Episode 1

Personal Training

So this is the castle occupied by Euden and his comrades. I must offer them my thanks. Hmm? Wait, is that...? Hoooo! Another day, another big helping of flower nectar for me! Notte... Hmm, something seems different. You don't look like your usual threatening self. Well, I guess I have been wheezing a little when I fly lately... Oh no! Am I super out of shape?! Perhaps you'd better start exercising. Build those muscles from the ground up! Oh maaaan! Does that mean I have to do, like, push-outs or whatever they're called? I need a personal trainer if this is ever gonna work. A trainer? All the way out here? I doubt you'd— I STAND READY BEFORE YOU! You what now? Ho there, Euden! I've come to settle our debt. Uh oh. Do I owe you something? Ah, but you misunderstand. I've come to thank YOU for your aid at the volcano. On that note, Notte recently expressed interest in hiring a personal trainer. That being the case, I will take up the mantle in order to thank you for your earlier aid! Oh, really? You don't mind? As a knight's armsmaster, my job is to instruct wards in the proper forms and functions of exercise. With my specialized Armsmaster Exercise Regimen, Notte will be a rippling, winged mass of muscle before you know it! Heh heh... My teacher senses are a'tingle with anticipation. I can't wait to see those guns of yours pumping! Uh, yeah, this seems kind of terrifying. I think I'm going to pass. We will begin at once. Also, you will refer to me as Master Celliera. Whaaaaat?! Focus on that sweat running down your brow and give me a hundred laps! I want to see the veins bulging in those muscles! Wait, laps? Dude, I FLY! Quit with the belly-aching and get with the ab-making! Y-yes, Master Celliera! Right then! Meal time. Proper nutrition is vital for one in such intense training. *wheeze* *pant* Too much...running... So tired... So hungry... The most important thing when considering one's diet is not the quantity consumed, but the balance of nutrition. Now eat! ...What the heck is THIS glop? A special nutritional porridge I prepared! ...Well, technically it's more of a slurry. Regardless, EAT! *urp* Oh my gosh, this tastes like the floor of a tavern after the weekend. Don't be picky! From now on, the only things you're permitted to consume are this and water! ...Or perhaps ice chips. Wait, that's IT?! *knock knock* Anyone out there? No? ...Ah, jackpot! There's still some bread on the table from dinner! That slurry business was the most disgusting thing ever, but this bread looks mighty tast— DROP THE BREAD! ...Now put your hands behind your head and turn around! Ack! It's a trap! Nooooo! C'mon, gimme a break! Break? Do you realize the absolute nutritional wasteland that is a slice of bread?! You'd be better off eating mud! ...Well, except that mud has a high mineral content. But I digress! WHO'S eating mud now?! Do you want your muscles to grow flabby and weak?! Do you want to be carried everywhere in a cart because you lack the bone structure to walk?! Um...no? Then restrain yourself! Resist the temptation of junk food and have another helping of my nutritional slurry! I know you can do it! I believe in you! All right, I'll do it... I've got this! Guide me, Master Celliera! That's the spirit! And so, Notte's training continued. Until one day... Behold! The fruits of your training! Ta-daaaah! Well? How do I look?! Buff, right? Like, SUPER buff! You look great, Notte! But what about the guns? DON'T YOU LOVE MY GUNS?! Just look how hard she worked... *sniff* Aw, you're giving me too much credit. If I didn't have such a great teacher, I'd still be a puny weakling. That's why I just want you to know how grateful I am for your guidance. Notte! Master! Heh. Seems like it's a good thing you came here, Celliera. Hearing you say that makes me even more delighted! And it ALSO makes me want to be of even further aid to you all. As such, I'm going to keep assisting you. Euden, if you have any worries or need to talk about anything at all, come see me right away. I'll devote all my efforts to helping you solve your many, MANY problems. Not sure the "many" part was necessary... Er, but are you sure you're okay with this? Hold nothing back! A Lesson in Muscles

