Summary

Peng Lai, too, is concerned about the problem at the dragon-vein spring. In order to ascertain the whereabouts of the one responsible, he pours his own mana into the earth, which the party then follows to the culprit.

Dialogue

Is this really the dragon-vein spring? It sure doesn't look like much. There is supposed to be a beautiful spring here. I am certain of it! I suppose if it has dried up completely, this is what we would see. The atmosphere here is really tense— my goose bumps are getting goose bumps! And yet, there's this super calm flow of chi running under the surface... That chi is Peng Lai's. He should be nearby. Everyone, look over there! Is THAT the dragon?! Indeed it is. Ooo hoo! That's some fine work, Ku Hai! Looks like you sussed out all them fighters I was after! I reckon you'll be wantin' a treat for all that hard work. Now where'd I go and put that there lollipop...? Mock me not! I am no child. Ooh hoo hoo! Everyone from Peng Lai is my child, no matter how old they get. I was curious what sort of majestic presence awaited when I heard we were dealing with a dragon of legend, but... He's like some jovial old man! Right then! Guess I should go get the good crockery for m'honored guests. Lemme just... Muh?! You there! With the fancy hair! You bear the blood of dragons, so you do! You know about that? Ooh hoo hoo! When you're old like me, you'll find your head filled with all kinds of facts—most of 'em useless as mud. It's a lucky thing to see a whippersnapper like you come strollin' through m'door. Lucky? Wait, so does that mean you DIDN'T summon me here in a dream? Hmm? I'm afraid I don't know anything about a dream. It has been a long time, Peng Lai. Well, if it ain't Su Fang! I sure am lookin' forward to your pyroblossoms this year. I am...honored. However, with the dragon-vein spring in its current state... Yeah, she's a real mess. Still, it ain't the first time she's looked like this. A hundred years ago, before the town of Peng Lai was founded, this place looked just like this. Turned out it was 'cause of some fiend what was drinkin' up all the mana. Me and Xu Fu went and sealed the fiend away and restored the spring, which allowed us to create the town all you folks enjoy so much now. You sealed it, but didn't defeat it? Yeah, he was a tough ol' nut to crack! We ended up havin' to just seal him away when we couldn't defeat him for good. Could our current disaster also be linked to this fiend's influence? I do wonder about his state, but if he were really back, we'd be seein' a heap'a trouble bigger than just one dried-out old spring. Then what IS causing this?! Easy there! Let an old dragon think a spell! Now, by my reckonin', there's some foul critter what's disturbin' the flow of mana. So if we follow the flow from this place, we oughta be able to track down whatever the problem is. I'm not certain the current amount of mana is sufficient for us to be ABLE to follow it. Then we just gotta give 'er a boost! I don't follow. HNNNNNNNNNGH! MAXIMUUUUUM POOOOWER! There's mana flowing from his body! Pretty slick trick, eh? Now if y'all just go ahead and follow that there mana, it'll lead right to the source of all this durn mischief. Peng Lai's mana is flowing that way! Go on now, young'uns! Get this thing done! Yes, sir! Come on, everyone!
