Episode 1

A Treasure Hunter

Hey there. You in need of a treasure hunter's services? Is that what ya are, little lady? Ha! But hey, sure. Come aboard! Great. Now, before I—as you so charmingly put it—＂come aboard,＂ might I ask you one thing? Course. What's on yer mind? Did you just call me ＂little lady＂? Uh...guess I did, yeah. That a problem? Let me just make one thing clear, so that it doesn't BECOME a problem. Call me that again, or anything like it, and I'll add your head to my collection. M'kay? ...Right. I'll keep that in mind. Just go easy if it ever slips out, yeah? Something wrong, Ranzal? Is she looking to join up with us? Indeed. Word on the street is you and your gang are traveling all over the continent. That sounds like a golden opportunity to scrounge up some sweet, sweet treasure! So then, what's your story? I'm Euden, and I suppose I'm the leader here. Got it. So the big slab of meat there is your hired hand? Not exactly. We're friends, and allies. We've fought side by side through many a battle. Great. You can give this back to him for me then. Huh? What's... Is this his coin purse?! What? That IS my coin purse! When did I drop it? Your man there's hopeless. Dropped his guard the moment he saw I was a woman. Not sure I'd trust him with my life in a fight. But hey, what do I know? I'm sure he didn't intend any offense. Allow me to apologize as well. I hope you won't hold it against us? If we're to work together, I'd prefer us all to be friends. Yer lettin' sticky fingers there into the castle, Euden? She's clearly quite talented. We all have our quirks, Ranzal, but I'm sure it'll be fine. Well, so long as yer sure... I'm glad SOMEONE here gets it. I have one condition, Renelle: you have to get along with everyone. Ha! Better tell the big fella that. I don't care who he chats up, so long as it isn't me. Any guy who takes me lightly ends up regretting it. I just wanted to give him fair warning.

Episode 2

Wanna Team Up?

So, Cleo. What's up with you and Ranzal? Is he your partner? Ranzal? My partner? Absolutely not. He's merely an ally. Is there a difference? See, for me, my older twin brother was my partner. So the two of you would go looking for treasure together? That's ＂hunting＂ treasure—but yeah. When you're hungry, you don't ＂look＂ for animals; you hunt. Same thing with us and ruins. It's a serious profession. Some might call it grave robbing. It's not doing those old bones any good. You ever seen a dead man go shopping? ...There is a brutal logic to that, I'll admit. So, wanna team up? We can split the loot fifty-fifty. Do you really believe I have that sort of free time? I'm quite busy, you know. Besides, I thought you already had a partner. Yeah. ＂Had.＂ These days, my brother's the ringleader of a big ol' band of thieves. The sort who steal from the living, you mean? I don't ask, and he doesn't tell. But he'd gotten better than me with a lockpick by the end. Better with traps, too. I'm sure he's a fine leader. Hey, hands off our Cleo, little lady! What did you just call me?! Save it. Stop tryin' to lure my friends to the dark side! Don't make me get Euden. Treasure hunting is NOT ＂the dark side,＂ you dumb bear! ...I see what this is. You want a fight? Fine by me. Let's take this outside! Wait, treasure what now? I thought ya were tryin' to get her to join a band'a thieves! Yes, because you stumbled into the conversation halfway through. And he thinks I'm the kind of person who'd try to drag you into a life of crime... Tch, talk about insulting. Uhh, Renelle?! Why are ya drawin' yer sword?! Let's just cool off for a second! Do you mind if I take some time to consider your offer, Renelle? Ooh, you'll think about it?! Sure! Take all the time you need! A little help here, Cleo?! It's your own fault for leaping to conclusions. You shall have to resolve this on your own. Apologize, or simply let her stab you some. Well said, partner! I'm no one's partner just yet. So, big guy... How do you wanna do this? I-I'm sorry! Seriously, I'm sorry! W-wait! RENELLE, WAIT!