Ho there, Cleo! What are you up to? Eek! C-Celliera?! I didn't think I was being quite so stealthy. ...What's this, then? Are you painting? Er, I'm... Is this a picture of a group of fiends?! How horrid and frightening they look! ...It's a portrait of everyone in the castle. ...OoooOOOOooo! Yes, of cooourse! I see it now! It's soooo beautif— Stop. I'm quite aware of my lack of skill. *sigh* Let me ask you something, Celliera. You're rather...driven. Can you think of a way I might improve my talents? Actually, now that you mention it, I may have an idea. When drawing a person, being conscious of their musculature will allow you to depict them with greater accuracy. Is that so? ...Huh. I learned something. Learned something? Leeeearning... A-HA! This is where I come in! I will teach you all about muscles! You'll teach me about...muscles. Precisely. If you become more familiar with human musculature, your artwork will soar to new heights! Ah, I see. And since your profession involves training people, you're something of an expert in the subject. Well, if you're willing to teach me, I would love to learn. I'm on the case! Henceforth, please refer to me as "master!" With my own body as a model, I will teach you all there is to know about muscles! This here is the biceps brachii, which you can flex to see in greater detail. And here on the calf we have the triceps surae. You can deepen your comprehension even further by not just looking, but touching. ...Go on! See how they feel! Yes, Master! Goodness! It's like they're made of iron. And yet they're so slender. I'd always thought that lots of muscle training would cause them to become quite thick. Such slender grace is a result of my body type and training regimen. I had no idea muscles could be such a complex topic. Moving on! The teres major is below the armpit, and then you have the rectus abdominis, which runs along the anterior of the abdomen. ...Go on! Touch! Er, touch your armpit and abdomen? Come now! Get to it! But won't that tickle? It's fine. This is for your art, after all. Now come get your hands-on training! Very well, Master. And apologies for being so up close and personal... Hee... Eee hee... Eeeeee hee heee! Hmm. I think I have a better idea of which muscle is which now. Excellent! Then let us continue touching each and every other muscle. ...And with that, you've now handled every single one of my muscles. Yes, Master Celliera. Now for the next step! As I mentioned, musculature differs based on the person. By which I mean we'll be touching someone ELSE'S muscles now! Onward! Wait, Master! Looks like it's about time for me to start my training... CAPTURED! AAAAND...RESTRAINED! AUGH! C-Celliera, what are you doing?! This is for art! For CLEO'S art! Now sit there and behave! Cleo! Come touch Euden to your heart's content! Umm...I think this might be going a bit overboard. DO NOT HESITATE! Steel yourself! Do it for art! For art... Right... For art! C-Cleo? Why are you holding your hands like that...? Apologies, Euden... HERE I GOOO! Aaaaah! What the heck are... Aaaah ha! Y-you're tickling m—AAAAH HA HA HA! Did they do it to you, too, Elisanne? Yes. ...It was horrible. Same here. Cleo came at me screamin' about how it was for art or somesuch. Why would they need to go around tickling people for the sake of her art? So she might learn about human musculature and make use of it in her portraiture! ...Obviously. And thanks to your cooperation, Cleo now knows about muscles on a most intimate basis. Really? Huh. Well, I was shocked at the time, but so long as we were able to help, that's what matters most. And just a little while ago, I posed for her in order to test the results of her studies. Come, Cleo! Show off your artwork to all! I... Um... What is it? I'd like to see what kind of portrait you produced. I'm eager to see how much you've improved as well! What with my posing, I didn't even catch a glance. You hidin' it behind your back there? *yoink* Oh! This is amazing! Your portrayal of Celliera is so good, it seems like she might just walk right out of the piece! But, um... Why are her right and left legs different sizes? My head is bizarrely huge. It's three times larger than my body! Looks like a new breed of fiend if ya ask me. I can draw each part of the body now, but I didn't do a good job with the whole ...balance thing. What should I do now, Master? Now that things have come to this, let me borrow some white cloth, Cleo. Huh? White cloth? I can do that, but, er... What are you going to do with it? I'm going to wave it with all my strength! I surrender! I SURRENDER! You are completely hopeless! You're...giving up on me?!

