- Marishiten is the romanized name for Mārīcī (lit. "Ray of Light"), a Buddhist deity. Samurai would invoke her at daybreak in hopes of gaining invisibility to their enemies and attaining victory. The warlord Tokugawa Ieyasu also made a vow to protect a school of swordsmanship that worshiped Mārīcī, in exchange for learning their techniques. Mārīcī is also often depicted as riding a boar.
