin', wee man? Baby lambs? Bwaaa ha ha! Okay, that's enough outta you, pal! I'm gonna show you how wrong you are! ...Yoink! Oy, that's me pickaxe! Stand back, you dope! Hyah! Hyah! Oy, ain't that cute? She's tryin' to mine! Haaah! Hraaah! Jings, that lass is workin' true! Wow! You ARE as strong as a rokkan! 'Course I am—I spend all day swingin' a hammer around! So what do you say now? Ready to eat some crow? Bwaaa ha ha! All right, lass, all right. T'was wrong of me what to peg ye for some kinda weaklin'. Now gimme that pickaxe and I'll show ye how it's REALLY done! Hammer away, my good man. But just as the rokkan man was demonstrating his strength... Are you diggin' in unstable ground or something? Don't be daft, girlie! It's a quake! And a big 'un, too! Make for the exit! The ceiling! Are you all right, Ramona? Yeah, I'm fine. You guys okay? Not more'n a couple'a bruises, but we're in a real jam here. Yeah, looks like a total cave-in. There aren't any tools on this side for me to dig you out. I'm going to go get help. Hold on! Hurry! Sure hope he can move fast on them wee legs'a his! Judgin' by the way our voices sound in here, we're in a pretty tight space. If this takes too long, we might suffocate! Crivens, but this is me own fault! Shoulda felt that quake sooner! Eh, the past is the past. Let's focus on the future. I AM thinkin' of the future, lass! Why ye think I ain't calm?! Do ye not get the trouble we be in?! Oh, I get it. But I also know from my work that nothin' good comes from panic. That so? Oh yeah. I mean, it ain't mining, but there are still a thousand ways to hurt yourself in a smithy. You can burn yourself on the forge... Or sometimes the mana you infuse into a weapon starts to run outta control and explode... And when that happens? Sure, I want to panic. But the tougher things like that get, the more important it is to stay calm. ...... Ye be strong AND brave, lass. Might even make a fine rokkan. ...Sorry for the hassle I gave ye earlier. Heh. Don't worry about it. Er, but now that you're calmer, I could really use your help. With what? Well, you're a mining professional. So you know what to do—and NOT do— during a cave-in like this, yeah? Ye best believe it! Rule Number One: If ye be in a cave-in, don't start another! 'Cause then ye be stuck between a rock and...well, more rock, I guess. All right. Looks like we're safe from that. Now we either gotta wait fer help...or do somethin' on our own. I knew it! We can move this rock! Lend a hand, lass! On it! You really know your stuff! Aye, minin' is the whole world to me. May be daft when it comes to most things, but I sure as hell know plenty 'bout THIS. Now that we know she won't collapse, we can give 'er the ol' welly! Feel up for a little race, lass? Let's see who can shove the most rocks outta the way! You're on! Don't be cryin' to me when ye lose! Bwaaaa ha ha ha ha! You'll be the one cryin', pal! Heeeeeave! Heeeeeeave! They moved rock after rock, boulder after boulder. Until finally... Hey! Are you guys all right?! Sounds like the cavalry has arrived. Looks like our wee competition's over. Now let's see who won... Eh, what does it matter? We're saved now, yeah? Blimey, ye gotta have a winner! ...Bwaaaa ha ha ha! Ha ha ha! Well, you two seem to be on much better terms. I should consider cave-ins as a future team-building exercise. Heh. I just learned this here lass is one I can trust. And I'm happy to trust anyone who stakes their life on knowledge of their job!