Rules and Regulations

I'm so hungry... Found somethin', Euden! Yesss! A mushroom! Food at last! That will be delicious whether we boil or grill it. What do you think we should do? Eh, both are too much hassle. Let's just eat it before you-know-who comes along and steals it from... Gya! You-know-who is HERE! She on our right or our left?! Ha ha! I'm in the TREES! Oh no! She got our mushroom! AAAH HA HA! Such is the way of nature! The strong take from the weak, and the weak go mushroom-less! Dammit! She's gone! How long is this crap gonna go on for, anyways?! (How did it come to this...?) Several Days Ago... Out all night AGAIN, Ranzal? Why do you never learn? And you, Euden! Even if you are tempted to go out and enjoy the night life, you must learn to say no! Er, I... Aw, quit naggin' so much. Ain't nothin' wrong with some male-bondin' time. I mean, a little more freedom ain't a bad thing, ya know? You don't regret what you've done one bit! ...And you know what? I've got just the thing for that. I know somebody who will shape up this lifestyle of yours. ...MASTER! Master...? Wait, you don't mean— SHE DOES MEAN, FOR IT IS I! Cleo has recently confided in me that SOME people in the castle have been making a mockery of common decency. I've decided to draft up new rules and regulations so as to do something about the deplorable standards of conduct here. Rules?! Regulations?! Are ya kiddin' me?! Rule Number One: Wake with the sunrise! Rule Number Two: Bed immediately after dinner! And Rule Number Three: Evening curfew! Once curfew is in effect, going out is EXPRESSLY forbidden! I will be meting out swift—AND harsh— punishment to any found in violation of these new rules. Is this understood? Oh brother. What a pain... Zzz... Zzz... WAKE UP, WAKE UP, WAAAAKE UP! You have three seconds to leave your bed! ...Three! ...Two! ...One! Blargh! What are you doing in my room, Celliera?! The sun has risen, which means it's time to get up. And if you're half-asleep, I'll glue your eyes open! I'm up! I'm up! Leave my eyes alone! ...Yesss! Here's what I've got. Whoa. That's a hell of a hand, Euden. A-HEM! It is FAR past lights-out time. Now get back to your rooms, and make it snappy! Oh, and if you can't sleep, I'll sing you a little ditty I call "A Lullaby from Hell." NOW MOVE IT! All right, all right! We hear ya. *sigh* We ain't havin' fun at all ever since Celliera took over. Although we ARE living healthier lifestyles. Sure, but who wants to live a longer life in a prison like this? Not this guy! I guess it does feel a little restrictive. Right? That's why I got a plan. Now listen here... *whisper* *whisper* Ha ha! Slipped out like a pair'a pros, am I right?! There's plenty of taverns open late. We'll tear it up at one of 'em tonight! Er, but it's REALLY late, Ranzal. Are you sure this is a good idea? 'Course it is. But what AIN'T a good idea is clappin' us in irons with a buncha lame rules what restrict our basic freedoms! We're free men, so let's roll like it already! Sounds like everyone's still sleeping. We gotta hurry back to our rooms before anyone notices. I admire your guts—but that's ALL I admire of this pathetic little plan. C-Celliera! This, uh, ain't what it looks like! We were just going to the, uh, thing! For the, er... Y'know? The...thing? Your excuses are futile! You have broken the rules, and must be PUNISHED! If it is freedom you desire so badly... then freedom you shall HAVE! ...Can't believe her punishment was to force us into the woods for a buncha "self-sufficiency" trainin'. Well, we ARE free to choose when to go to bed and what to eat... I'm so hungry, my head's spinning. If only I could've eaten that mushroom... Urgghh... Get your rear in gear, Euden! Dammit! First she yammers on about "survival of the fittest," and now she's stealin' all our food! WE AIN'T GONNA TAKE IT NO MORE! Guuuh... Shoutin' made my head spin... Huurgh... Well? You've had your taste of freedom. Thoughts? General impressions? We...made a terrible mistake... W-we goofed... Just forgive us... Excelsior! You've learned quite a lesson. Now relax. I'm not some kind of demon. I understand full well that everyone has to have SOME fun now and then. So if you'll practice punctuality and moderation, I will relax the rules. ...A bit! Th-thank you... Now that THAT'S sorted, let's beat feet back to the castle, yeah? Oh, one has nothing to do with the other. A punishment is a punishment! You have three days of training to go, and it WILL continue! Muscle Reading

