The Vampire Paladyn

Hey, Elisanne. That was some impressive work in today's battle. It is all thanks to these clothes. No fiend has escaped me since I donned them. Yeah, fiends are usually pretty perceptive, now that you mention it. The minute you try to attack, they turn tail and run. But assuming the guise of a vampire has them completely fooled! Now I'm able to approach without them suspecting my ill intentions. Yeah, it's a brilliant idea. Just... Y-yes? What is it? And why are you staring at me like that? It's just... Well, I'm surprised you agreed to put on that getup in the first place. I don't see what choice I have, given its clear combat advantages! And I'm only still wearing it in case of a surprise attack. CERTAINLY not because it's so cute that I can't bear the idea of removing it. Hey, whatever you say. Though speaking of combat advantages... I've just come up with something brilliant! Not another of your silly pranks, I pray? Nope! This is one hundred percent legit. It's a clever bit of strategy. Should make hunting fiends go a lot smoother, actually. If just looking like a fiend is this effective, imagine how easy it would be if you ACTED like one! Once you're a fiend inside and out, you'll have them completely fooled! Hmm... There is a certain logic there. Then I must become a vampire and immerse myself in the role. I'll begin practicing at once, and then— Wait! No! This is not happening! Huh? Why not? Beyond just sucking blood, vampires are known to place others under a glamour. To...s-seduce them. I can't do that! I won't! Well sure, not without practice. But once you master it, just imagine how much easier combat will be! But... Hrmmm. Unless you really ARE just playing dress- up in a cute outfit for the fun of it? Fine! If you wish me to do it, I shall do it! Perfect. Then let's get started. I'll show you a couple moves sure to steal any guy's heart. Watch close... Y-you expect me to do THAT?! Have you no decency, sir?! Ah, perfect. Hey, Euden! Over here! Hey, guys. What are you up to? H-hey, wait a... Luca, you can't mean to— As it happens, Elisanne here has been practicing a new way to knock out fiends, and she wanted to show you her progress. Your dedication to training is always an inspiration, Elly. I'd love to see what you've come up with. Y-yes, but this isn't really... I mean, I can't very well just... Go on, Elisanne. And you're certain a fiend slipped into the castle courtyard last night, Cleo? Absolutely. I awoke this morning to find the Sweet Retreat nibbled to bits. Hmm. It's curious that no one noticed. The culprit is clearly quite clever. We'll need someone in disguise to keep watch. Might I ask your help in this, Elisanne? Of course. I promise to see your candy thief brought to swift justice. Ah ha! Shown yourself already, have you, fiend?! Elly, wait! It's only me! Ah! I beg your pardon, Your Highness... But may I ask what brings you here at this late hour? I heard you were keeping watch all by yourself, and thought I'd drop by to see how things were going. Worry not, Highness. This is my station, and I have things well in hand. But I do thank you for your kind concern. You always— Hmm? What was that noise? Leaves in the wind, maybe? ...No. It moves at a steady pace. And it makes for the Sweet Retreat. This may be our fiend. Let's follow it. Shall we split up? A pincer attack will ensure it has nowhere to run. Yes, but that also doubles our chance of being heard. We should stick together. Understood. ...Er, Euden? Might you give me a bit more space, please? Oh, sorry! I figured we'd be less likely to tip off the fiend if we were close. Walking side by side would make us twice as easy to spot. Er...that may be so, but I also don't think walking one atop the other is a good idea. I can't take this! Elisanne? What's wrong? If you rush in, you'll just— I-it's a preemptive strike! We'll just slay the creature before it sees us coming! KRAAAAAAAAA! What the heck, Elisanne?! Wha—RANZAL?! ...Er, why are you holding a hunk of cookie-dough spackle? You're the candy thief! *sigh* Of course you are. Now hold on a sec! There's a reasonable explanation to all'a this! The thought'a fiends sneakin' into the Halidom had me walkin' the floors at night, yeah? So I decided to go on watch duty—and ya know how stakeouts make a guy hungry. Then my patrol just HAPPENS to take me past a house made'a treats? C'mon! How am I NOT supposed to eat it?! That is EXACTLY what you were supposed to do. You're no better than an animal. No, a fiend! ...Yeaaaah. Sorry 'bout that. I'll have you know your antics put me in an extremely uncomfortable position! Wait...what? I, er... N-never you mind! But YOU, Ranzal—you should very MUCH mind! I want you to think long and hard about what you've done. Understood?!

The Prince and the Pumpkins

Look at the size of this pumpkin! Pretty impressive, if I do say so myself. Why are you covered in dirt like a common peasant, Your Highness? Oh, I'm picking pumpkins. Well, yes. I can see that much. I was more asking why His Royal Highness is mucking about in dirt in the first place. I'm helping to prepare for the party. Apparently we're still short on decorations, so I went pumpkin hunting. That's useful context, yet still fails to explain why you—our leader, and royalty to boot—are performing manual labor. You are lord of this castle. Leave tasks of that nature to those of us who serve you. Well, I suppose that's the way it would normally work. I am glad we're in agreement. But that's not how I want to do things. I'm helping out because I WANT to. I'm excited to be a part of everything. *sigh* I should have expected as much. Then at least allow me to help you. I trust you have no problem with that? That would be great. Thanks, Elly. ...All right. I think that should be enough. Thanks, Elly. That went much faster with two of us. Heh. I'm actually a bit tired out. These things are heavy! I just remembered that we're out of bread for dinner. If we return to the Halidom and then go shopping, it will delay the evening meal. In that case, we'll send a few people. This was a hard-won battle, though. The only uninjured ones are me and... Me. Yes, wonderful. However you want to do it. Just please get the bread. Oh, and I apologize for allowing our stores to fall so low. By way of said apology, feel free to pick up a treat for yourselves. ...Within budget, of course. Halloween Night's Dream

What?! You want to go BACK into town? We got cut short last time, remember? You didn't get the chance to buy those earrings you liked. I thought it would be nice to go back and fix that. Yes, I suppose we WERE cut short. Had you really forgotten? No no, I remember. Quite vividly, in fact. I also recall you said you were eager to join in the Halloween festivities. And today just happens to be the day. Ha ha! Okay, you caught me. I think I mentioned it to you before, but... Well, I've never had the opportunity to experience a town festival before. Which is why we decided to hold our own celebration here at the Halidom. And I'm thankful for that. But there's a bit more to it. Just once, I'd love to be able to forget my station as a royal and enjoy myself like a normal person. I'm excited for our party here—really. But...you all still treat me like a prince. Ah. You are lord of this castle. Leave tasks of that nature to those of us who serve you. But if we sneak into the town celebration... I understand perfectly. Allow me to make this wish come true, then. Not as a knight and her lord—but as a couple of friends. ...Goodness, the town really IS full of people in costume. Were you worried Luca was playing another of his pranks? A bit. It's a relief. Well, good! Now let's take in the sights! The festival was a roaring success. Many people attended in costume, and had a delightful time. The town was awash in wide smiles. Euden and Elisanne also found themselves grinning ear-to-ear as their enjoyable day passed by in the blink of an eye. Phew! I think we've done a full lap. We handed out candy, ate MORE candy, bought a nice souvenir... What a wonderful festival. A day of peace and joy amid trying times. I'm almost loath to return to the castle. Once we're back at the Halidom, it's back to a knight and her lord again. Elisanne...? Oh! Apologies. It was a silly thought. I shouldn't have— Please don't apologize. I was thinking the same thing. Your Highness... *sigh* We should be getting back. I'm sure the others are waiting. We can't very well begin our Halloween party without the guest of honor. ...No, I suppose not.
