Summary

The party attempts to build a gate to save the world from destruction, but needs Alfonse's power to complete it. Having discovered the fortress where he's being held, the party launches an operation to rescue him.

...... I'm sorry, Sharena. We were so close to getting your brother, but... It wasn't your fault. Even our combined strength wasn't enough to save him. Perhaps I am the one who should apologize. My intervention seems to have warped history in no small way. It appears I was wrong to challenge you as I did, Prince Euden. No, Prince Chrom. Were I in your position, I'd likely have done the same thing. And you were right to be concerned. After all, we just saw the Empress use the power of the Other to seal the rifts. Now I understand why the other world's version of me would seek to harness it. I respect your forthrightness about that despite knowing my concerns. I see little point in hiding it. But I will make good use of your warning. You said my choices here might bring about the end of the world, and that's something I intend to take to heart. Don't worry, pal. We'll make sure the situation never even gets to that point. You ain't gotta lift a finger! Heh. Perhaps I should put more faith in the strength of the bonds you share. But remember this: If you were to sacrifice yourself, that action could end up causing great harm to others. I appreciate the advice. Well, I suppose that's that. Oh, except for that one little issue... I haven't forgotten that the Other is still holding Alfonse, Sharena. It's only a matter of time before she tries to use his power, so we have until that moment to come up with some sort of countermeasure. Actually, Princess Zethia has given me a plan that may help resolve the situation. Zethia has a plan?! Yes. Her idea was to build a gate. Is that even possible?! It would require a different sort of gate than the kind that exists on your world, Princess Sharena. But yes, she thought so. I imagine the idea is that if the lack of a gate has made our world unstable, building one would stabilize it? It makes sense in theory, but how does one BUILD a gate? I believe it to be possible. Three hundred years ago, in fact, the Dyrenell Empire attempted essentially the same thing. The materials remain within the Halidom. Perhaps we can finish the gate they were trying to create three centuries ago. Well, THIS is exciting! Let's do it! And so, we set to work on saving the world
from impending destruction.
Teams were formed to research the construction
of the gate, track where Alfonse had been
taken, and deal with the opened rifts.
With no shortage of tasks to occupy us,
the days flew by in an instant...
*siiiiiigh* You seem exhausted, Cleo. Maybe it's a good idea to rest for a bit? Out of the question when another mass opening of rifts could occur at any time. And how exactly would we stop it if you've collapsed from exhaustion? I know you're making good progress, so there's no need to push it. Yes, I feel the end is in sight, but... Well, without insight from someone who knows more about the gate than I do, I don't see how we'll ever get there. Sharena has seen plenty of gates, hasn't she? Well, I may have experience USING gates, but BUILDING them is a whole other thing. My brother would know more, but... You're probably right—I was always impressed by how smart he was. I feel like we're talking in circles here. Would it be better if Alfonse was here? Of course. But he's NOT. On the matter of Prince Alfonse's whereabouts, I may have an idea. It's a slim hope to be sure, but... You have a hunch? I don't know if I'd call it that, exactly... I'm trying to recall what I heard about the place Prince Euden was being held on the world I first visited. Apparently he was being forced to watch the world's end from that particular spot. I believe it was a Dyrenell Empire fortress that was also a research facility? That could be worth investigating. Let's check it out! Duuuude, we found the fortress Chrom was talking about! Alas, it's crawling with soldiers, and there is a rather foreboding vibe to the place. It's in an area that hasn't seen any conflict in quite some time, which makes it odd to see its guards at such high alert. That means there must be something important there! It sounds like there's a real chance Prince Alfonse is being held there. Er, but we can't very well just walk up to the front door and knock. So long as they're holding Prince Alfonse hostage, the options are rather limited. Discretion must be our watchword. I'll go! You, Tiki?! Why?! Well, if I just turn into a dragon and go "raawwwrr!" all those soldiers will come chasing after me, right? Decoys are a tried and true method, but we cannot permit you to endanger yourself in such a way. Guys, I'm a dragon. A DIVINE dragon. I'll be fiiiine! It's certainly a better idea than us just standing around wringing our little hands. But if you're worried about Tiki, I'll go too. I'm confident they won't be able to handle TWO rampaging dragons! All right—but I need both of you to promise that you won't expose yourselves to any unnecessary danger. Of course! Dragons! Dragons on the attack! Protect the fort at all cost! Don't let them get near it! Now's our chance. Let's go! Hurry, we need to find Prince Alfonse while they're busy chasing dragons! Alfonse! Where are... Huh?! We've been infiltrated! To arms! There are still soldiers in the fortress. We have to be careful. If we don't find Prince Alfonse soon, this will all be for nothing! Alfonse! Ah, hell. This ain't good, boss. I think they've been expectin' us. Look out at the northern plain! The imperial army... Damn! This whole thing is an ambush! Yeah, sure looks like it—but that means they've fallen into OUR ambush, too! ...Quick! Alert the folks what are waitin' back in the woods! It's gonna be a real grind, but we gotta take this fortress and protect it at the same time! Right! Keep the soldiers outside away from the fort while we claim it from within. We can do this! Let's go!
