Summary

Having discovered Prince Alfonse's location, the party hurries to save him—but finds Chrom, the prince of Ylisse, standing in their way. He claims {player_name} will doom the world to a bleak future, and challenges the entire party to battle.

Dialogue

...You've figured out where Prince Alfonse is?! I sure have! I was just out slaying fiends from the rifts with Elisanne and the others. And while I was doing that, I spotted my brother on the other side of a rift! I think he was in another world—one beyond the space between worlds. You're saying an entrance to another world is open in the space BETWEEN worlds?! I suspect its opening may have been a reaction of sorts to Princess Sharena's ability to control gateways. I know I ain't the sharpest sandwich on the platter, but what'n the hell is going on again? Alfonse is off in some other world? Actually, I believe what I saw was not my brother, but instead another world's VERSION of my brother. However, that Alfonse was being held captive in a world that looked exactly like the one we are in now. I've heard of this. They say our world is one of myriad alternate worlds, each of which is but a different possibility for how things might unfold. Exactly. But it got me thinking: Maybe our Alfonse in THIS world is in the same location as the Alfonse in THAT world! And where was Alfonse being held in this other world you saw? The way Princess Sharena described it, he's likely in ruins from the Second War of Binding. I believe I should be able to identify the exact location. In that case, we should go take a look. At this point, any small lead is more than worth following up on. I believe the spot is just ahead, but... The vision I saw was near a sealed door, but I'm not seeing one here. A door... A dooooor... Hey, THAT'S a door! Okay, then let's— Stop. Huh? Who's there?! Chrom! It's you! Do you know this man, Sharena? If he's another of your acquaintances— Oh, I know him, all right! He's a good friend and great hero from another world. He's the prince of the Halidom of Ylisse, and captain of the Shepherds who guard it. He's also one of the vanished companions that I mentioned earlier. I'm so glad to see you safe, Chrom! And I am supremely relieved to see you safe as well, Princess Sharena. It's been quite the whirlwind here, Chrom! Let me tell you all about— I believe I have a solid grasp of it already. Prince Alfonse is held behind that door, and you've come to rescue him. Yes, exactly! I'm afraid I can't let that happen. What? I will not allow you to proceed. Pray forgive me, but I fear it may be necessary to fell you here and now, Prince Euden. Why?! What have I done to you?! A bleak future may be the end result of your actions here, and I will not permit such a thing to come to pass. Explain yourself! Answer me this one question, Prince Euden... I understand that you have a twin sister who is currently being held captive of a sort. Are you willing to cast aside everything in order to save her? Are you capable of sacrificing yourself, if necessary? My sister Zethia means more to me than anything, and I will do whatever is necessary to see her safe. I will risk all to save her! Then you are every inch the man I was told to expect. But despite that—no, BECAUSE of it— the future I fear may yet come to pass. I must test you to determine whether you are worthy of deciding this world's fate, Prince Euden. If you lack the strength, it will be you who brings about this future of despair. And if that is the case, then I fear you will meet your end this day! What is the meaning of this?! I dunno what's going on here, fella, but if ya wanna take down the boss, yer gonna have to go through me. I would have expected nothing less. And while it pains me to say so, I cannot promise not to harm you. All of you need to be careful—Chrom is the finest swordsman in all of Ylisse! Your warning is unnecessary, Princess. From the way he seeks to oppose us, his strength could not be more clear. But if he plans to stand in my way, I've no choice but to go through him. I admire the steel in your eyes, Prince. And while I wish we did not have to cross swords like this, I, too, am unable to yield. Now, let us each fight for what we must!