Episode 3

Her Last Partner

Perhaps you'd care to explain all this? Don't even worry about it! Eat, eat! And if this isn't enough, keep the orders coming! So, you have a chance to think over my offer yet? To become your partner? I suppose I would need to hear what it would entail in a bit more detail first. Sure, I can— Hold that thought. We're gonna need more meat. I'll put in the order. What are you drinking? Water is fine, thank you. But yeah, what's the concern? Worried you don't have the right skills? That's no problem! I taught my brother from the ground up, too. Just between us, I think you'll pick it up even faster than he did. This is the brother who leads an entire band of thieves? That's him. And I taught him all he knows. ...Does it bother you? My brother being a thief, I mean. I think I had better hear the story, at least. Leading a band of thieves isn't exactly the sort of thing you just stumble into. He was always serious growing up. Real straitlaced. Model student. I was the complete opposite. Quickest way to get me to do anything was to tell me I shouldn't. I picked up lock picking and setting traps along the way. Every time I'd pull some stunt, it would be another chorus of ＂Why can't you be more like your brother?＂ You sound like quite the mismatched twins. Yeah, but we were always close. I'd show off whatever new thing I'd learned, and he'd listen with a smile. How did the model student come to take up thieving? I got tossed in the town jail one day for allegedly getting the mayor hurt. Which never happened, by the way! I told them I was innocent, but considering the source, well... You can imagine how much they believed me. But my brother did. So he snuck into the jail that night and sprang me. He what? He broke me out! Jimmied the cell door right open. One of my little tricks. I told you he was a model student; he remembered everything I'd shown him. I imagine the two of you had to leave town? Yup. That's when we started treasure- hunting to pay for our meals. It worked great, until it didn't. We hit a long dry spell. We still needed to eat, though— so he found another use for his skills. Hunting for treasure in the pockets of passersby. ...You didn't think to join him? Nah. Even if it means slim living, I like plying my trade the old honest way. I take pride in being a treasure hunter. ...That was never his dream, though. And if not for me, I can't imagine he'd have wound up in the life he did. Renelle, you can't— So how amazing does this meal look?! I'm gonna eat my weight in meat or pass out trying. Let's dig in!

Episode 4

Regrets

Any luck convincing Cleo to become your partner, Renelle? Oh, I gave up on that. I could feel us starting to become friends. Isn't that a good thing? Not if you're me. I take my friendships seriously. I'm all in. But my brother's got himself a whole bandit empire. If I stick around here, who can say we don't wind up enemies? I'm not dragging Cleo into the middle of that. No way. I see... If your paths were to cross in the future—you and your brother—what would you do? ...I don't know. I've actually had the feeling lately that I won't ever see him again. That he's already dead. I do hear news of some of the larger bandit clans at times. ...A few HAVE been wiped out. Do you regret it? Bringing your brother into the treasure-hunting life with you? Pff, what DON'T I regret? Everybody would be better off if I'd never been born. It's just a mess from top to bottom. If I'd been a half-decent kid, I never would've been thrown in jail over what happened to the mayor. And then I wouldn't have needed to be sprung OUT of jail by my poor brother. I never should have shown him how to do any of that stuff in the first place. ...He must hate me. He SHOULD. I ruined his life. I don't think that's true, Renelle. Then what did? The moment someone lays aside their convictions, they lose part of themselves. He believed in your innocence, so he followed those convictions and acted. Wherever that choice led him afterward, I'm sure he never regretted making it. I know I wouldn't. ...You know? I think I can finally believe that. ＂Finally＂? He always said the exact same thing when I'd apologize. I figured he was just saying it to make me feel better. So thank you, Euden.

Episode 5

Put 'Er There, Partner

Renelle! Renelle, ya here?! HEY, TREASURE HUNTER! Ranzal? What? Where's the fire? The bandit army that's been ravagin' the north is sendin' envoys to every nation on the continent, and ours just arrived. Bandit armies send envoys? The biggest one in Grastaea does. They've swallowed up seven other major bands in the last few years. And get this: their leader's your age. Don't tell me... They're offering to cease all criminal activity if we allow them to cultivate the land in the northern wastes. What, to build farms or something? Many were farmers before drought and famine drove them to thieving. And they have other tradespeople within their ranks. Farms are just the start. They could eventually build a nation. I don't like lettin' 'em off after all they've done, but I guess a nation of farmers is better than an army'a thieves. Anyway, that's the story. They're gatherin' reps for a summit to hash out the details. We're sendin' Euden and me. Oh, and yer comin', too. Me? Why me? Your presence was requested by name. You're his sister, aren't you? Y-yeah, but... This is crazy. I feel like I'm dreaming. Well, rise and shine, little lady, 'cause we got us a meetin' to get to! Right! Yes, I'm coming! ...Wait, what did you just call me?! Oh man, what'd I say this time? I told you the next time you called me ＂little lady,＂ I'd have your head as a souvenir! Gah, sorry! Slip of the tongue! I didn't mean it! Won't happen again! Hmmm... Sounds like you need a little reminder to watch your mouth, Ranzal. Whoa, whoa—she's got her sword out again! Easy, Renelle. He didn't mean to offend you. Try to forgive him. ...Fine. If that's what my partner wants. ...That's it? She just...backed down? Wait a second—＂partner＂? Since when are you and Euden partners? First I'm hearing of it as well. Euden's the one worthy of the spot. I mean, I want Euden to take it. I can't imagine anybody BUT Euden! So please say you'll do it! Tough to say no after all that. If you'll have me, I'd be delighted. Partner. Yesss! Ahh, this is the start of something TRULY beautiful!
