Episode 1

Perfect Butler

( Outside the Castle ) Pardon me, but might I find Master Euden in this castle? Oh, yes, that's me. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Edward. Would you have any interest in employing me as your butler? Well, I don't know that we really need a butler right n- A butler? Saaaay! So what's a guy like you do, anyway? Buttle? Would we be free to call upon you as well if Euden wished it? Gaah! When did you two get here? I will lend my services to any and all whom my master wishes, should I come under his employ. Yer serious?! Euden, ya gotta hire this guy! He could really help me out with my chores! Repairin' the castle, takin' care of my weapons- everything! And I could use someone to help me with cooking and keeping our supplies stocked. Well, there you have it. What say you, Master Euden? Hmmm... All right. If that's what they want, then you're hired. Splendid. Now then, let us get right to your scheduled tasks for the day. Hmm... It seems you've only completed about half of them. You shal have to finish training and patrolling the area before lunch. I was actually thinking of eating first, since I'm already pretty hungr- Unacceptable. Any task scheduled for the morning must be completed by noon. After all, that is when you are due to battle some fiends. Wait, but that hardly leaves me any time to eat- Such are the consequences when you dally in the morning. Rest assured, you shall have plenty of time for lunch tomorrow. But... It was you who wished to hire me as your butler, was it not? I... As such, while I tend to your daily needs, I shall determine if you are truly worthy of being my master. Worry not; I shall manage every facet of your life from here on. You shall be an exemplary master in no time. Assuming you don't break before that happens, of course. Uh... C-Cleo? Ranzal? ...Ya know what? I should probably just handle things m'self. So, uh, I'm gonna go make some repairs to the castle! Nor do I require any assistance. More like a Drill Sergeant

( In the Bedroom ) Good morning, master. Please get dressed at once. You have slept for longer than scheduled. Huh? But I woke up way earlier than usual today... Making excuses only wastes more time. Fine, fine. I'll get changed. May I come in, Euden? Wait, Elisanne? What is she doing here?! She has come for a meeting regarding today's campaign. I took the liberty of scheduling it yesterday. I can't have a meeting while I'm in the middle of changing! Had you started your day as scheduled, you would be changed and sipping tea at this very moment. Ah, c'mon. Having someone to manage every aspect of yer life is probably great for yer health- Master Ranzal! Please refrain from any side chatter. It slows your pace, which will adversely affect the reast of today's schedule. Hey now, don't go worryin' about me. You're Euden's butler, not mine. A master is only as strong as his weakest subject, I fear. Now then, Master Ranzal, you really ought to straighten your own posture as well. Chin up, eyes forward, and pace steady. Ugh... Is he always like this, Euden? You were right. It ain't funny at all.

A Butler's Duty

( In the Forest ) Hyaaaahh! *pant* *pant* I didn't expect so many fiends... This is most vexing... The schedule calls for you to defeat one fiend every three minutes, but you are taking far longer. At this rate, your remaining commitments will be affected. Please make haste, master. I'm going as fast as I can! Edward! We can't be worryin' about schedules in the middle of battle! It is my duty to ensure my master stays on schedule! Though he is falling further and further behind... So be it. This is not becoming of a butler, but I am left with no other choice... Huh? H-hey, what're ya doin'?! Edward, no! You can't take on all those fiends by yourself! Graaaagghhhh! Too slow. What...? Careless. I shall grant you a swift end. No way... He cleared out that entire pack'a fiends by himself! I had no idea you were so strong, Edward! My profession calls for a holistic approach to service. A butler too weak to protect his master is no butler at all. Ya shoulda been out there fightin' from the start instead of fussin' about the time! It is a butler's duty to support his master as imperceptibly as possible. I wouldn't dare risk stealing glory from my master unless absolutely necessary. You're such a skilled fighter, though... When do you even find time to train on top of all your butlering? After you've retired to your quarters, of course. Then I tran as much as I'm able. You train when I'm sleeping?! And yet you still wake up before me each morning... I thought managing my schedule was taxing enough for you, but that seems foolish knowing you're doing so much extra work... I'll strive to be better, Edward. A splendid attitude. I shall increase your responsibilities accordingly. Wh-what?! I...I mean... Yes! Definitely do that! Oh? I must say, that is a better response than I'm accustomed to hearing from you, Master Euden. You may not be far off becoming a master worthy of my service.

Past Masters

( Inside the Castle at Night ) Phew... Good work today, Edward. You were in fine form yourself, Master Euden. Good night. Say, Edward? Can I ask you something? Certainly. But if I may, please keep it brief; I must prepare tomorrow's schedule. Why are you so dedicated to being a butler? Hmm... I suppose I may confide in you. My former master taught me my trade. War left me an orphan, but he gave me a home. I am the butler I am today thanks to him. What happened to him? He fell ill and passed away. Oh... I'm sorry. This must be difficult. There is no need to apologize, master. ...Yet, in truth, I have been unable to overcome the pain of his loss. It is something I wish to never experience again. Then why did you want me to hire you? A butler has no purpose without a master. Besides, I could not let the skills my late master taught me go to waste. I continue to serve him, even in death, through my dedication to butlering. I see.