Hmm? That voice from behind cover... Wasn't that— Celliera, that is enough already! Now please put your hands down. Don't move, Elisanne. This will end it. I'll ease your suffering in an instant. Haaaaah! WAAAAAAAAH! What are you two doing?! Ah, Euden! Have you also come for one of my massages? It was most terrifically painful, but definitely worked wonders. Thank you, Celliera. My training fatigue has vanished. Wait, you give massages? By the way, Elisanne, your attacks have a tendency to be slightly off center from time to time, yes? How do you know that? I could tell when I was massaging you. The balance of your muscles is off between the two sides. It shouldn't impact your overall combat readiness, but a bit of intensive training might remedy the imbalance. I see. That's helpful advice. You picked up on her weak point just by touching her muscles? Muscles tell much about a person— lifestyle, mental state, and the like. For example, Elisanne has recently become mindful of overeating, and has ramped up her abdominal regimen. Wh-what?! And further, she has noted that the extra muscle mass has made her clothes fit tighter than she'd like. WHAAAT?! And she's quite embarrassed about that. Particularly when she's around you. STOOOOP! Don't say anything else! I'm still not sure I follow, but, um... I'll take your word for it. I can't believe she read me that well just from touching me. Ugh. Wait. If I could use that ability of hers, I just might be able to solve our little problem... Celliera? I need your help. Might you give me a hand? That's the man you spoke of, yes? Indeed. He's with a gang of thieves, but without sufficient evidence to pin them down, they're running free. The one who keeps lying and pretending not to know anything? Right. Which is why I want Celliera to expose his lies and shine the light of day on his misdeeds. I'd also be grateful if you could get him to divulge the whereabouts of his associates. Say no more. Then I suppose it wasn't you and your associates who broke into that aristocrat's manor some days back? And the attack on the mail wagon last month? Or the muggings out on the highway? I got no idea what you're on about. Hmm... Perhaps those weren't ALL your doing after all... You really don't seem to know anything about the mail-wagon incident... You're creepin' me out, lady! I just gave him one of my little massages!

Honing Body and Mind

Hiking, hiking, I'm oh-a-so-a liking being out a-hiking, la-de-dah-de-doo! Ahhh! Smell that fresh mountain air! ...Huh? Three thousand fifty-six! Three thousand fifty-seven! Three thousand fifty-eight! It's Celliera! She's doing jump squats... and it looks like she means business! Wait, she's got a tent. Did she come here to climb the mountain, too? She doesn't strike me as a nature buff. Maybe she's out here to train? She must be taking on some special foe if she's secluding herself in the mountains like this. Well, let's ask her and find out. Hoo-rah! Four thousand! Next, I'm going to— Hey there, Celliera! Euden? What brings you out here? Whatcha doing all that training for? Trying to overcome your eternal rival or something? Ah. You saw that, did you? I'm a bit embarrassed by this, but if you already saw me, I suppose I have no choice but honesty... I've been training out here for the sake of my pride as a knight's armsmaster. Come again? As someone who trains others, I, too, must always be diligent in my own training. This is what I mean by "pride." Thus, from time to time, I come up into the mountains far from the eyes of others in order to hone my own body and mind. That's a really great attitude, Celliera. Er, but why would you be embarrassed about that? Because doing it in front of people makes it seem as though I'm showing off. In addition... Yes? How should I put this... It's a bit undignified to see one's teacher exerting herself in such a manner. Woooow! You're more vain than I thought! *gasp* I don't think it's undignified at all. In fact, I think you should show this side to people more often. And why is that? It's great to see someone working hard. People who put a lot of effort into things are trustworthy, after all. If everyone knew how hard you work to better yourself, I'm sure they'd trust you even more. At the very least, knowing how hard you work makes me personally feel even more strongly that— Stop! Don't say anything else! ...This is embarrassing. Aaaah ha ha! Your face is bright red! Oh, and speaking of bright red, the sun's about to do its setting thing. Guess we should be getting back down the mountain. You too, Celliera. ...I suppose. I'm so thirsty, I can't sleep. Huh? That light... I'm pretty sure that's her room. Oh, hello there, Euden. Do you need something? What are you doing up so late, Celliera? Working on my records of all the people in the castle. Records? What the condition of their health is like, anything I saw while fighting with them... That sort of thing. Keeping a detailed record of such things can come in handy when helping people train and better themselves. Although, I tend to write too much, so it always keeps me up well into the night. Now that I look closely, you've got a lot of books here. Are they all on medicine and martial arts? Yes. All reference materials for when I'm thinking about intensive training. You hone your body during the day and your mind at night. You're really passionate about teaching people, huh? Helping people grow is my joy. Nothing can top the swell of pride I feel when I help someone succeed. That's why I chose my profession of knight's armsmaster. Your eyes are sparkling, Celliera. You know? I'm quite glad that I came to the Halidom. The people in this castle are the cream of a very distinguished crop, and I'm certain each one will become noteworthy. I can't help but be excited when I think I might be able to play some small role in that eventuality. You especially, Euden. You overflow with possibility. You think so? I know so.
