Episode 1

I'm Not Little Anymore!

Lowen and Louise, brother and sister of the wind, are the latest to join the ranks of the Halidom. Time to get changed, Lowen. I stayed up all night sewing you these new clothes. Um, okay. Thanks. Lowen's older sister had always done her best to raise him with care. And yet... We're going to be living separately from now on, but I still want you to keep a good head on your shoulders, okay? Don't worry, Sis. I'll be a total adult, and I'll do it for you! The decision has been made for Lowen to live an independent life separate from his sister. However... Lowen, I've folded your laundry for you. I'll just put it here. You did my laundry again? It's quite all right—I was already doing the rest of the wash anyway. Er, but doesn't everyone else help out with the chores around here? I suppose the proper adults do, yes. Then I should too! Heh. There's no need to worry about it. Ah, I just remembered that today's afternoon snack is apple pie. You like pie, yes? When you're ready, wash your hands and come to the dining hall. Um...thanks? Lucaaa! ...He's not here either?! Honestly, where HAS he run off to? Luca? He went to the woods, I think. Do you need something? I TOLD him we were going out to cull fiends today! We don't have enough people without him. Just what are we supposed to do now? Oh! Oh! Let me come! Er...you? Is that a no? It sounds like a no. You don't think I'm strong enough, huh? Perish the thought, Lowen. I'm merely worried, is all. You're still so young and cute, and... Ahem! Yes, well, there's no need for you to rush onto the battlefield. Please wait in the castle. ...... Ugh. What's even the point of me having separated from my sister? Everything okay, Lowen? You look down. Everyone keeps treating me like their baby brother, and I'm sick of it! I started living in a separate room from my sister because I wanted to get away from all that, but nothing's changed! I'm never gonna be able to become an adult like this. Hmm. I see. Take it easy, kid, yeah? Bein' an adult ain't nothin' ya wanna rush into—trust the old man on this one. Yer gonna be grown up before ya know it— and probably before ya want to, if I'm bein' totally honest. So for now, just kick back and enjoy lettin' everybody spoil ya. No! I want to change! I want to become an adult that my sister and everyone else can rely on! And I want to help protect people the way everyone else does. That's a fine goal. Hey, Lowen! I wanna bend yer ear a sec about all that growin' up business. What kinda adult do ya even wanna be? Hmm... That's a good question. Well, I guess I wanna be able to do everything myself. Oh, but still be nice. And strong! And big. Oh, and— Hold up a tick, kid. Ya wanna be ripped? Then yer talkin' to the right guy! I'll let ya in on a secret method I keep in the back'a my head for just this kinda thing. A...secret method? Ka-pow! Feast yer eyeballs on this here table! Whoooa... Soooo much foooood... Um, Ranzal? Please tell me you're not going to eat all of that. Not just me—the kid's gonna help pack all this away! Ya wanna be big and strong like Ranzal, yeah? WHO WANTS THAT?! WHO WANTS TO BE BIG AND STRONG?! YOU DO! W-well, yeah, but...this is a lot of food. *sigh* Don't listen to him, Lowen. He just wants an excuse to stuff his face like he always does. Hey, that ain't even remotely true! I'm looking out for the kid here. Well, SOMEONE needs to eat this before it gets cold. C'mon, kid! Today...we FEAST! All right, food! I got a nice bit of stomach real estate with your name on it! *chomp* *horf* *slarrrfffp* Holy cow! I've never SEEN someone eat so fast. It's almost hypnotic... Er, I mean, I better start eating, and fast! Lowen? I just want to point out that there are many large, fit adults in the world aside from Ranzal. You don't necessarily have to go about bulking up in the same way he does. Indeed, who's to say that such a physique is even appropriate for you? But Ranzal's an adult, and he's REALLY strong! He's everything I'm not, you know? If you ask me, you possess any number of fine qualities that Ranzal lacks. She's right. True adults grow by building on their own strengths, not by pushing themselves to be something they aren't. Yeah, but I dunno what my own strengths even ARE. But I do know I wanna be able to do anything—and also be super ripped just like Ranzal. So now I'm gonna EAT like he does, too! Well, if you've made up your mind, I won't stop you. Oh and there's plenty more where that came from, so have all you like. Thanks, Cleo! Zzzzzz... Sandwiches... Get up, you massive sack of suet! We have cleaning to do. C'mon, Ranzal! It's gonna be a pain for everyone else if you just eat and pass out like that! Zzzzz... Honey-baked ham... Um...Ranzal? Lowen? I want you to promise me that you won't grow into an adult like...him. Oh man. Ranzal seems really cool, but I guess he's also kinda uncool in some ways, huh? I'm gonna have to think a little more about what strengths I really want to have. Zzzz... Ha ha! Did Ranzal really get Lowen to eat until he passed out? Indeed—though he at least kept it together long enough to help with the cleaning. He even took on Ranzal's share of the work, so I imagine he's exhausted. He may be young, but he has quite the head on his shoulders. And compared to THIS one... Zzzzzz... Gravy boats... *sigh* How can two sleeping faces look so different from each other? Unlike Ranzal, being adorable is certainly one of Lowen's strengths. I think I can appreciate how Louise feels about him. Eat lots, sleep more, see the world, and learn at every step. Grow big and strong, Lowen. Zzzz...

