Kai Yan's Wrath: Master is a challenge quest centered on a boss battle with Kai Yan, unlocked upon the completion of Chapter 10 and any Advanced Dragon Trial at standard difficulty, and meeting the minimum might requirement of 34,000.

Stat and Equipment Requirements

HP

HP isn't too much of a concern if adventurers are properly built with ideal equipment and maxed-out augments, and a healer is used, which is highly recommended.

• It's strongly suggested to max out your at level 25 before attempting this quest.

Weapons

For Master, at a minimum, adventurers should be equipped with at least a MUB 6 Agito tier 1 weapon. This includes even supportive role adventurers as the quest difficulty is extremely high.

Dragons

Everyone should ideally be equipped with a max-unbound 5 Shadow-attuned dragon for Master.

• Although it is possible to clear comfortably with a non-max-unbound , you may run into issues with joining or hosting rooms in public co-op due to your reduced might, if you have not acquired a tier 2 Agito weapon yet.

Adventurers	Dragons
DPS - All DPS adventurers use standard DPS dragons. Gala Cat Sith can run out of skill damage buffs on Gala Alex and Bellina due to their very high skill usage frequency versus the quest's average duration. Use a different dragon for them. Andromeda requires the adventurer to stay at 30% HP or below to gain most of the strength boost and the defense boost, and is likely ideal for a Bellina, who can damage themselves to meet the threshold. It also provides additional safety for Veronica, should you choose to equip her with Andromeda, too. Fatalis automatically inflicts Curse that never expires upon exiting shapeshift. Adventurers with Fatalis equipped will have to touch one of Kai Yan's Unbreakable Satellites to receive Blindness, which overwrites it, should you have used his shapeshift (which isn't recommended). This property makes Fatalis a bit annoying to use on Forte, as she wants to shift a lot, but will need to repeatedly re-Blind herself every time she exits shapeshift. Bellina doesn't have to worry about this Curse at all - using Dragondrive will not trigger it. Any other adventurers that have will not be able to dragon tank unavoidable attacks without having the healer or a Patia carry 's as a shared skill to perform curse cleanse once they exit shapeshift.
Supportive White Sparrow - As a support adventurer, beside standard DPS dragons, Patia can also utilize Azazel to increase the frequency of her buffs, or a bog-inflicting dragon such as Leviathan, High Mercury, or Peng Lai, to inflict bog on a broken Kai Yan to significantly increase break DPS.
The Belle Healer - As a traditional healer in a high-DPS-requirement quest, Cleo can either opt for buff frequency (with Azazel), damage output (using non-Skill Damage DPS dragons), or healing output (with HP dragons, not really optimal). isn't as suitable in this quest due to the low amounts of dragon gauge gain, but can work with a very high amount of Dragon Haste abilities, co-abilities, and chain co-abilities, as well as 's Dragon ClawLv. 1: shared skill.
Life Shield Lady - Grace really wants HP dragons above all else to maximize her life shields, so her choices are much more limited than standard healers.

Wyrmprints

All adventurers that aren't Cleo should equip their standard wyrmprints, in a composition without

.

• If the composition contains a , as the secondary wyrmprint can significantly boost DPS teamwide due to the very high amounts of defense buffs from both Patia and either Cleo or Grace.

I NEED HEALING! - Cleo's wyrmprints can be a bit complicated, so let's break it down into parts - Cleo's best wyrmprints can change depending on the equipped dragon and play style. For the primary slot, it depends on whether Cleo is focusing on healing, buffing, or attacking. Proper Maintenance's extends the duration of Cleo's regen healing and defense buff from her Ancient AegisLv. 1: , and also does the same for Strength and Defense buffs, on top of adding a to slightly increase her healing and damage output when she's at full HP. The Fires of Hate has the same as Proper Maintenance, but gives up the Buff Skill Time ability in exchange for , which can significantly increase Cleo's damage output, especially while shapeshifted against a poisoned Kai Yan. Give Me Your Wounded and Study Rabbits are standard healer wyrmprints which improve Cleo's healing output and survivability. This is usually excessive, though, as Cleo overheals. For the secondary slot, wyrmprints enable the entire team to be able to shapeshift earlier, which may make it easier to "dragon tank" the unavoidable attack, Universal Annihilation. The Bridal Dragon slightly increases Cleo's DPS while in dragon form with a ability, and is suitable when you're using , , , or Welcome to the Halidom! grants Cleo in a pinch. A Suit of Midnight allows Cleo to take up to three attacks that inflict Blindness without being afflicted. This also works for mitigating ' automatic Curse if you use him for dragon tanking. Note that Affliction Guard will be consumed even when Cleo is struck by an attack that deals Paralysis. Blossoms on the Water's Edge lets Cleo shapeshift faster with a ability.

Party Roles

DPS

These units will be doing the majority of the DPS.

