Episode 1

Searching for the Frozen City

All right. I think that's everything we need for today's shopping. Shall we head back to the Halidom? Uh, guys? Don't wanna alarm nobody, but there's someone runnin' pell-mell right at us. HEYTHEREDOYOUGUYSKNOWANYTHING ABOUTTHEFROZENCITY?! Er, sorry. Can you maybe slow down and try that again? Right! Of course. Sorry about that. *ahem* Good sir! Might you know anything about the legendary frozen city? The frozen city is a faerie tale. Sure is! And I'm looking for it. But you just agreed with me that it is a faerie tale? Yeah, I know. But I ALSO think it might actually exist somewhere in the world. Anyway, that's why I've been running all over the place asking folks if they know anything and gathering info and the like. Hmm. I would attempt to keep your hopes firmly in check on this matter. Fair enough. Oh, and sorry for getting all up in your grill like that. I don't know that I'm familiar with a story about a frozen city. It's about an adventurer who stumbles into a city where all the buildings are hewn from solid ice. Hey, I remember that one! That explorer cat eventually found an ice palace with a hot princess inside it, yeah? Crudely put, but essentially correct. Anyway, the tale ends with the adventurer returning home to find their own hometown completely frozen over. Just your typical faerie tale, really. But this city doesn't actually exist in reality, right? The world is vast, so I suppose we can't deny it for certain. Aw, c'mon. It ain't real. No WAY it's real! That guy what's lookin' for it is just a few turkey legs short of a dinner buffet. Hey there, friend! Do you know anything about the frozen city? Get away from me. Can do! Thanks for your help. ...Hey there! Excuse me! You talkin' to me, weirdo? Damn, he's still goin' at it. Any normal person woulda gotten discouraged and given up by now. That kind of perseverance is actually a rather admirable quality. If applied correctly, perhaps. ...Hmm? What's going on now? Oy, mister! Yer lookin' for the frozen city what never melts, yeah? I sure am! Do you know anything? Actually, I gots me hands on some'a the Nevermelt Ice what that frozen city is made from. WHAAAAT?! Um, I mean...do you think I might take a look at it? Ah ah aaaah! This here ice is real trig, yeah? Can't just be lettin' any old fool set his peepers on it for free. Buuut...I might be convinced to sell it to ya—seein' as how ya seems like a real stand-up fellow. As for the price, what say you and me settle on...this much? Holy wow! That's...a lot. Like, a LOT a lot. This here's the rarest of the rare, so it is! Can't let it go for a song, now can I? Hmm, I suppose that's true. All right then, you have a deal! Pleasure doin' business with ya. Enjoy yer ice! *snicker* Well, there's nothing at all suspicious about that transaction. That guy might be a dope, but I ain't gonna stand around and let him get fleeced. ...Hey, buddy! Hold up! Hmm? Oh, hello again! Couldn't help but overhear what just went down. Mind if I take a peek at that Nevermelt Ice ya just picked up? Ha! I KNEW you were interested! By all means, have a look. I'm afraid this isn't ice at all. It's glass. WHAAAAAAT?! 'Fraid so. Hang on—I'll go get yer money back from that swindler. Er, you don't have to do that. To be honest, I actually had my suspicions when I made the purchase. Then why did you do it? Well, what if it WAS real? That's hardly a logical thought process. If there's a chance, you have to try! That's adventure! You never know if you're dealing with truth or fiction—that's why you go on the adventure in the first place! Besides, even if you fail, there's no harm done to anyone, yeah? You are a very strange man. Bwa ha ha! I love this guy! He knows just what to say to fire me up! Then you understand what I'm getting at? Oh, this is just GREAT! Look, I'd love to help ya out here, but I just ain't sure about this whole ＂frozen city＂ business. We've been to a lot of different places, but I haven't heard a word about a city made from ice in any of them. You've been to a lot of different places? Who the heck ARE you guys? ...Anyway, that's about the long and short of it. You...guys...are...AMAAAZING! Can I come with you? Pleeeease?! Heh. Normally we have to dance around a little more before we recruit folks. You've touched me deep in my adventure- loving heart. Please let me help you out however I can! Also, if I'm with you, I'll be able to have experiences in all SORTS of places! Well, Euden? I'm always open to new companions. Plus, I like his sunny outlook on things! Thank you! I'm Pietro the adventurer, and I can't wait to see where our journeys together will take us!

