Adventurer Story Episodes
The Vampire Paladyn
Elisanne: It is all thanks to these clothes. No fiend has escaped me since I donned them.
Luca: Yeah, fiends are usually pretty perceptive, now that you mention it. The minute you try to attack, they turn tail and run.
Elisanne: But assuming the guise of a vampire has them completely fooled! Now I'm able to approach without them suspecting my ill intentions.
Luca: Yeah, it's a brilliant idea. Just...
Elisanne: Y-yes? What is it? And why are you staring at me like that?
Luca: It's just... Well, I'm surprised you agreed to put on that getup in the first place.
Elisanne: I don't see what choice I have, given its clear combat advantages! And I'm only still wearing it in case of a surprise attack. CERTAINLY not because it's so cute that I can't bear the idea of removing it.
Luca: Hey, whatever you say. Though speaking of combat advantages... I've just come up with something brilliant!
Elisanne: Not another of your silly pranks, I pray?
Luca: Nope! This is one hundred percent legit. It's a clever bit of strategy. Should make hunting fiends go a lot smoother, actually. If just looking like a fiend is this effective, imagine how easy it would be if you ACTED like one! Once you're a fiend inside and out, you'll have them completely fooled!
Elisanne: Hmm... There is a certain logic there. Then I must become a vampire and immerse myself in the role. I'll begin practicing at once, and then— Wait! No! This is not happening!
Luca: Huh? Why not?
Elisanne: Beyond just sucking blood, vampires are known to place others under a glamour. To...s-seduce them. I can't do that! I won't!
Luca: Well sure, not without practice. But once you master it, just imagine how much easier combat will be!
Elisanne: But... Hrmmm.
Luca: Unless you really ARE just playing dress- up in a cute outfit for the fun of it?
Elisanne: Fine! If you wish me to do it, I shall do it!
Luca: Perfect. Then let's get started. I'll show you a couple moves sure to steal any guy's heart. Watch close...
Elisanne: Y-you expect me to do THAT?! Have you no decency, sir?!
Luca: Ah, perfect. Hey, Euden! Over here!
Euden: Hey, guys. What are you up to?
Elisanne: H-hey, wait a... Luca, you can't mean to—
Luca: As it happens, Elisanne here has been practicing a new way to knock out fiends, and she wanted to show you her progress.
Euden: Your dedication to training is always an inspiration, Elly. I'd love to see what you've come up with.
Elisanne: Y-yes, but this isn't really... I mean, I can't very well just...
Luca: Go on, Elisanne. He's asking to see it.
Elisanne: Oh, dear... So be it... ...... ...Grk!
Luca: Uh oh, she locked up. If I'm honest, she lasted longer than I expected.
Cleo: Luca, I do understand the temptation, but kindly refrain from teasing poor Elisanne.
Elisanne: ...NWAH?! Luca! So this WAS all a prank?!
Luca: Wuh-oh!
Trouble In The Night
Cleo: Absolutely. I awoke this morning to find the Sweet Retreat nibbled to bits.
Elisanne: Hmm. It's curious that no one noticed.
Cleo: The culprit is clearly quite clever. We'll need someone in disguise to keep watch. Might I ask your help in this, Elisanne?
Elisanne: Of course. I promise to see your candy thief brought to swift justice. Ah ha! Shown yourself already, have you, fiend?!
Euden: Elly, wait! It's only me!
Elisanne: Ah! I beg your pardon, Your Highness... But may I ask what brings you here at this late hour?
Euden: I heard you were keeping watch all by yourself, and thought I'd drop by to see how things were going.
Elisanne: Worry not, Highness. This is my station, and I have things well in hand. But I do thank you for your kind concern. You always—
Euden: Hmm? What was that noise? Leaves in the wind, maybe?
Elisanne: ...No. It moves at a steady pace. And it makes for the Sweet Retreat.
Euden: This may be our fiend. Let's follow it.
Elisanne: Shall we split up? A pincer attack will ensure it has nowhere to run.
