Adventurer Story Episodes

Episode 1

Unearthed While Cleaning

Elisanne: ...That takes care of the kitchen. Do you need assistance cleaning the storehouse?

Cleo: Euden should have that under control.

Cleo: Perhaps you could go see if Ranzal needs anything.

Elisanne: I'll do that. ...Tsk. It's rather shocking how dirty this place has become.

Cleo: It's difficult to keep a place this large neat and tidy. I'm merely thankful we had the day free to deal with it.

Cleo: We rarely have enough time to spare for cleaning.

Cleo: Which is all the more reason to knuckle down and finish it today.

Euden: This painting...

Cleo: Are you finished with the storehouse, Euden? ...Hmm? Have you discovered something?

Euden: I found this painting while I was cleaning. Can you tell what it's supposed to be?

Cleo: That's... Augh! K-kindly hand that to me!

Euden: Er, of course. Here you are.

Euden: It's hard to tell, but I think it's a painting of some hideous beast.

Cleo: A beast?! How dare you, sir! This is a portrait!

Euden: A portrait? Of...a person? Are you sure?

Cleo: I am extremely certain.

Euden: Wait. Cleo, didn't you say something about painting pictures to help remember your previous master?

Euden: So does that mean...YOU painted this?

Euden: Er... Why, this is a WONDERFUL portrait! It doesn't look like a hideous beast at all! In fact, I'm going to hang it up right—

Cleo: Stop.

Cleo: I am quite aware that I lack even the slightest hint of artistic talent.

Euden: That's not true.

Cleo: Just a moment ago, you mistook my painting of a man for that of a "hideous beast."

Cleo: I appreciate the thought, but you needn't lie to spare my feelings.

Cleo: If anything, I owe you thanks for finding this. I had been looking for it.

Euden: Well, I'm glad for that much, at least. ...But if I may, Cleo, was your previous master—

Ranzal: Hey, Euden! Can I get some help cleaning out the armory, or are ya gonna stand there and chew the fat all damn day?!

Cleo: There will be time for us to speak after the cleaning is done.

Cleo: Run along to the armory.

Cleo: I shall tend to the garden. We'll have this place sparkling by sundown!

Euden: Now that I think about it, I don't know much about Cleo's time before this.

Euden: I wonder what sort of person her former master was...?

Episode 2

Above and Beyond

Euden: You wanted to talk to me, Elisanne?

Elisanne: Yes, about Cleo. She's been working far too hard of late.

Euden: Hmm. I suppose she does take care of pretty much everything around here.

Ranzal: Plus she patches us up after every fight.

Ranzal: That's about double the work I do.

Euden: All right. Let's see if we can't lighten that load for her a bit.

Euden: Starting today, we'll all take over some of her chores.

Ranzal: Guess that makes me the grub man. I'll head to the kitchen and—

Cleo: Dinner is served.

Ranzal: Buh?!

Euden: Er, isn't this a little early for dinner?

Cleo: I acquired some lovely fish today and thought it best to prepare it while it was at the peak of freshness.

Cleo: Also, I see nothing wrong with sitting down to dine at such an hour.

Elisanne: N-no, it's a fine time for dinner. Thank you, Cleo. It smells delicious.

Euden: Ah! There's still laundry to do, right?

Cleo: I dried and folded everything an hour ago.

Euden: Well, what about scrubbing the soot off the castle wal—

Cleo: Done.

Euden: Ah. Well, um...thank you, I suppose. You certainly do move quickly when it comes to cleaning, Cleo.

Elisanne: Indeed. Is there even anything left for the rest of us to do?

Cleo: Might I inquire as to your sudden interest in my cleaning habits? It almost seems like you're plotting something.

Euden: P-plotting? Who's plotting?!

Euden: We just realized we had some time to kill and wanted to help however we could.

Cleo: Sadly, I don't think I can be of assistance with that.

Cleo: I'll see you all in the dining hall, then? Do come eat while it's hot.

Elisanne: That woman is a machine.

Elisanne: I don't know if we're ever going to beat her to the punch on chores.

