Dragon Story Episodes
Invisible Kindness
Dragons dwell in this land alongside
humans. While they may influence
the course of history, they rarely
involve themselves in the affairs
of man.
Dragon law dictates they cannot
meddle in the human world without
good cause—though they are able
to lend assistance so long as no
one takes notice.
Deep in the mountains and far from
the battlefield lay a wounded soldier.
His eyes had been blinded by a blast
of magic, and his leg crippled by a
wayward arrow.
Any allies who might have helped
him had long since fled,
vanishing before he even knew
what was happening.
Unable to move, he lay in the shade
of an abandoned house and prayed
the enemy wouldn't find him.
"Are you all right?" came a voice
beside his ear.
Blinded as he was, the soldier
couldn't see the speaker—but he
judged her to be a young girl.
When he tried to respond, however,
all that emerged was a low groan.
With kind words of encouragement,
the girl fed him fruit and gave him
water. They passed the day like that,
and the next, and then many more.
The young girl's kindness and
devotion helped the blind and
wounded soldier regain strength.
The soldier thought it strange that
there would be a child in such a
place, but the mystery of it soon
ceased to bother him.
The girl's voice was a light of hope to
a man otherwise alone in darkness.
Yet all he had was her voice;
she never once touched him.
One day, help finally arrived.
His unit's leader returned for him,
accompanied by a doctor.
The doctor's healing magic restored
the soldier's sight. But when he
looked for the girl who had saved
him, he couldn't find her anywhere.
"Perhaps it was a dragon," said the
doctor when the soldier mentioned it.
For he knew of a local legend about
a young dragon who helped humans
while remaining unseen.
Whenever some small good deed
was done—a barn cleaned or a lost
item returned—the people of the
land knew it was the dragon.
But this time, her act of kindness
saved an unnamed soldier's life.
