Summary

The party meets a young woman named Lin You who is on a journey to train as a warrior. Taking a hint from some folklore she shares, they quickly realize the town could be attacked by fiends, so they put the dragon-vein spring investigation on hold and head back to Peng Lai.

Dialogue

Hragh! Whew! There are quite a number of fiends in this area, it seems. That's troubling; we aren't all that far from the town. Is it always like this around here, Su Fang? No. There are many fiends within the forest, but they shouldn't be here. Hey, everybody! Look over there! Mao! Mao Mao! (Taste my fists of fury, vile fiends!) Mao Mao! MAO! (Shattering Mao Mao Punch!) Mao-Maoooooooo! (HIII-YAAAAAA!) Gruh? M-mao! (M-my attack didn't defeat you?! Wowsers, you sure are something!) Get outta the way, Mao Mao! Mao MAO! (I'm not in the way! I'm HELPING!) Just let me handle this already! Fiends are attacking that girl! And, er...that panda? We have to help them! Stand back! We'll take care of this! What the—huh?! HAAAAAAH! Whew! That should do it for the fiends. Are you all right? YOU JERK! You took out ALL the fiends! Er, sorry. Was that bad? I was just about to do that! Mao Mao! (We were going to prove our strength!) Although YOU beat the fiends... Which means if WE beat YOU, we're stronger than the fiends! Right then: Let's fight! I am very confused right now. Come on! We have to duel! I don't WANT to duel you! Traveler from Taiwu: Lin You My name is Lin You, and I've come all the way from Taiwu on a journey to train myself into a true warrior. And this here is Mao Mao. Wait, are you saying there's a whole TOWN of Taiwu people around here? Well, not Taiwu people exactly, but our ancestors came from there. About a hundred years ago, people of the Qilin tribe came here from Taiwu and founded this town. The Qilin tribe? If I'm not mistaken, they were a small tribe that resided in a secluded place. Legends say they possessed mysterious skills and techniques in many subjects. Indeed. For example, the manufacturing process for pyroblossoms was brought here by Xu Fu—a member of the Qilin tribe and the founder of our town. Actually, my master—the one who's teaching me to be a warrior—is a member of the Qilin tribe. You're being taught martial arts by one of the Qilin tribe?! That’s incredible! Hee hee! My master actually ordered me on this journey in order to train. So what are you all doing here? We've come from Peng Lai to investigate the dragon-vein spring that dried up. WHAAAAT?! The spring dried up?! It's understandable that you’re shocked. Under normal circumstances, such things should be impossible. Actually, now that I think about it, my master mentioned something like that happening a long time ago. What?! When?! And how?! Oh man, it was sooo long ago. I don't really... Can't you remember anything at all? It could contain a vital clue! Well I thiiink it was because the people kept sucking up the land's energy or something? Oh, and even the fiends had their mana pulled from them. Lost mana... Fiends... More fiends than usual... Oh! Egads! I've realized something terrible! Xiao Lei? What is it? We must get back to Peng Lai right now! What's the hurry? If my calculations are correct, the town is about to be attacked by fiends! What?! We're not the only ones who have been blessed by the dragon-vein spring's mana. The fiends have also benefited. When fiends that once obtained mana from a spring can no longer do so, they will seek out a substitute. And mana gathers in places where there is life. Forests, lakes...and towns. There isn't a more abundant mana source around here than the town of Peng Lai. They're going to be in real trouble! Then we'll investigate the spring later. Let's get back to town right now!