Episode 3

Admiration

What do you think of THIS?! You've gotten really good, Lowen. I'm impressed. It's all thanks to your training. I'm strong enough to take on any enemies that come my way now! I'm not afraid of anything anymore. Not afraid...of anything... Oh man, I've gotta go to the bathroom. And I've come this far, but... Aaaugh! I can't do this on my own! Wait, no... I'm strong now! You can do this, Lowen. You can do this! Okay, here I go! Uh oh. Where's this? Am I...lost? AAAUUGH! Wait, no. That's just the wind. Stupid wind! That's not nice! Wait, footsteps? At this hour? Must...feed... Wh-what was that voice?! Muuust...feeeeed! I sure hope that isn't talking about me... Okay, this is all super weird, but I don't have a choice... I have to fight! GWAAAAAH! AAAAAAAAAAAGH! Wait. RANZAL? So...hungry... Must...feed... Oh my gosh. He's SLEEPWALKING. Haaaaaam... Piiiiiie... Okay, he's gone now. Boy, I sure hope he doesn't catch a cold. He gave me a heck of a shock, though. Glad he wasn't some kind of monster. ...Huh? I can hear footsteps again. Is that you, Ranzal? Wait, that's not Ranzal. But then, who IS it? A fiend? A ghost? How should I attack it? ...H-hey! You! Stop right there! Eeeek! I can't take it any moooore! Er, Lowen? Euden?! Yes, it's me. I heard someone yelling out here and came to see what was going on. What're you doing out here at this hour? Ummmmm... Were you scared of something? I...um...had to use the bathroom. Uh oh. Did you get lost? You know what? Never mind. Let me just take you there right now. Thank you. You're welcome. Honestly, I'm glad I made it in time. Yeah. But still, I can't believe I couldn't even go to the bathroom by myself... I thought I was stronger, but I'm still just as weak as ever. That's not true at all, Lowen. You're absolutely getting stronger. But strength comes in many forms. Such as the strength to fight, or the strength to not give in to our fears. And I think it's good for a person to learn many different strengths. Is that what you did? You bet. No one just starts out not being afraid of anything, after all. So you should just work hard and get stronger a little bit at a time. If you do that, the number of things that frighten you will decrease, and you'll be able to protect the people you love. You know what? You can leave me here. I think I'm gonna be fine. Episode 4

Growing Pains

Hooo boy! I'm really tired. You trained pretty hard today, Lowen. Make sure to wipe off all your sweat so you don't catch cold. Now then, are you hungry? Now that you mention it, I might be a little hungry—but I think I'd like to try and make something myself. No, don't trouble yourself. Stay here and I'll whip something up. (It's happening slowly, but everyone is starting to rely on me more—except for Cleo, that is. At this rate, I'll never get her to stop treating me like a baby brother. I have to get her to recognize that I've grown, but how do I DO that?) Aha! Cleo! Cleeeo! Did you already start making the food? I was just about to get started. Is something the matter? No! I just need you to let me take care of it. But... Take a load off, Cleo! Rest those dogs! I've got lunch handled today. Come oooon! You gotta trust me with this stuff sometime! V-very well. All right! Lemme start by whipping up some soup. I think I remember Louise's recipe pretty well... So I cut the potatoes liiiike...this, right? Curl your fingers! CURL YOUR FINGERS! You'll lop them off otherwise! Right! Curled fingers, okay. Now then, everything is diced up, so we throw the veggies into the boiling water. Oh man, that water's hot! And there's steam everywhere. Maybe I'll just stand way back here and toss the veggies into— You will most certainly NOT do that! The boiling water could splash out and scald the flesh right off your bones! I, uh, don't know if it's THAT hot, but sure. Lemme just drop them in real gently... Yeowch! Hot! Be careful, for the love of the goddess! (He's going to kill himself right in my own kitchen. Someone save me...) Ta-daaah! Soup's up! You finished, but... Urgh... I feel dizzy... Are you okay, Cleo? You look completely exhausted! I think...I may have worried about you overmuch... Oh. I'm sorry. This is all my fault. I just wanted to help you out, Cleo. Then you could see how much I've grown and maybe you'd— I know, Lowen. It's all right. But I made you totally exhausted because I was so wrapped up in myself. I'm really sorry. Come now, chin up. Accepting the ways in which we might be wanting is all part of maturing. Heh. I guess I'm still pretty uncool, huh? I thought I had everything figured out, but I just ended up making trouble for you. Even grown-ups have their flaws, Lowen. We make unsound decisions, panic, and let our emotions get the best of us. We're often more like children than children in that respect. But the difference is that we recognize our mistakes and fight through them. Becoming an adult doesn't mean that your problems all suddenly disappear. Still, I imagine none of this will dissuade you from attempting to grow up as fast as you possibly can. Not really, no. I wanna become a strong adult who can protect the people that are important to him. Heh. But you're plenty strong enough already, Lowen. Er, but weren't you just super worried about how I'd kill myself while making a pot of soup? You're able to pursue your aspirations with genuine fervor. And that comes from your own strength. Nothing else. So I have strength even though I'm still growing up? Hmm... Hey, Cleo? Do you think it's possible to be an adult AND a little brother? The only person who can answer that question is you, Lowen. But before we continue this conversation, let's try your soup. I'm simply famished. Oh, and now that you've proven yourself in my kitchen, I'll be assigning you meal prep duties. I assume you're all right with this arrangement? Of course! Er, but there might still be SOME things I can't do. But I know you'll teach me how to do 'em when the time comes, right, Cleo?!

