The Great Wide World

So me, see? I give crystals to folks I've made nice with. Always makes 'em happy when I do that, yes sir.

Among those folks, there was one fella who was super happy! He was a burg...lur, I think he said?

He's a real swell fella. Loves goin' to houses of folks he don't know real late at night, even though the folks are asleep and can't talk to him. Guhuh huh huh! What a character!

But that guy, he thinks it's a thrill to wander into the houses and take stuff without waking anybody. Yes sir, that's right.

Well sir, I didn't quite follow what he meant by a ＂thrill,＂ so I asked him. And he says to me, ＂Well, I guess it's just something fun.＂

So I says to him, ＂Well sir, if it's so fun, I want in on some of that action!＂ But then he said he wasn't gonna sneak into houses at night no more.

Said from then he was gonna sell the crystals I give him for what he calls ＂money.＂ What IS money, anyway? I asked the guy the same question but I still don't get it! Guhuh huh huh!

So I says to him, ＂Not fair, you keepin' all the fun stuff to yourself even though we're friends, so I'm done giving you crystals.＂

Well sir, THAT got his attention! He took me along to one of his house sneaks the very next night!

But when we got there, we saw a whole mess of soldiers with lances and other pointy things. That guy went white as a sheet, so he did, and here's what he says to 'em:

＂This ain't my fault, sirs! This dragon made me do it!＂

Well sir, what could I do but tell those soldiers the truth? I DID ask him to take me to the house, after all!

But those solider fellas, they weren't too pleased with my answer. So they picked me up and tossed me in what they called...er... What was it again? Oh yeah. ＂Jail!＂ Guhuh huh huh!

Guhuh huh huh huh....huuuuh?

Now let’s see, where was I again? Went with my burg-lur pal to a house, then we had them soldiers...

Oh, right! So I told that solider fella how I asked my pal to take me on one'a his house sneaks, and he went and tossed me in that... What do you call it again? Jail?

Lord have mercy, but jail is boring! Guhuh huh huh! Yes sir, I asked 'em to let me out straightaway, but they just laughed me off.

Well, right about then is when the burg-lur man came to see me—and boy howdy, but he was lookin' low.

So then he gets to tellin' me how I'm his only friend and he didn't mean for me to get in trouble and so on and so forth. Seem he was feelin' what you call ＂regret＂ about the whole deal.

You know what “regret” is, right? ...You do? Well, ain't that a kick in the head! Don't mind sayin' I still don't get it at all. Guhuh huh huh!

So anyways, when I saw how sad the guy was about it, I wanted to do somethin' for him. But I couldn't go searching for crystals inside that tiny ol' jail cell, no sir.

But when I told him I couldn't give him no crystals, he just laughed! Swear it for true! Then he says to me that I've given him somethin' far more valuable than a crystal.

I didn't really get it at the time, and if I'm honest, I still don't. All I know is that after a piece, I left that there jail and the man took my place! Yes sir, just walked right on in!

Now, friend, I couldn't understand why in the name of fudge somebody would willingly go into that boring place. But my pal wouldn't explain. Just smiled like a happy old goat.

I tell you what, there's a lot in this ol' world that I don't understand. But when I try thinkin' on it, it don't do no good because I still don't understand it! Guhuh huh huh!
