Episode 1

A Treasure Hunter

Renelle: Hey there. You in need of a treasure hunter's services?

Ranzal: Is that what ya are, little lady? Ha!

Ranzal: But hey, sure. Come aboard!

Renelle: Great. Now, before I—as you so charmingly put it—"come aboard," might I ask you one thing?

Ranzal: Course. What's on yer mind?

Renelle: Did you just call me "little lady"?

Ranzal: Uh...guess I did, yeah. That a problem?

Renelle: Let me just make one thing clear, so that it doesn't BECOME a problem.

Renelle: Call me that again, or anything like it, and I'll add your head to my collection. M'kay?

Ranzal: ...Right. I'll keep that in mind. Just go easy if it ever slips out, yeah?

Euden: Something wrong, Ranzal? Is she looking to join up with us?

Renelle: Indeed. Word on the street is you and your gang are traveling all over the continent.

Renelle: That sounds like a golden opportunity to scrounge up some sweet, sweet treasure! So then, what's your story?

Euden: I'm Euden, and I suppose I'm the leader here.

Renelle: Got it. So the big slab of meat there is your hired hand?

Euden: Not exactly. We're friends, and allies. We've fought side by side through many a battle.

Renelle: Great. You can give this back to him for me then.

Euden: Huh? What's... Is this his coin purse?!

Ranzal: What? That IS my coin purse! When did I drop it?

Renelle: Your man there's hopeless. Dropped his guard the moment he saw I was a woman.

Renelle: Not sure I'd trust him with my life in a fight. But hey, what do I know?

Euden: I'm sure he didn't intend any offense.

Euden: Allow me to apologize as well. I hope you won't hold it against us?

Euden: If we're to work together, I'd prefer us all to be friends.

Ranzal: Yer lettin' sticky fingers there into the castle, Euden?

Euden: She's clearly quite talented.

Euden: We all have our quirks, Ranzal, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

Ranzal: Well, so long as yer sure...

Renelle: I'm glad SOMEONE here gets it.

Euden: I have one condition, Renelle: you have to get along with everyone.

Renelle: Ha! Better tell the big fella that.

Renelle: I don't care who he chats up, so long as it isn't me.

Renelle: Any guy who takes me lightly ends up regretting it. I just wanted to give him fair warning.

Episode 2

Wanna Team Up?

Renelle: So, Cleo. What's up with you and Ranzal? Is he your partner?

Cleo: Ranzal? My partner? Absolutely not. He's merely an ally.

Renelle: Is there a difference?

Renelle: See, for me, my older twin brother was my partner.

Cleo: So the two of you would go looking for treasure together?

Renelle: That's "hunting" treasure—but yeah.

Renelle: When you're hungry, you don't "look" for animals; you hunt. Same thing with us and ruins. It's a serious profession.

Cleo: Some might call it grave robbing.

Renelle: It's not doing those old bones any good. You ever seen a dead man go shopping?

Cleo: ...There is a brutal logic to that, I'll admit.

Renelle: So, wanna team up? We can split the loot fifty-fifty.

Cleo: Do you really believe I have that sort of free time? I'm quite busy, you know.

Cleo: Besides, I thought you already had a partner.

Renelle: Yeah. "Had." These days, my brother's the ringleader of a big ol' band of thieves.

Cleo: The sort who steal from the living, you mean?

Renelle: I don't ask, and he doesn't tell.

Renelle: But he'd gotten better than me with a lockpick by the end. Better with traps, too.

Renelle: I'm sure he's a fine leader.

Ranzal: Hey, hands off our Cleo, little lady!

Renelle: What did you just call me?!

Ranzal: Save it. Stop tryin' to lure my friends to the dark side! Don't make me get Euden.

Renelle: Treasure hunting is NOT "the dark side," you dumb bear!

Renelle: ...I see what this is. You want a fight? Fine by me. Let's take this outside!

Ranzal: Wait, treasure what now? I thought ya were tryin' to get her to join a band'a thieves!

Cleo: Yes, because you stumbled into the conversation halfway through.