Episode 4

A Weapon's Soul

Ooo! Look at the weapons in this smithy! Hmm? What about them? Oh! That's a curious design. During their travels, Ramona and the prince stop at a town where a small smithy catches their eye. They're like nothing I've seen before. They don't look to be from Alberia at all. Yeah. They're really unusual. And impeccably made, too. Those weapons are forged in the style of Taiwu, a country to the east. Interesting. These all your work? Yes, that's right. I come from a family of eastern blacksmiths. But alas, with sales this poor, I fear the line may end with me. Why are sales poor? Yeah, what kind of idiot wouldn't buy a masterpiece like this?! Seriously, what's the story? A new weapon shop opened in town recently and began undercutting my prices. Each day, another customer goes to that shop and never returns. Oh man, that's rough. But as a fellow blacksmith, I can't stand by while weapons of this quality collect dust! I tried reducing my own prices, but I simply can't go any lower. I'm frankly at a loss for what to do. That other shop may have you on price, but there's no way they have your quality! ...And I just thought of the perfect way to make folks appreciate your greatness! I'm gonna have customers flockin' to this store like moths to a flame! Oh, that would be wonderful! So what's your idea? Well, if customers won't come here, we have to go to them! ...Oh dear. There are so many people. A-are we really going to do this? You bet your buns we are—now get out there and show the crowd your talents! If people see your skill firsthand, they'll be knockin' each other over in order to put cash in your hand! Yes, but the thought of smithing in a place this crowded is so... Plus, I can only start a tiny fire—and I'm frankly rather terribly introverted. This ain't no time for bein' shy! This is the path to rebuilding your shop's fortunes. Now get out there and win back the trust of the people! Oh dear... I'll be rooting for you! W-well, I suppose I'll do my best... Ugh. I feared as much, but a fire like this is nowhere near powerful enough to forge. Oh, but this is hopeless... Don't worry—this is where I come in. Are you going to forge with me? No point—you could have a thousand smiths and not be able to forge a spoon with a pitiful flame like this. But wherever I am...fire follows! Arise, O flame! WHOOOOOA! How did you do that?! Ramona has the ability to manipulate the temperature of fire. It's a unique talent she inherited from her father, the legendary blacksmith Regis. Right then! That oughta do it. Now go show 'em what's what! All right! Haaaaah! Hmm? That sounds like a smith at work. Now there's a sight you don't see often. Crowds are starting to gather! What do I DO?! Stay calm and do what you always do! You're a first-class smithy, yeah? So have faith in yourself! All right! Haaah! Spurred on by Ramona's encouragement, the blacksmith swings his hammer with all his might. It doesn't take long for the crowd to see his dedication, and as they do so, their behavior begins to change. This guy really knows what he's doing! Look how fast he finished that blade! *pant* It is...complete... Brilliant—now take this chance to tell everyone how great you are! I will...do my best... Hey! Are you all right?! I...I'm sorry... I'm just a little tired... Musta used up all his energy at the forge. Looks like it's Ramona's time to shine! Listen up, everyone! Did you see the awesome power of this guy's smithing?! He poured his heart and soul into forging this weapon—and he did so because of a single wish in his heart! Was that wish to slay a thousand foes? No! It was a wish for the sword's user to return safely home from battle! How did...she know...? It ain't every day you see a weapon filled with such concern for its wielder! I'll take one! No, three! Me too! You can't put a price on safety! Thanks to Ramona's idea, the blacksmith's weapons quickly become the talk of the town. You saved my business, friend. I don't know how to thank you. Still, how DID you know what I was thinking when I forged that blade? My desire for the user to return home is a secret wish I put into all of my work, but one I speak of to no one. Oh, I could just tell. The blades you craft are thin, but you've taken measures to ensure they never break. From that, I got the feeling these weapons are meant to bring their wielder home, not just cut down foes. Hmm. I see. Before I started on this journey, I might not have noticed that. But it's as clear as day now. Meetin' and talkin' with other craftsmen has done me a world of good. You do seem to have grown a lot in a rather short period of time. All thanks to you, Euden. I've learned a lot on this journey, and I ain't the person I used to be. When I go back to the castle, I'll be able to forge weapons with ten times the heart I had before! Are you thinking of returning? Not thinking—DOING. ...Now come on. It's time to go home. My sisters are waiting for me. Heh. They're not going to believe how much you've grown. She manipulated fire itself... Could she really be...?!