Ranzal: It's great that she's perfect and all, but it makes tryin' to help her a nightmare.

Ranzal: There's gotta be SOMETHIN' we can do.

Euden: I got it! We'll throw her a party!

Ranzal: Hey, that ain't a bad idea!

Ranzal: I mean, everybody loves a feast, yeah?

Elisanne: I think it's a lovely idea—so long as we ensure that Cleo does nothing but sit back and enjoy the festivities.

Euden: We can even make it a surprise. ...Heh. This is going to be fun.

Episode 3

Like King, Like Descendant

Euden: I'm all for throwing a party for Cleo, but— OW! Blast!

Euden: How can peeling vegetables be so hard?

Euden: All right, Euden. You can do this. Do it for Cleo!

Cleo: ...What are you doing?

Euden: GYA! C-Cleo?! What are you doing?!

Cleo: That is literally the exact question I just posed to you.

Cleo: But if you must know, I heard screams of pain coming from the kitchen and decided to investigate.

Cleo: And what do I find but our fearless leader engaging in a personal vendetta against his own fingers.

Euden: What? No, I'm just getting things ready for the parrrrr... Er, I mean, I decided to get a head start on dinner.

Euden: So as you can see, I'm peeling these vegetables for a completely normal reason.

Cleo: Considering your peeling skills—and the amount of blood on the floor—one could argue this makes MORE work for me. But I appreciate the thought regardless.

Cleo: Now let me bandage your hands before you pass out.

Cleo: I'm quite capable of handling the cooking, Euden. You go rest.

Euden: No, Cleo. It has to be me that makes it, or else there's no point.

Cleo: I have no idea what that means. But as you're clearly not going to take no for an answer, allow me to show you the proper way to go about this task.

Cleo: I'd rather not spend the rest of my evening stitching you back together.

Cleo: ...Very good. Now we merely need to wait for it to finish simmering.

Euden: You really do know everything, Cleo. It's kind of amazing.

Cleo: You act as if I possess an innate natural talent. Time and practice is all it requires.

Cleo: It's merely the product of long years spent trying to please him.

Euden: You mean your previous master?

Euden: If you don't mind my prying, what was he like?

Cleo: That is not a question to be asked lightly.

Cleo: But if you're so curious, why not look into it yourself?

Euden: It's just that there's so little to go on.

Cleo: Then I shall give you one small hint.

Cleo: You bear a strong resemblance to him— likely because you're a product of the dragon's blood that flows in your veins.

Euden: So he was a royal, then? We share a bloodline?

Cleo: His is a name that any in this kingdom would know at once.

Euden: A royal everyone would know...

Euden: The first thought that pops in my head is Alberius the Founder, but that's hardly... Wait, don't tell me—

Cleo: Indeed. It was my great pleasure to serve Alberius.

Cleo: A people could scarce hope for a nobler or more just monarch.

Euden: You worked for THE Alberius?!

Euden: You fought alongside the dragons?! You helped found the kingdom?!

Cleo: *sniff* ...Do you smell something burning, Euden?

Euden: The stew! I have to get it off the stove!

Cleo: Distraction is the death of skilled cooking.

Episode 4

Not a Servant

Euden: Come in, Cleo—and keep your eyes shut.

Cleo: Would you kindly explain what this is about? It's unnerving to be stumbling about blind.

Euden: Okay, you can open your eyes now!

Cleo: ...Oh. Oh my. That's quite the feast. What is all this about?

Euden: You're always doing so much for us, so we wanted to do something for you.

Elisanne: We all pitched in to help!

Ranzal: Even me. Now take a load off and dig in before the chow gets cold.

Cleo: This explains all the sneaking about lately.

Euden: I suppose we weren't exactly subtle. But since you're always the one doing this kind of thing, we don't have much practice.

Euden: That's why we wanted to treat you for once.

Euden: So...do you like it?

Cleo: You hardly needed to go to such lengths. I am but a servant.

Cleo: Simply doing my job satisfactorily doesn't merit any special celebration.