Euden: Yes, but that also doubles our chance of being heard. We should stick together.
Elisanne: Understood. ...Er, Euden? Might you give me a bit more space, please?
Euden: Oh, sorry! I figured we'd be less likely to tip off the fiend if we were close. Walking side by side would make us twice as easy to spot.
Elisanne: Er...that may be so, but I also don't think walking one atop the other is a good idea. I can't take this!
Euden: Elisanne? What's wrong? If you rush in, you'll just—
Elisanne: I-it's a preemptive strike! We'll just slay the creature before it sees us coming! KRAAAAAAAAA!
Ranzal: What the heck, Elisanne?!
Elisanne: Wha—RANZAL?! ...Er, why are you holding a hunk of cookie-dough spackle? You're the candy thief! *sigh* Of course you are.
Ranzal: Now hold on a sec! There's a reasonable explanation to all'a this! The thought'a fiends sneakin' into the Halidom had me walkin' the floors at night, yeah? So I decided to go on watch duty—and ya know how stakeouts make a guy hungry. Then my patrol just HAPPENS to take me past a house made'a treats? C'mon! How am I NOT supposed to eat it?!
Elisanne: That is EXACTLY what you were supposed to do. You're no better than an animal. No, a fiend!
Ranzal: ...Yeaaaah. Sorry 'bout that.
Elisanne: I'll have you know your antics put me in an extremely uncomfortable position!
Euden: Wait...what?
The Prince and the Pumpkins
Elisanne: Why are you covered in dirt like a common peasant, Your Highness?
Euden: Oh, I'm picking pumpkins.
Elisanne: Well, yes. I can see that much. I was more asking why His Royal Highness is mucking about in dirt in the first place.
Euden: I'm helping to prepare for the party. Apparently we're still short on decorations, so I went pumpkin hunting.
Elisanne: That's useful context, yet still fails to explain why you—our leader, and royalty to boot—are performing manual labor. You are lord of this castle. Leave tasks of that nature to those of us who serve you.
Euden: Well, I suppose that's the way it would normally work.
Elisanne: I am glad we're in agreement.
Euden: But that's not how I want to do things. I'm helping out because I WANT to. I'm excited to be a part of everything.
Elisanne: *sigh* I should have expected as much. Then at least allow me to help you. I trust you have no problem with that?
Euden: That would be great. Thanks, Elly.
Elisanne: ...All right. I think that should be enough.
Euden: Thanks, Elly. That went much faster with two of us. Heh. I'm actually a bit tired out. These things are heavy!
Elisanne: Why don't you rest there for a spell? I'll bring you something to drink. Here you are, Your Highness.
Euden: Thank you. *glug* Mmm, that's cold.
Elisanne: I think I'll rest for a spell as well. Do you mind if I sit beside you?
Euden: Be my guest.
Elisanne: ......
Euden: ...... ...This is nice.
Elisanne: Picking pumpkins? I knew you were unusual for a prince, but I'd not expected you to take an interest in tilling the soil.
Euden: Oh? I think there's a certain appeal to working the land. But when I said this was nice, I was talking about helping organize the party. Back in the capital, they used to hold grand festivals in the city below, but I always had to watch from the castle. I always wanted to actually take part in one instead of just...seeing it. Halloween seemed especially fun, but that was off-limits for a whole host of reasons.
Elisanne: Ah. That's why you were so eager to help.
Euden: Yep. Heck, I jumped at the chance. I mean, attending a party that you actually helped put together? I'm sure it's a trivial thing to most people, but to me, it's a dream long in the making. That's why I'm just so...happy...
Elisanne: Your Highness?! What's wrong?! Oh, I knew all that physical labor was a bad idea! Stay with me, Your Highness! Don't go toward the light!
Euden: Zzzzzz...
Elisanne: He's...sleeping? Oh, phew! I nearly had heart failure for a moment there. Still, the hard ground is no suitable pillow for a prince. My lap is mostly muscle, but it should still be softer than the land. Though now that I think on it, this is a rather intimate position. We must look to all the world like a pair of love...