Episode 5

The Steadfast Smith

Thanks to Ramona's ability to manipulate the temperature of fire, the eastern blacksmith's public forging was a great success. Afterward, a man who witnessed the event comes rushing over to her... Excuse me, miss? A moment? Sure, pal. What's up? I am the master of this town's blacksmith guild. I witnessed the display you put on earlier, and wanted to speak with you about it. Uh oh. Did we need the guild's permission to do that? Look, I'm sorry. It was just that— Please, no permission was required. Well, that's good to hear. Then what did you want to speak with her about? The strength of your flame was far greater than one would expect of a fire started in the middle of the village street. That was no ordinary fire. In fact, I think you have a very special ability. Okay, what's going on here?! Ah, forgive me. I didn't mean to raise your suspicions. It's just that when I was yet an apprentice smith, I found myself greatly indebted to someone with the same ability. His name was Regis, and he was the finest blacksmith I have ever known. Wait, you knew Dad?! Then you ARE his daughter! Oh, but it is an honor to meet the child of the man to whom I owe so much! I was shocked when I caught word that he had succumbed to illness. The thought I would never again witness his stunning artistry was...heartbreaking. ...... But I see I was mistaken, for your skill in forging is equal to his in every way! Clearly, you have inherited his talent! Oh wow, that's... Thank you. Still, let me come to my point. As you appear your father's successor in every sense, I have a favor to ask... Would you not consider opening a smithy in this town? Nothing would give me more joy than having you support our guild with your prodigious talents! I know you would be a great success— and once you win the trust of other guild members, you'll likely find yourself in an important post sooner rather than later. What kind of post? Certainly a foreman. You may even find yourself in my position one day. You think I could LEAD the guild?! You certainly have the potential. As I said, I saw what happened earlier— and I quite agree that it's deplorable when quality weapons do not receive the recognition they deserve. You believed this so strongly that you took action, which made people appreciate the importance of quality arms. When we factor in your father's talents, I can hardly think of a person more fitting to lead our guild into the future. Whatcha think, Euden? You don't need to worry about me. What?! Oh, don't get me wrong—it would be a huge blow if we were to lose you. But the goal of this entire journey was for you to grow as a blacksmith. And now that you've done that, it's no wonder you find yourself thinking anew about the future. Hmm... If you want to join this guild— or lead it—I won't stop you. It's your life, after all. Maybe just ask yourself what kind of blacksmith you want to be. I don't... (He's not wrong—my goal WAS to experience new things and grow. And I've certainly met lots of different artisans.) And I've seen the love that skilled smiths hold for their customers. But even with all that, my goal hasn't changed from the day I met you. Oh? That's right. Do you remember why I agreed to help you in the first place? It's because I wanted to put hammer to iron in the name of peace. My weapons are going to support you in building an age free of conflict! That's my goal, and it's important— I can't possibly abandon it now. It sounds like you've thought this out. Well, I'm certainly happy to keep you in the fold! I wasn't aware you were already in the midst of a major undertaking. Still, we are happy to wait for true talent. Once you've seen your work to completion, please consider us anew. I'll think about it for sure. Welp, we better shake the lead out! We've got a lot of folks waitin' for us. Rena! Renee! I'm baaaack! Yaaaaay! Guess what? We've both been working hard, and we learned TONS of new skills! I'm glad to hear that but—URK!— you gotta stop squeezin' me so tight! Welcome home, Sis! How was the journey? Rena...can you please...get her off me...? Hee hee! No can do. Oh, come on! Don't blame me—you're the one who decided to gallivant across the land. So how'd it go, huh? Tell us, tell us, tell uuuuuus! I dunno—I have a LOT of stories. We may have to stay up all night. (Being surrounded by this kind of warmth really makes it sink in that I'm home. And now I can use everything I learned to help all three of us grow.) The sisters talked late into the night. And the next day... Ramonaaaa! Get UP already, lazybones! Mmm? Mooorning, Renee... Zzzzzz... HEY! Don't go back to sleep! Didn't you learn not to be a sleepyhead on this magic journey of yours?! Heh. It's good to have our old life back. Mmm... Just a few more minutes...