Renelle: And he thinks I'm the kind of person who'd try to drag you into a life of crime... Tch, talk about insulting.

Ranzal: Uhh, Renelle?! Why are ya drawin' yer sword?! Let's just cool off for a second!

Cleo: Do you mind if I take some time to consider your offer, Renelle?

Renelle: Ooh, you'll think about it?! Sure! Take all the time you need!

Ranzal: A little help here, Cleo?!

Cleo: It's your own fault for leaping to conclusions.

Cleo: You shall have to resolve this on your own. Apologize, or simply let her stab you some.

Renelle: Well said, partner!

Cleo: I'm no one's partner just yet.

Renelle: So, big guy... How do you wanna do this?

Ranzal: I-I'm sorry! Seriously, I'm sorry! W-wait! RENELLE, WAIT!

Episode 3

Her Last Partner

Cleo: Perhaps you'd care to explain all this?

Renelle: Don't even worry about it!

Renelle: Eat, eat! And if this isn't enough, keep the orders coming!

Renelle: So, you have a chance to think over my offer yet?

Cleo: To become your partner?

Cleo: I suppose I would need to hear what it would entail in a bit more detail first.

Renelle: Sure, I can— Hold that thought. We're gonna need more meat. I'll put in the order. What are you drinking?

Cleo: Water is fine, thank you.

Renelle: But yeah, what's the concern? Worried you don't have the right skills?

Renelle: That's no problem! I taught my brother from the ground up, too.

Renelle: Just between us, I think you'll pick it up even faster than he did.

Cleo: This is the brother who leads an entire band of thieves?

Renelle: That's him. And I taught him all he knows.

Renelle: ...Does it bother you? My brother being a thief, I mean.

Cleo: I think I had better hear the story, at least.

Cleo: Leading a band of thieves isn't exactly the sort of thing you just stumble into.

Renelle: He was always serious growing up. Real straitlaced. Model student.

Renelle: I was the complete opposite. Quickest way to get me to do anything was to tell me I shouldn't.

Renelle: I picked up lock picking and setting traps along the way.

Renelle: Every time I'd pull some stunt, it would be another chorus of "Why can't you be more like your brother?"

Cleo: You sound like quite the mismatched twins.

Renelle: Yeah, but we were always close.

Renelle: I'd show off whatever new thing I'd learned, and he'd listen with a smile.

Cleo: How did the model student come to take up thieving?

Renelle: I got tossed in the town jail one day for allegedly getting the mayor hurt.

Renelle: Which never happened, by the way!

Renelle: I told them I was innocent, but considering the source, well... You can imagine how much they believed me.

Renelle: But my brother did.

Renelle: So he snuck into the jail that night and sprang me.

Cleo: He what?

Renelle: He broke me out! Jimmied the cell door right open. One of my little tricks.

Renelle: I told you he was a model student; he remembered everything I'd shown him.

Cleo: I imagine the two of you had to leave town?

Renelle: Yup. That's when we started treasure- hunting to pay for our meals.

Renelle: It worked great, until it didn't. We hit a long dry spell.

Renelle: We still needed to eat, though— so he found another use for his skills.

Cleo: Hunting for treasure in the pockets of passersby.

Cleo: ...You didn't think to join him?

Renelle: Nah. Even if it means slim living, I like plying my trade the old honest way. I take pride in being a treasure hunter.

Renelle: ...That was never his dream, though.

Renelle: And if not for me, I can't imagine he'd have wound up in the life he did.

Cleo: Renelle, you can't—

Renelle: So how amazing does this meal look?!

Renelle: I'm gonna eat my weight in meat or pass out trying. Let's dig in!

Episode 4

Regrets

Euden: Any luck convincing Cleo to become your partner, Renelle?

Renelle: Oh, I gave up on that.

Renelle: I could feel us starting to become friends.

Euden: Isn't that a good thing?

Renelle: Not if you're me.

Renelle: I take my friendships seriously. I'm all in.

Renelle: But my brother's got himself a whole bandit empire.