Euden: You're not my servant, Cleo—you're my friend, and a trusted teammate to us all.

Euden: And that means we all have to pitch in.

Euden: I don't want to tell you how to do your job, but I'd personally prefer to be partners and friends, not master and servant.

Cleo: I... Thank you, Euden.

Cleo: You really are just like him.

Euden: What was that, Cleo?

Cleo: ...Nothing. Now then, am I truly meant to eat all of this by my lonesome?

Ranzal: Yep. It's your party, so pack it in!

Cleo: In what world could one woman eat this volume of food?

Cleo: Have you not heard of portion control?

Cleo: Also, your hand looks to be in even worse shape than the last time I saw you.

Euden: I ran into trouble peeling vegetables. ...Er, again.

Cleo: If you are injured, come and see me. I need not know the cause.

Cleo: And if you wish to make me happy, it will need to be a team effort. All of us, or none at all.

Cleo: So sit down and help me eat all of this. If it isn't enough, I'm happy to make more.

Cleo: I've lived alone for so very long, and cooking for others is a simple pleasure I have very much missed.

Cleo: Are we agreed?

Euden: We are indeed. And you heard her, everyone—dig in!

Ranzal: Hooo-eee! Let's get this party started!

Elisanne: Just don't get ahead of yourself and eat the guest of honor's portion, yes?

Euden: If that happens, we'll just all go cook more together.

Euden: *chomp* Cleo, you HAVE TO try this.

Cleo: As you wish, Euden.

Episode 5

A Promise

Euden: Hello, Cleo. What are you doing out here? Er, wait. Isn't that...?

Cleo: Apologies. I thought I'd take one last look at his portrait before I disposed of it.

Cleo: I imagine having a servant keep a portrait of her former master must feel...odd.

Euden: Cleo, there's no need to throw it out. I WANT you to have it.

Cleo: You don't mind?

Euden: Why would I mind? I know you have fond memories of Alberius—you should feel free to cherish them.

Cleo: You are too kind, Euden.

Cleo: Speaking of Alberius, you had a great number of questions about him earlier. Are you still curious?

Euden: Very. But I don't want to pry, so if you don't feel like talking, that's fine.

Cleo: No, it's all right. As it happens, I'm feeling rather nostalgic at the moment.

Cleo: Alberius was...a brave man. And a good one.

Cleo: He couldn't bear to see injustice go unchallenged. This spared many from suffering, but also added to his own.

Cleo: He always smiled when he ate my cooking.

Cleo: My time with him was suffused with warmth and happiness. It was...precious.

Cleo: As the years passed, those memories passed into the mist and became...pale. Distant. But after you arrived, they sprung back into full vibrancy.

Euden: Because I dispelled the mist?

Cleo: In part. Though it's also because of the resemblance you bear to him.

Euden: Hearing that makes me uncomfortable. I have a long way to go before I can be compared to Alberius the Founder.

Cleo: It's true you lack experience as a ruler.

Cleo: But I speak of something that runs deeper.

Cleo: Something in the contours of your soul, for lack of a better phrase.

Cleo: But it's also something in your words, because he told me the same thing that you did not so long ago.

Euden: What was that?

Cleo: That he wanted us to stand as equals. As...friends.

Cleo: Back then, I was rather insistent on my role as servant.

Cleo: And yet his words filled me with joy all the same.

Cleo: But I was never able to communicate that to him—or to thank him for his kindness. In the end, he simply left the castle one day and never returned.

Euden: I'm sorry to hear that, Cleo.

Cleo: I'll not make the same mistake anew.

Cleo: Thank you. Thank you for telling me that you wish to be my friend.

Cleo: No matter how fondly I look back on my time with Alberius, those days are gone.

Cleo: And I do not wish to live alongside regret any longer—so this is my promise to you.

Cleo: I will stand at your side and offer you all the support a friend can.

Euden: Then I'll make you a promise as well.

Euden: I will become a man worthy of Alberius's great legacy.

Euden: Thank you for everything you do, Cleo. I'm glad we're in this together.