Episode 2

Ready for Departure!

I'll need this. Oh, and these, too. And thiiiis...? No, don't think I'll need that. Pietro? What are you up to? Hey there, Euden. Just preparing to go to the frozen city. I just finished assembling the gear I'll need once I get there. I have warm clothing, a tent, rations... Oh, and THESE! Er, are those planks? They're skis! A place called the frozen city will definitely have some great powder, so I'm gonna need these puppies. I was actually just about to take 'em for a little trial run. Wanna come along? I'm not terribly familiar with skiing, but don't you need snow in order to do it? We're a long way from the mountains. Don't you worry yourself about that. Where there's a hill, there's a way! I spotted some nice grassland nearby when I was wandering around earlier. Well then, I suppose I'd better take advantage of the chance while I have it. C'mon, let's do this! Here I goooo! Wooo! Oh yeah, that's the stuff. That was amazing! Ha ha! Oh man, I'm gonna be golden once I reach the frozen city. EEEEEK! What was that?! Heeeelp! Somebody save meee! GRAAARGH! That woman is being attacked by a fiend! We have to help her! Pietro and his skis are on the case! Brace yourself for this one, fiend! It's the PIETRO SUPERSONIC SKI ASSAULT! Aaaand...YOU'RE DONE! Graaargh... Ha! How ya like them apples?! Are you all right? Y-yes, thank you. Sure glad we made it in time—thanks to my skis, of course. Yeah, I suppose we would have been too late without... Um, Pietro? Your ski is... Hmm? What about it? ...OH, POOP! It's broken clean in half! Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault. ...... I understand that you're disappointed, Pietro, but keep your head up. Disappointed? Not in the slightest! On the contrary, this a great experience. It is? If my skis got busted up in the middle of an adventure, I'd be in a tough pickle. But now I know exactly how much stress they can take before snapping! And THAT means I'll be able to avoid this little problem in the future, right? I mean, sure, it's a LITTLE disappointing, but that's what prep work is all about. And it's all thanks to you, little lady! Much appreciated. Er, n-not at all. I'm grateful to you. Heh. It seems optimism is really one of your strengths, Pietro. You know it, Princey!

Episode 3

Tall Tales

All right! Today, I'm gonna tell you kids the story of my journey to the Shifting Isle! Ooooooo! Looks like the little ones are all gathered together. Did somethin' happen? Pietro is just telling them a story. Pietro? Y'mean the feller what's always goin' on about that ＂frozen city＂ nonsense? One and the same. Today he's telling them a story about the ＂Shifting Isle.＂ Honestly, they seem rather delighted about it. Hmph! I reckon it'll be trouble if those young'uns start believin' a buncha horse plop like that. Come now. I'm sure the children are enjoying themselves BECAUSE they know his tales are impossible. ...... ...And at that moment, the island rumbled, shook, and began to move! Because what we had believed to be an island was in fact...a giant TURTLE! No waaay! There's no such thing as giant turtles! And yet there it was, big as can be! So what happened to the turtle after that? He disappeared into the depths of the sea. And had I not jumped on board the ship, I'd also have been swallowed up by the deep, dark waves! Wooooow! Well, that's all for today, kids. Noooo! Tell us another ooooone! Ha ha! Another time, perhaps. Hello, Pietro. Oh, hey, Euden. What's up? Well, it seems that people around here think you might be stretching the truth a bit when it comes to your stories. Aw, is that all? Heh, can't really blame 'em for not believing the sorta stories I've been tellin'. Er, but aren't all of your stories true? Of course! Every single one is a true story based on something I experienced. And it doesn't upset you that no one actually believes you? Not really. It's all just— Pietro! THERE you are! Oh wow! How's it going?! I take it you two know each other? Sure do. I owe my life to Pietro here! Aw, it's nothing so special as all that. Ha! If he hadn't been around, I'd be resting in a watery grave, make no mistake. Still can't believe that island was actually a turtle... Huh? Wait, so that story he was just telling the kids was— Yep! It's as true as the day is long. Man, those were some crazy times. So it really was true! That's what I said. What, you didn't believe me? It's not about me; it's about the others. If you have this man tell them what he said just now, I bet they'll change their minds about you! Oh, you don't need to do that. But this is your chance to prove that you're more than just some wild tale-spinner. Honestly? I don't really care what those folks think of me. Besides, having my pal here come in would ruin the story for all those little kids. I don't see how. Well, if they know for sure if a certain tale is true or not, then... Yes? Then none of them will ever venture out to see if it's true for themselves! Wait, THAT'S your reason?! Of course! Hearts burning with desire to know the truth or falsity of a tale is what sets people off on adventure! That's fun, if you ask me—and I want the kids to know what it feels like. So that's why I don't care if the adults think I'm a liar or not. ...Oops! Sorry, but I gotta go. I think I hear company coming. Pietroooo! Tell us another stooory!

