Adventurer Story Episodes

Episode 1

Ultimate Beauty

Euden: Is that everything? I think we've bought all we need.

Ranzal: Plus this small mountain'a groceries!

Ranzal: This much should serve everybody for a week. ...Or me for tonight.

Cleo: Watching you carry all that is making me nervous. It's piled so high, you can't even see where you're walking.

Ranzal: Bwa ha ha! Don't worry about me—I got these streets memorized back to front.

Ranzal: I could get home with my eyes cl—

Zardin: Oof?!

Cleo: You were saying?

Cleo: I'm terribly sorry, sir. Are you all right? I'll see this walking bicep is disciplined.

Zardin: It will take more than a mere apology to right this wrong, my good woman!

Zardin: Just look what you've done to me!

Ranzal: Ah geez, I'm really sorry, buddy. You break somethin'?! I'll call ya a—

Zardin: It is far worse than breaking a silly bone. Look what you've done to my HAIR!

Ranzal: Your...

Cleo: ...Hair?

Zardin: Yes, my hair. The radiant locks located directly above my perfect face?

Zardin: My bangs—which frame said perfection— are COMPLETELY out of place!

Euden: Er, sorry. You injured your...bangs?

Zardin: Just look at my reflection!

Zardin: My perfectly sculpted hair is utterly... Oh. Oh, MY. Even with tousled hair, I look absolutely stunning!

Zardin: It just needs a little... There we are!

Zardin: Back to beautiful, just as I was before THE INCIDENT. Even more beautiful, in fact!

Zardin: Dear me. In fixing my hair, I've gone and ascended to a higher plane of beauty.

Zardin: Ahh, it's too striking! My reflection is dangerously stunning!

Cleo: I don't see a difference.

Ranzal: Uh...buddy?

Ranzal: Seems like you're okay there, so we're gonna go ahead and take off.

Zardin: Halt, cretin! You disheveled my hair!

Zardin: That's a capital offense, and I demand satisfaction this instant!

Ranzal: Wait, ya mean a duel? ...With ME?! Buddy, yer nuts!

Cleo: Someone's being unreasonable, and it ISN'T Ranzal. How very novel.

Zardin: I will brook no debate on the subject. Have at you!

Zardin: ...Ahh! That was close.

Zardin: The wind nearly knocked my hair back out of place.

Ranzal: Hey, Euden? Mind if I end this so we can get goin'?

Euden: I think that may be for the best.

Ranzal: Right. Think fast, pal!

Zardin: WAUGH?!

Ranzal: I'm gonna call that a victory. Take care now, yeah?

Zardin: MY HAIR! You've ruined it again—AND you put M-M-MUD on my perfect face!

Zardin: Get back here this instant, you cur! I shall hound you to the ends of the earth until I receive suitable satisfaction!

Zardin: Come baaack!

Episode 2

The Smiling Duo

Zardin: You there! Euden! I demand to know where Ranzal is this very instant!

Euden: Er, sorry. Were you talking to me?

Euden: It's hard to tell sometimes when you're staring into that mirror.

Zardin: Hence the reason I called your name. Now, where is that uncouth rogue?

Zardin: I demand satisfaction!

Euden: You still haven't looked up from the mirror.

Euden: Are you SURE you want to duel with Ranzal? Because you don't actually seem all that interested in it.

Zardin: Simply stunning... I may be even more beautiful today than I was yesterday.

Euden: Oh, you're a real looker, all right. Now how about we forget all this nonsense and go have some lunch?

Euden: C'mon, it's time to eat.

Zardin: ...My word! This is absolutely delicious!

Zardin: I demand to know who is responsible for this meal!

Cleo: That would be me.

Zardin: What a splendid array of flavors! Truly marvelous.

Zardin: And speaking of marvels...

Zardin: Even while eating, I continue to be the very picture of angelic beauty!

Zardin: Hmm... Perhaps it's actually...adorable? Charming? Oh, but it's so hard to say.

Cleo: How can he eat AND talk while looking at that mirror?

Euden: I caught him staring at it during combat the other day.

Euden: It's almost impressive.