Renelle: If I stick around here, who can say we don't wind up enemies?

Renelle: I'm not dragging Cleo into the middle of that. No way.

Euden: I see... If your paths were to cross in the future—you and your brother—what would you do?

Renelle: ...I don't know.

Renelle: I've actually had the feeling lately that I won't ever see him again. That he's already dead.

Euden: I do hear news of some of the larger bandit clans at times.

Euden: ...A few HAVE been wiped out.

Euden: Do you regret it? Bringing your brother into the treasure-hunting life with you?

Renelle: Pff, what DON'T I regret? Everybody would be better off if I'd never been born.

Renelle: It's just a mess from top to bottom.

Renelle: If I'd been a half-decent kid, I never would've been thrown in jail over what happened to the mayor.

Renelle: And then I wouldn't have needed to be sprung OUT of jail by my poor brother.

Renelle: I never should have shown him how to do any of that stuff in the first place.

Renelle: ...He must hate me. He SHOULD. I ruined his life.

Euden: I don't think that's true, Renelle.

Renelle: Then what did?

Euden: The moment someone lays aside their convictions, they lose part of themselves.

Euden: He believed in your innocence, so he followed those convictions and acted.

Euden: Wherever that choice led him afterward, I'm sure he never regretted making it.

Euden: I know I wouldn't.

Renelle: ...You know? I think I can finally believe that.

Euden: "Finally"?

Renelle: He always said the exact same thing when I'd apologize. I figured he was just saying it to make me feel better.

Renelle: So thank you, Euden.

Episode 5

Put 'Er There, Partner

Ranzal: Renelle! Renelle, ya here?! HEY, TREASURE HUNTER!

Renelle: Ranzal? What? Where's the fire?

Euden: The bandit army that's been ravagin' the north is sendin' envoys to every nation on the continent, and ours just arrived.

Renelle: Bandit armies send envoys?

Euden: The biggest one in Grastaea does. They've swallowed up seven other major bands in the last few years.

Ranzal: And get this: their leader's your age.

Renelle: Don't tell me...

Euden: They're offering to cease all criminal activity if we allow them to cultivate the land in the northern wastes.

Renelle: What, to build farms or something?

Euden: Many were farmers before drought and famine drove them to thieving. And they have other tradespeople within their ranks.

Euden: Farms are just the start. They could eventually build a nation.

Ranzal: I don't like lettin' 'em off after all they've done, but I guess a nation of farmers is better than an army'a thieves.

Ranzal: Anyway, that's the story. They're gatherin' reps for a summit to hash out the details.

Ranzal: We're sendin' Euden and me. Oh, and yer comin', too.

Renelle: Me? Why me?

Euden: Your presence was requested by name. You're his sister, aren't you?

Renelle: Y-yeah, but... This is crazy. I feel like I'm dreaming.

Ranzal: Well, rise and shine, little lady, 'cause we got us a meetin' to get to!

Renelle: Right! Yes, I'm coming!

Renelle: ...Wait, what did you just call me?!

Ranzal: Oh man, what'd I say this time?

Renelle: I told you the next time you called me "little lady," I'd have your head as a souvenir!

Ranzal: Gah, sorry! Slip of the tongue! I didn't mean it! Won't happen again!

Renelle: Hmmm...

Renelle: Sounds like you need a little reminder to watch your mouth, Ranzal.

Ranzal: Whoa, whoa—she's got her sword out again!

Euden: Easy, Renelle. He didn't mean to offend you. Try to forgive him.

Renelle: ...Fine. If that's what my partner wants.

Ranzal: ...That's it? She just...backed down?

Ranzal: Wait a second—"partner"? Since when are you and Euden partners?

Euden: First I'm hearing of it as well.

Renelle: Euden's the one worthy of the spot.

Renelle: I mean, I want Euden to take it.

Renelle: I can't imagine anybody BUT Euden!

Renelle: So please say you'll do it!

Euden: Tough to say no after all that. If you'll have me, I'd be delighted. Partner.

Renelle: Yesss! Ahh, this is the start of something TRULY beautiful!