• They can fill 3 team slots in a 3DPS composition, and leave the last slot for or .
• They can also fill all 4 if two of the slots are taken up by s if everyone is equipped with .
• Alternatively, with a single Patia, they can also fill all 4 if planning to speedrun a clear within 2 minutes, skipping all unavoidable attacks by sheer DPS with a Patia focused on buffing with , or bogging on break with a bog-inflicting dragon such as .

Don't bring more than one Ieyasu, two Patias, or all Gala Cleos in the whole composition, due to bleeding or buff zone stacking limits, exposing their relatively low personal DPS.

The healer keeps the team alive, provides support, and in the case of Cleo, potentially deal damage themselves.

	Cleo has low personal DPS, but has high healing output, can , provides Paralysis relief, grants some defensive support, and can end up contributing somewhat in damage output with DPS dragons (taking advantage of her innate with each shapeshift) or 's buffs.
	Grace provides a very large which can protect adventurers from being afflicted and blocks knockback while the shield is not completely destroyed. Her buff is much higher, at 100%, but also lasts significantly shorter than Cleo's, making it more suitable for mitigating severe damage. Also s.

General Party Setup

The general setup is a 3DPS setup. It is also possible to run a 4DPS setup with two

s if everyone is equipped with , or a speedrun setup with a single Patia focused on buffing or inflicting bog on a broken Kai Yan.

Composition
A sample 3DPS composition with Cleo as the healer, generally suitable for adventurers that prefer staying at high HP. Don't run adventurers that like staying at low HP with Cleo or Gala Cleo(s) as their damage output will suffer.
A sample 3DPS composition with Grace as the healer, which is highly suitable with adventurers that function best at low HP, such as Bellina and Veronica, and also works with general DPS.
A sample 4DPS composition with two Patias (also known as a PPNG composition though now with different adventurers), relying on on to provide healing, in conjunction with defense buffs. Produces a similar speed to healer Cleo composition. It is possible to replace one of the Patias with . cannot replace a Patia, and she goes into a normal DPS slot, as her regen is infrequent compared to Zena. At least one adventurer must be able to dispel; it might be a good idea for Patias to carry a dispelling shared skill to improve safety. Don't run adventurers that like staying at low HP with an Odd Sparrows dual-Patia composition as their damage output will suffer.
A sample 4DPS composition with one Patia, having all DPS adventurers equip to maximize their DPS via the sheer amount of Strength Doublebuffs. Provides the fastest clear times, though has zero tolerance for mistakes. It is possible to replace two of the Bellinas with different high-DPS adventurers. If this cannot be executed consistently with your current equipment or team setup, use a different composition.

Attacks and Patterns

On Adamantine Shield

is a buff that renders Kai Yan immune to afflictions, creates a barrier around him, and will regenerate the barrier if it is destroyed, provided the buff is still active.

• Since this is a buff, it can be removed by a effect. Doing so will also instantly remove the barrier if it is up.
• If the barrier is hit by an adventurer, Kai Yan will take no damage, but the adventurer will receive a fixed 200 HP of damage in the Master difficulty.
• The barrier can withstand 60 hits before breaking.
• In the Master difficulty, every time Kai Yan produces a shield, he also produces an additional buff that has to be dispelled first.

Hence, at least two adventurers should be able to dispel ideally. Innate dispels are strongly preferred, but any adventurer can borrow

The two healers have different dispel speeds and requirements.

• Cleo requires the use of Elder CureLv. 1: to activate Strike, but her dispel is fast both charging and animation-wise, and it is possible to save this dispel just in case, as Cleo also heals with her second skill, Ancient AegisLv. 1: , and she can maintain the regen indefinitely with sufficient amounts of Buff Time boosts.
• Grace does not require any pre-setup, but her force strike charges at a glacial pace, making pre-loading dispels tricky in high-intensity situations, as you tend to need to dispel twice in a row.

On Battleground

is a special effect that creates a field around the enemy. Enemies in this zone will take 2x damage, while adventurers will take 1.5x damage.

All adventurers should stay within the Battleground area to maximize DPS. No unavoidable attack from Kai Yan will one-shot any adventurer that is properly following gameplay instructions from full HP even if you're within the Battleground area, so don't worry too much about it under most circumstances.

Note: This is based on a run that can last about 5-6 minutes, suitable as a ballpark range for a newcomer clear. Some moves may be skipped or shortened if teamwide DPS is higher.

Opening Blast

This is the fight's initial "HP check" blast.

• Most adventurers should stay put to reduce the damage taken, but adventurers that have their DPS improve at low HP should immediately get close to Kai Yan so that they take increased damage from the opening blast.
• should use Ancient AegisLv. 1: to reduce the damage taken.
• with equipped should use Sorrow's RequiemLv. 1: to grant everyone a to mitigate the damage entirely.
  • If the composition is composed entirely of either s or s, Grace can opt to not life shield anyone until the opening blast hits, to increase their DPS, at the expense of some initial life shield HP.
• Afterwards, in a non-low HP composition, if possible, heal it back up ASAP to restore HP conditional abilities. Ancient Aegis will provide healing, but one may opt to run other skills to make it go a bit faster.
  • Shared skills can help with further mitigation and/or healing.