Ranzal: ...Whoa.
Elisanne: ...WHOA.
Ranzal: Sorry! Didn't mean to interrupt.
Shopping Date
Elisanne: What, right now? We've only just finished the hunt. Can it not wait until we return home?
Cleo: I just remembered that we're out of bread for dinner. If we return to the Halidom and then go shopping, it will delay the evening meal.
Euden: In that case, we'll send a few people. This was a hard-won battle, though. The only uninjured ones are me and...
Elisanne: Me.
Cleo: Yes, wonderful. However you want to do it. Just please get the bread. Oh, and I apologize for allowing our stores to fall so low. By way of said apology, feel free to pick up a treat for yourselves. ...Within budget, of course. I don't want you coming back with a diamond-tip cane.
Euden: Not to worry. All right, Elly. Shall we?
Elisanne: H-hold on a moment! I don't feel right going into town dressed like...this.
Ranzal: Hey, good point. We're all used to seein' it by now, but the townsfolk ain't.
Euden: I see how that might give them a start. I'll just go alone.
Elisanne: No, you mustn't! Your protection is my sworn duty as a Paladyn! ...And yet, this outfit truly IS beyond the pale.
Cleo: Trapped between duty and modesty. It's a difficult choice.
Elisanne: No it isn't! What choice has a knight but duty? Petty shame will not sway me from my sworn task!
Ranzal: Right! Guess that settles it.
Elisanne: C-come along, Your Highness. The whole point is to get dinner started on time. ...They are staring. ...They are most DEFINITELY staring.
Euden: Are you going to be all right, Elly?
Elisanne: Y-yes, I'm fine. I'll just block it out and get this over with.
Bakery Staff: Oy, welcome! We got a fresh batch straight outta the oven!
Euden: Mmm, it smells delicious. Let's get what we need and hurry back. ...Hmm? What's that decoration they have on the counter?
Elisanne: That is known as a jack-o'-lantern, Your Highness.
Bakery Staff: We're preparin' for Halloween, see? Whole town throws a festival on the big day, so it does!
Euden: That sounds great! I'd love to come see it.
Elisanne: Er, but are we not holding our own party at the Halidom?
Euden: Yes, but I don't see why one should rule out the other. Two parties means twice the fun, right?
Bakery Staff: Bwa ha ha! This guy gets it! Here, take this, party man. On the house! Hope to see ya at the festival! Hope to see you there too, cutie.
Elisanne: HOW DARE YOU, SIR! I'll not be subjected to this man's lasciviousness! We are leaving!
Bakery Staff: Er, I dunno what that means, but hey, thanks for stoppin' by!
Elisanne: Merchants are such shameless flatterers.
Euden: Oh, I don't think he was so far off the mark.
Elisanne: What? Nonsense! I'm far from what anyone would call—
General Store Staff: Evening, miss! We've got a trove of cute accessories fresh in today. Have a look!
Elisanne: Ooo, a pair of jack-o'-lantern earrings... Those ARE cute.
Euden: If you like them, why not pick them up? Cleo said you could, remember?
General Store Staff: Here's a tip, buddy: When buying a gift for your girlfriend, tell her it's ALMOST as pretty as she is!
Euden: Girlfriend?!
General Store Staff: Oh, you two aren't...? Oops! My mistake. The young lady is dressed so fashionably, I just assumed the two of you were out on a date or somesuch.
Elisanne: A D-D-DATE?! You are mistaken! I am a... We are not... HOW DARE YOU, MADAM! ...I have to go. *huff* *pant* Oh, I knew this outfit would make me the object of mockery.
Euden: I don't think anyone has been mocking you.
Elisanne: What other explanation is there?
Euden: I should think they all meant what they said sincerely. They were just paying you a compliment.
Elisanne: What?! Impossible. That would mean all the business of being cute and fashionable was actually... M-may I ask Your Highness's opinion on the matter, then? Er, that is to say...do you think I look cute in this?
