The World's Tastiest Dish
One day, Nimis tried to figure out
the tastiest thing in the whole world.
Could any food top the pancakes
he always ate? He needed to know!
So, leaving a note behind, he set off.
"I go search for treats.
No need to come looking.
- Nimis."
First, he stumbled on a big, fancy
restaurant. The sign said L'Amandier,
and he recognized the chef's face.
It was time to hurry in!
All manner of hors d'oeuvres!
Piles of perfectly cooked steak!
And all the other fine courses
one would expect besides!
He immediately wolfed it down.
...Blech! Gross! Nimis no like!
No need for seconds here!
Er, right. Clearly it was time to
head for greener pastures.
Next, he went to a town with the
aroma of spices filling the air.
The chefs cooked a world of exotic
curries for him, but they couldn't
beat his favorite fluffy pancakes.
He sampled many dishes from across
the world—from the dried-meat soup
of a snowy nation to the juiciest pork
buns in Taiwu—and many a fine meal
did he have.
But nowhere on the continent did
he find a dish as good as his
pancakes—which meant it was
time to travel across the seas!
After being bounced up and down
on the waves, he landed in the
island nation of Hinomoto.
There, he found a nice little
restaurant called Nanakusa.
"Would sir like some tempura?"
"Chawanmushi?"
"Suimono?"
"Perhaps a rice ball?"
...And his verdict?
SO TASTY! NIMIS LOVE!
He ate everything on the menu.
Then he ate the menu.
It was just that good.
If anywhere was going to have a
dish that beat those pancakes,
it might be here! Filled with hope,
Nimis awaited the restaurant's
final signature dish...
The glutton Nimis was traveling the
world in search of its tastiest meal.
His journey took him across the sea
to the famous Nanakusa restaurant,
where he awaited a final dish...
...But it was sold out.
Nimis could barely contain his
shock, and left the restaurant
deeply disappointed.
He'd come so far and eaten so
much, but still he couldn't find
anything that compared to his
favorite fluffy pancakes.
Disappointed, he returned
home, only for a familiar
voice to call out to him:
"Hey, Nimis. You hungry?"
The silver-haired chef's food was
always good, so he couldn't say no.
But as he ate, he found it still wasn't
as tasty as his favorite pancakes.
What was going on? Had he lost
the ability to appreciate good
food somehow? The thought
made him start to cry bitter,
salty tears.
"Ingredients and method aren't all
that determines how good food is,"
said the chef kindly. "Sometimes a
memory matters even more."
...A memory?
He always had his pancakes back
at the castle, where he enjoyed them
with all his friends. The taste and the
company satisfied both his heart
and his stomach.
"Go," said the chef. "Go now and
find your favorite food."
Nimis didn't need telling twice!
He ran as fast as his legs would
carry him, because now he knew
just what his tastiest food in the
world was.
"Oh! Welcome back, Nimis.
We've been worried about you.
What would you like to eat?"
"FLUFFY PANCAAAAAKES!"
