- In Roman mythology, Mercury is the god of commerce, messages, travelers, luck, and thieves, among other things. He also guides souls to the underworld, earning him the title of the "keeper of boundaries" for connecting the worlds of the living and dead.
- The Dragalia Lost interpretation doesn't have many ties to the mythological Mercury, but the connection of two worlds may be referenced in Mercury's ties to the sea and land.
- Mercury matches the Roman god naming scheme set by other dragons such as Jupiter and Mars.
