Summary

The prince's party defeats the fiend thought to be the source of the calamity, but the dragon- vein spring is not restored. The true source of the trouble turns out to be the powerful fiend Valfarre, who the prince and his companions head for the space between worlds to defeat.

Dialogue

GRAAAA! Yes! Take that, fiendy! This should sort out the problem and see the dragon-vein spring restored. Yeah, it SHOULD...but I'm also getting a strange feeling here. A strange feeling indeed. At any rate, we should head back and inform Peng Lai. GRAAAAAAGH! Is that...the otherworld?! There's black mana flowing out of it! Well, this is certainly sub-optimal. Peng Lai! Stay back, young'uns! He's right. If we make contact with black mana, there's no telling what effect it might have. Why is this happening? Did we not defeat the fiend responsible for the trouble here? Oh, I was an old fool, and no mistake. Our real problem wasn't the spring dryin' up. The real problem is... Valfarre! Valfarre?! Valfarre's the fiend Xu Fu and I sealed away a hundred years ago. I failed to see that seal's finally comin' undone. It was actually a GOOD thing that other fiend had been takin' the mana from here! Valfarre's a fiend who eats endless amounts of mana. And so long as there's any around...it's invincible. That's why we sealed it away in the space between worlds. There's no true mana there. But looks like the critter was somehow able to tap into the dragon-vein spring. It probably woulda come through already if not for that other fiend you young'uns just took care of. Then by defeating that other fiend, we are responsible for Valfarre's arrival! Hush now—this here's my problem, and I'm gonna fix it. Now then, if this ends up badly for me, I need you to gather up the folks in Peng Lai and lead 'em to a safe location. But— URRRRRRRGH! GRAAAAAAAAAGH! Valfarre, you durn interloper! I ain't gonna let you harm my children! Leavin' an old geezer to lay his life on the line while we stand around really don't sit well with me. I was just thinking that! Then let's not wait—we'll head into the space between worlds and defeat Valfarre! Now that's a load'a tomfoolery if ever I heard it! Xu Fu and I were barely able to seal that feller away, and you think you're gonna DEFEAT him?! You yourself said we are all your children, Peng Lai. Mayhap I did. So? So it's time to prove to you that children can surpass their parents! Hooo... Ooh hoo! OOOH HOO HOO HOOOOOO! Well, I reckon maybe you're right— it's time for this old fart to stand back and let his children take the lead. Young'uns can indeed surpass their parents. And if you truly love 'em, you gotta send 'em out to face the world. I reckon I got no choice but to put all'a my faith and trust in you! Still, it's a good thing we got this visitor here with the dragon blood. You make sure to take good care of my children, hear? I'll do everything I can. But visitor or no, Valfarre is a problem that extends far beyond Peng Lai. Indeed. If left unchecked, it could spread calamity across the entire continent. So that's why we can't just ignore this, even if we wanted to. Seems like us elders have just been gettin' in the way of you young'uns. Right then, children! Get in there and show that Valfarre what-for! Okay. Let's do this.