Afterwards, DPS adventurers should move towards Kai Yan.

Charge

Kai Yan will charge towards the unit at the farthest distance. The healer should bait this, and all adventurers should roll towards Kai Yan's destination, or iframe it with a skill.

Claw Swipes

Kai Yan will perform four (sometimes two, if DPS is very high) claw swipes, targeted at the closest unit. These attacks are unavoidable within their markers, so you must avoid being within the zone.

• Kai Yan will retarget on the closest adventurer at the time of the third swipe.
• The blind zone varies with each swipe.

Mini Universal Annihilation

Purple marker attack covering the Battleground. Leave the Battleground area.

• (with any dragon with dragondrive, with if out of dragondrive) and (if equipped with ), and anyone with 's stacked defense buffs can stay within the Battleground and continue DPSing as normal if they're in dragondrive (applicable to Bellina only, if the equipped dragon is not Andromeda) and their life shields are at least 75% full.

Adamantine Shield

Kai Yan will spawn two purple markers, covering the entire arena. Neither marker inflicts damage, but they carry severe debuff effects.

• The inner area, within the Battleground, inflicts Strength Down -50% to everyone within the area.
• The outer area, outside the Battleground, inflicts Skill Suppression, emptying out all skill gauges while it lasts.

Generally, it is a good idea to stay within the Battleground as Strength Down is a minor inconvenience, while Skill Suppression can cause severe issues.

An Adamantine Shield will spawn along with a Strength buff once the markers hit.

• es will have to wait for the buff icon to show up before attempting to dispel. Other dispellers may preload their dispels.

Satellite Chasers

4 purple chaser markers spawn that track each adventurer, inflicting damage on hit, and also leaves a satellite on the ground for the rest of the quest that also inflicts damage on contact.

All adventurers should spread out, go towards the edge of the map, outside the Battleground. Avoid overlapping, and immediately roll inwards towards Kai Yan, back into the Battleground, once the attack hits.

• Avoid placing these satellites along the top edge of the map - that's where Kai Yan throws adventurers to. If there are satellites there, these adventurers will take damage twice.
• Note that the healer should not roll into the Battleground - they should simply make sure they aren't in contact with any other satellite, and stay far away from Kai Yan, in preparation for the next attack.
• DPS adventurers that aren't might want to save their skills in preparation for the next attack.

Crushing Cataclysm

Kai Yan will grab the farthest adventurer, determined at the time when Kai Yan starts walking towards the center of the map, and trap them. If the purple marker fills up, everyone caught up in the area will take lethal damage that cannot be mitigated.

• The healer should try to bait this, otherwise the DPS check is extremely tough.

Supreme Spheres

Kai Yan will spawn six Supreme Spheres that slowly move towards Kai Yan. If they make contact towards Kai Yan, they grant Kai Yan buffs, and also give him Adamantine Shield.

• The healer should get close to Kai Yan and be prepared to bait Kai Yan's charges towards the lower-left.
• DPS adventurers should immediately destroy the lower-left sphere so that the path is clear for baiting.
• DPS adventurers should not stand too close to Kai Yan to avoid stealing bait.
• 's Ancient RayLv. 1: and 's Renegade DescentLv. 1: (while in Dragondrive as Renegade Dragonfall) can make quick work of these spheres.

Charge x4

Kai Yan will charge towards the nearest adventurer four times in a row. While the healer is busy baiting Kai Yan, the other DPSes should destroy the spheres ASAP.

• Staying within the Battleground can improve 's Ancient RayLv. 1: and 's Renegade DescentLv. 1: (while in Dragondrive as Renegade Dragonfall) efficacy.

Unbreakable Satellites

Kai Yan will spawn a purple ring outside the Battleground area, creating many Unbreakable Satellites which inflict Blindness on contact. Stay inside the Battleground area.

Universal Annihilation (Stack Version)

Unavoidable map-wide attack. The marker within the Battleground area is a stack marker, and the damage dealt if everyone is within the stack marker is significantly reduced compared to being outside of it. Unbreakable Satellites will also respawn.

Kai Yan will also immediately spawn an Adamantine Shield and a Strength Up buff. Dispel them ASAP.

• If shapeshift is available and you are not using , shapeshift now and dragon tank the attack.
• Otherwise, stay within the Battleground area, and if possible, use defense buffs to reduce the oncoming damage.

Mini Universal Annihilation

Purple marker attack covering the Battleground. Unbreakable Satellites will also respawn.

• Make sure to not accidentally hit an Unbreakable Satellite; move along their path! There should be two gaps where you can move safely in.

Claw Swipes

Kai Yan will perform three claw swipes, targeted at the closest unit. These attacks are unavoidable within their markers, so you must avoid being within the zone.