Euden: Sorry, what was that? I couldn't hear you over that sudden gust of wind.
Elisanne: N-nothing! I did not say a word! Let's hurry back.
Euden: Er, but I thought you wanted to ask me something.
Halloween Night's Dream
Euden: We got cut short last time, remember? You didn't get the chance to buy those earrings you liked. I thought it would be nice to go back and fix that.
Elisanne: Yes, I suppose we WERE cut short.
Euden: Had you really forgotten?
Elisanne: No no, I remember. Quite vividly, in fact. I also recall you said you were eager to join in the Halloween festivities. And today just happens to be the day.
Euden: Ha ha! Okay, you caught me. I think I mentioned it to you before, but... Well, I've never had the opportunity to experience a town festival before.
Elisanne: Which is why we decided to hold our own celebration here at the Halidom.
Euden: And I'm thankful for that. But there's a bit more to it. Just once, I'd love to be able to forget my station as a royal and enjoy myself like a normal person. I'm excited for our party here—really. But...you all still treat me like a prince.
Elisanne: Ah. You are lord of this castle. Leave tasks of that nature to those of us who serve you.
Euden: But if we sneak into the town celebration...
Elisanne: I understand perfectly. Allow me to make this wish come true, then. We shall go together.
Euden: Thanks, Elly.
Elisanne: You needn't thank me, Highness. It is a Paladyn's duty to see her lord's wishes... Ah, apologies. I'd already forgotten that we are dispensing with all that today. It's my pleasure to help a friend's wish come true...Euden.
Euden: I appreciate it, Elly.
Elisanne: But do allow me to change first. I've had quite enough of walking about town dressed like THIS.
Luca: No need for that!
Elisanne: Luca! How long have you been there, and what exactly do you mean?
Luca: It's a Halloween party, you goofs. The whole town's dressed up! I hear someone breezed through town in a cute costume earlier and it sparked a whole dress-up craze.
Elisanne: Wait. Y-you don't mean...me? In some ways, this is the most embarrassing moment yet.
Luca: Aw, let 'em have their fun. Plus, this way you get to wear that getup without feeling self-conscious!
Elisanne: I suppose if everyone else is in costume as well, there's no harm in joining in. Wait. Did you come here just to tell me that particular fact?
Luca: Yep! Well, that and... Um, sorry for teasing you before. I can tell how much you like that outfit. I shouldn't have poked fun at you for it.
Elisanne: Wha—?! N-no! I'm wearing this purely for the combat benefits, and not... ...No. It's time I admitted it to myself. I love this outfit. I think it's adorable. And I'm thrilled at the chance to wear it! Thank you for telling me, Luca.
Luca: Hey, no problem! You two kids have fun. Not as a knight and her lord—but as a couple of friends.
Elisanne: ...Goodness, the town really IS full of people in costume.
Euden: Were you worried Luca was playing another of his pranks?
Elisanne: A bit. It's a relief.
Euden: Well, good! Now let's take in the sights!
SYS: The festival was a roaring success. Many people attended in costume, and had a delightful time. The town was awash in wide smiles. Euden and Elisanne also found themselves grinning ear-to-ear as their enjoyable day passed by in the blink of an eye.
Euden: Phew! I think we've done a full lap. We handed out candy, ate MORE candy, bought a nice souvenir... What a wonderful festival.
Elisanne: A day of peace and joy amid trying times. I'm almost loath to return to the castle. Once we're back at the Halidom, it's back to a knight and her lord again.
Euden: Elisanne...?
Elisanne: Oh! Apologies. It was a silly thought. I shouldn't have—
Euden: Please don't apologize. I was thinking the same thing.
Elisanne: Your Highness... *sigh* We should be getting back. I'm sure the others are waiting. We can't very well begin our Halloween party without the guest of honor.
Euden: ...No, I suppose not. Let's be going, then. And thank you. Today will make for a lovely memory.