Episode 4

A Reason to Live

Brrr, this wind is chilly! Wait, is that the sound of water? Hoo! Cold! Cold, cold, cooooold! Brrrr... Right then. Okay. AGAIN! Pietro, are you pouring WATER on yourself?! It's freezing out here! Heya, Euden! Don't mind me—I'm just prepping for my journey to the frozen city. Brrr, COOOOOOLD! I mean, a frozen city is going to be mighty chilly, right? So I need to be sure my body can handle those kinds of temperatures. HAAAAAARRRRGH! COOOOLD! ...So yeah, as cold as this is right now, the frozen city will be even worse. ...Um, Pietro? If you keep putting your body through that kind of strain, isn't your health going to suffer? Huh. I never really thought about it like that, but I suppose you're right. Maybe I'll call it quits for the day. Hoooo boy, that was COLD! ...... What's the deal? You're glowering, and that's never good. You think I'm an idiot, don't you? Ha ha ha! Well, I suppose there isn't much I can do about that, now is there? Actually, I was thinking how impressive it is that you're able to devote yourself to a goal so completely. Still, if you don't mind my asking, why the frozen city? Surely there are dozens of myths that could have seized your imagination, so why that one? It's because I got my life from that place. I don't follow. You might not believe this, but I was an incredibly frail and sickly child. I spent more days in my bed than out. So my mom used to stay by my side and spin yarns about fantastic places and adventures and other tales of yore. And that's when you first heard about the frozen city? Bingo. It was my favorite story she knew. And I always thought to myself that when I got better someday, I'd go find it. That goal gave me the strength to battle through my various illnesses. Without that drive, I never would have escaped the prison of my own bed. So that's how it gave you life... Heh. I feel like I understand now how you never let anything get you down. And also how you're able stay positive even when others are mocking you. I mean, sure, most folks think the frozen city is a faerie tale, and that it's sheer madness to even consider looking for it... But if I'd let myself think that, I'd still be lying in a bed—or worse, in the dirt! In that case, I hope you find it someday. Oh, I'm going to find it. Trust me. But I've got bigger plans than that. Oh? And what are those? Someday I'm going to discover a new kingdom that no one has ever seen or heard of before. Then I'll travel the world spreading the story to every sick and bedridden child I can find so they can take strength from it just like I did. What an absolutely wonderful dream. If there's any way for me to help, please just say the word. In that case, you'd better start preparing. We'll begin with a dawn swim in an icy lake! Wait, whaaaat?!