Always a Little Brother

So I think I have to leave the Halidom for a bit, Prince Euden. Oh? Where are you headed? I'm going to visit my mother's grave. I see. Is Louise coming? No. We used to go together every year, but I decided to go on my own this time. Hmm. I imagine you might run into fiends on the way. How about I come with you? Can you let me go on my own? Please? Louise said it was okay and everything! It's a great chance for me to see if my training has been paying off. Don't worry! I'll be back home safe and sound before anyone even knows I'm gone. Well, if you're decided, I won't stop you. Be safe, Lowen. I will! Byeeee! Oh man, I don't feel like things took quite this long when I came here with Louise. I think I'm lost—and that isn't good at ALL. Maybe I should go back... Wait, no! I can't! I have to get stronger! The prince would never turn back! Think, Lowen! Okay, at a time like this, Ranzal would tell a really funny joke or something to lighten the mood. AAAUGH! Those bushes MOOOOVED! Wh-who's there?! ...Oh, it's just a little bird. Aw, it's hurt! I don't think it can fly right now. But if it stays here, some fiend is gonna find it and eat it for a snack! GRRRR! Eek! Th-that was... RRRRAAAAAARRRGH! (It's a fiend! And man, is it ever BIG... I can still get away if I go now, but I'd have to leave that little bird behind. Louise never ran away when she had to protect me. No matter how badly she was hurt, she always stuck it out. And if I want to become an adult who can protect people like she did... I don't have a choice!) Hey, you stupid fiend! If you're gonna fight someone, have a piece of ME! I'm way braver than you—my sister taught me that! And the prince taught me how to fight! I'm strong now, and I'm not gonna lose. SO COME AT ME, BRO! YAAAAAAAH! GRAAAAAAAGH! I'm worried about Lowen—I do hope that he's all right. It's only been three days since he set off, yeah? Ain't no reason to panic yet. Three days is already far longer than such a trip should take. I TOLD ya, yer worrying too much! Have a little faith in the kid already. I agree. We need to believe in Lowen. Hey, everybody! I'm baaaack! Lowen! You're all right! We were so worried about you. Heh. I figured as much. But hey, I did it, right?! That's very admirable of you. Thanks! Oh, and I also realized something on this trip. Until now, I thought that if I was still a little brother, I couldn't be an adult. But I was wrong. Even if I separate from my sister and become independent, it won't change the fact I'm her little bro. In fact, that's the whole reason I want to be strong in the first place! That's very wise of you. I guess even little brothers can get strong, huh? They certainly can. And furthermore, you and Louise have an exceptionally powerful bond. That bond drives both of you to be the best people you can be. Hey, that's right! ...Although I didn't do this ALL just for her. I did it for you guys as well, because you've all helped me out so much. Even though we were apart, we were still connected. I was never really alone. That is a fascinating way to look at it. I think I understand. I've often had times where the face of someone I care about has come to me in a time of crisis. Oh man, this kid is blowin' my MIND right now. Hee hee! Yeah, but I still have a long way to go. So I'm gonna bust my butt to become an even cooler adult! Er, along with all of you, of course. That sounds like a plan. Oh, by the way, I brought back some meat from my trip. How about I try cooking it up into something we can all enjoy? Are you certain that's a good idea?