Cleo: I must say, I've never seen someone lose a duel because they were too busy preening.

Zardin: Hah! I could have easily defeated Ranzal had I not been distracted by the mirror.

Zardin: Yet mine is a face that refuses to be ignored. Truly, such transcendent beauty is more curse than blessing!

Zardin: And I bear it with SUCH uncommon grace.

Euden: I'm surprised you don't just polish your sword to a mirror shine and use that.

Euden: Eh, sorry. That was uncalled fo—

Zardin: That's IT!

Zardin: You're brilliant, Euden! An absolute genius!

Euden: Er...it was a joke.

Zardin: Euden, you may be the first person to truly understand my beauty.

Zardin: ...Hmm? Hold a moment. Now that I look closer, you're rather handsome yourself.

Zardin: It must be fate that's seen our paths cross. How blessed by fortune am I!

Zardin: Let the world take heed: as of today, we are officially partners in perfection. The Face Twins, they shall call us!

Zardin: You're obviously thrilled, I'm sure?

Euden: I politely—but VERY firmly—decline.

Zardin: Aha ha ha! There's no need to be bashful, my brother in beauty!

Zardin: Cheers, then! To our pulchritudinous partnership!

Episode 3

The Mirror Wielder's Artiface

Ruffian A: GYAAAARGH!

Zardin: Ah, I may be more beautiful today than ever before!

Zardin: Don't you think, Euden?

Euden: This REALLY isn't the time!

Euden: Look out! Behind you!

Ruffian A: Oi! Ya mocking me, dandy?! DIE!

Zardin: Well, THAT won't do.

Euden: He dodged?! But...how?! He was completely distracted!

Zardin: Kindly keep your hideous reflection out of my precious mirror.

Zardin: HAAAH!

Zardin: Heh heh... I'm beautiful in victory, in a commanding sort of way.

Zardin: Don't you agree, Euden?

Euden: Wow. I've never heard of someone using a mirror to eliminate their blind spot.

Zardin: Yes! Yes! You understand the subtler qualities of my swordplay!

Zardin: Ah, Euden, you are truly a rare friend!

Euden: Ha ha...ha?

Zardin: You have inspired me!

Zardin: Behold, my most secret of techniques!

Ruffian B: Nice day for a friendly chat, innit? Too bad I gots to run ya thro—

Zardin: Hmm, hideous. Absolutely hideous. This ought to brighten up that dour complexion!

Ruffian B: COR BLIMEY! ME EYES!

Euden: He reflected the sun with his mirror...

Zardin: This ends now!

Euden: ...This is actually amazing.

Euden: He was staring at himself in the mirror the entire time but wiped them out anyway.

Zardin: Impressed, Euden?

Zardin: I'm more than a ridiculously beautiful face. My bladework is rather handsome too, no?

Euden: I can't speak for the beauty part, but I don't deny being impressed.

Zardin: Hmmm...

Euden: ...Why are you staring at me?

Zardin: You've keen eyes and discerning tastes, Euden.

Zardin: A far cry from all the other churls who mocked my fighting style in the past.

Zardin: I knew ours was a rare and precious partnership! Don't you think, partner mine?

Euden: Er... You know what? Sure. At this point, I'm not even going to fight it.

Episode 4

The Narcissist's Rage

Euden: Rgh... This one's strong!

Ranzal: It's gotta be the boss of all them fiends around here.

Ranzal: Good thing I like a challenge!

Zardin: *sigh*

Ranzal: Uh...ya okay there?

Ranzal: That sigh was pretty intense, even for you.

Zardin: Well. The boor speaks. And just whose fault do you think it is I'm IN this state?

Euden: Psst! Do you remember bumping into him when you dodged that attack a while back?

Euden: Apparently you broke his mirror.

Ranzal: Wait, what? Oh man, I'm real sorry 'bout that. It's just that when I start fightin' I—

Zardin: How is my hair? Is there dirt on my face? My sanity hangs by a gossamer thread!

Zardin: Someone bring me a shiny object! I'LL TAKE ANYTHING I CAN GET!

Cleo: I really don't think this is the time for that particular conversation, people!

Cleo: The fiend is bracing to attack!