Episode 5

Renewed Passion

*sigh* Hey, Pietro. What's with the sighing? Is everything all right? Oh. Euden. Sorry, but let's talk later. Well, that was very un-Pietro. He seems considerably depressed. That's hard to believe, considering how upbeat he always is. Do you know if something happened, Cleo? All I know is that he was reading this book he found in our library. ＂Troy to the World! Memoirs of my Times as the World's Greatest Adventurer.＂ Sounds riveting. Troy is a legendary adventurer of yore. His stories were absurd to the extreme, and he was known far and wide as a supreme spinner of tall tales. However, he was also greatly beloved, and his works were left behind to future generations in the form of faerie tales. His adventures were also the basis for stories of the frozen city. Huh. But you'd think that would make Pietro happy. So why is he depressed? I gave the book a quick read of my own. At one point, Troy writes the following: ＂The legend of the frozen city is greatly exaggerated. False, even.＂ Ah, NOW it makes sense. Poor guy. I wish I could cheer him up. That may be difficult for a while. Um, excuse me? Hmm? Oh, aren't you the girl we ran into when Pietro and I were testing his skis? Yes. You really helped me out that day. Actually, that's why I'm here. I heard Pietro was feeling very down about something. I wanted to thank him for what he did, so I made him some warm clothes. Do you know where I can find him? Actually, I'm not entirely— Heeeey! Mister! Where's Pietro?! Aren't you the kids Pietro was telling his stories to? Uh-huh! But we wanted to tell him about OUR adventures this time! Your...adventures? Yeeeah! We had an awesome adventure on the hill behind the village, and we're gonna tell Pietro all about it! It's gonna totally cheer him up. Wait, so you all know about— 'Scuse me, but I heard Pietro's stayin' in this here castle. That right? Hey! You're the lady who tricked Pietro! You TRICKED him?! You're a bad lady! Go away, bad lady! Go away! Go away! Oy, it ain't like that no more! Changed my ways so I did, and been livin' on the straight'n narrow ever since. Pietro's passion sorta moved me, like, and I wanna help him out now that he's low. Thought maybe I could give 'im this! The heck is THAT?! Just a big sack full'a glass and crystal shards. Been collectin' em for a while now, yeah? It's the same stuff what I used to trick 'im earlier, but I thought there might be some real Nevermelt Ice mixed in there. I see. And you're thinking if he could find the real thing— Then it might cheer 'im up! Cor, but you're a clever one, ain't ya? Well, I'm sorry to tell you this, but Pietro's shut himself up in his room. That so? Well then, we'll just have to find some real Nevermelt Ice in this woman's giant sack of junk! Yaaaaay! Treasure hunt! But how will we know if we find it? All this stuff looks the same... We'll just have to search with our bare hands then, won't we? If we find something that stays cold no matter how long we hold it... It's Nevermelt Ice! ...Nope. This one's a dud. This one too. Grrr, this is dumb! It's okay! We still have lots of them left to check. ...Hello, everyone. Pietro! You can stop this now. I know the frozen city doesn't actually exist. Which means it's utterly pointless to search for Nevermelt Ice. How can you say that, Pietro?! Now I'm just gutted, I am... *sniff* Fine, then! We'll just go and find the frozen city ourselves! You'll do what?! I believe it's real, even if you don't— and I'm gonna find it! Me too! I'm gonna help! I also believe in the frozen city! Same here! Even if there ain't no Nevermelt Ice in this here sack, I know I'll find some one day! I... I don't know what to say. Well, Pietro? What will you do? Have faith in all of the people here, or stop believing just because one guy named Troy says it's not true? I... Look, this Troy fellow may have been lying about visiting the frozen city. But that doesn't mean that it's ACTUALLY a myth. Hey, wait... You're right! You're COMPLETELY right! And heck, if I can find the frozen city, I'll have done something that even TROY wasn't able to do! I've never been so excited in all my life! THIS is true adventure! Yay, Pietro! Blimey, but that's a fine attitude, so it is! Thank you all for believing in me. I'm gonna find the frozen city for sure. My true adventure starts right now! I'm so glad you're back to your old self, Pietro. Er, but hold on one second... I've been holding this crystal for a while now, and it hasn't...warmed...up...at all. Wait... No, it couldn't be...