Zardin: I can't be here right now. I have to get back to the castle and retrieve one of my spare mirro—

Euden: Zardin, LOOK OUT!

Zardin: Waugh!

Euden: ZARDIN!

Zardin: M-my face... This filthy fiend cut my FACE!

Zardin: A smudge of dirt or dust and I might have just killed you...but a CUT?!

Zardin: Prepare to suffer unimaginable pain, fiend!

Zardin: HAAAH! HRAAAH! YAAAAAAAH!

Euden: He's completely overwhelming it! By HIMSELF!

Ranzal: Whoa...

Ranzal: I had no idea the guy was that strong. ...I shoulda smashed his mirror ages ago.

Zardin: BEGONE!

Ranzal: That was amazin'! It's completely changed the way I see y—

Zardin: No one cares about any of that! NOW BRING ME A MIRROR!

Zardin: I have a CUT on my FACE!

Cleo: You're going to be all right. Here, have a look for yourself in this glass.

Cleo: A shallow nick like that will heal in no time, with nary a scar left behind.

Zardin: Y-you're certain?

Zardin: Oh, whew... This face is all I have left to remind me of Mother. If I—

Zardin: AHH?!

Euden: What's wrong?!

Zardin: This...this is unthinkable. My sweat-slick hair, my grit-stained cheek...

Zardin: They're absolutely stunning!

Zardin: I just fought a grueling battle, and I am GLOWING!

Zardin: Thank you, Ranzal! This is an incredible discovery, and it never would have happened if you hadn't broken my mirror!

Zardin: Thank you, you magnificent cretin!

Ranzal: Uh...sure? Don't really get it, but hey. What're friends for, yeah?

Episode 5

Who's That in the Mirror?

Zardin: Ah, back to my usual, radiant self!

Euden: I'm glad to hear it.

Euden: Cleo was right. Not a scar in sight.

Zardin: It's a huge relief.

Zardin: This face is the only connection I have left to my mother.

Euden: Your mother? How do you mean?

Zardin: Curious to hear about my past, mmm?

Zardin: Well, all right! You've twisted my arm, you devil, you!

Euden: I really haven't.

Zardin: My father was apparently the lord of a sizable region.

Zardin: That is, until he was taken in by a con man and lost a colossal sum. He was hit hard, and his people even harder.

Zardin: They rose up and killed him just before I was born.

Euden: Zardin, I'm so sorry.

Zardin: When I was born, Mother took me to live in the forest on the outskirts of the city.

Zardin: She put all she had into raising me there.

Zardin: She would leave for the city at dawn to work and come home ragged at sundown.

Zardin: Even so, the smile never left her lips.

Zardin: It was a humble life, but we were happy.

Zardin: But one day, a sudden illness claimed her.

Zardin: It left me all alone.

Euden: You've been through quite a lot.

Zardin: Shortly before her death, my mother said something that nearly broke my heart:

Zardin: "I'm sorry you were born to such a mother.

Zardin: "But I want you to live strong and proud. That is my last and only wish."

Zardin: Ever since, I've struggled and strived.

Zardin: I gained the strength and skill I needed to make it on my own in this world.

Zardin: ...But it was terribly lonely.

Zardin: There was a time I nearly gave it all up to go and join my parents.

Zardin: But then I noticed my reflection in the mirror.

Zardin: And there was Mother, looking back at me. I looked just like her.

Zardin: It gave me the strength to keep going— that day, and for many after.

Zardin: Whenever I see my face, the loneliness all dissolves away and I'm filled with energy and drive.

Euden: You know, I think I get it.

Euden: Your face has gotten you through hard times.

Zardin: Yes... It was very important to me.

Euden: "Was"? It isn't now?

Zardin: I've noticed my reflection looks different lately. ...Happier.

Zardin: Still striking and gorgeous and all the rest, mind you, but the smile is softer now.

Zardin: And I have you all to thank for that.

Zardin: Just between us, I like this new face better.

Zardin: So I plan to stick around.

Zardin: How could I leave when my partner in perfection is here?

Euden: I'm happy to hear it, Zardin. Partners it is!
