Adventurer Story Episodes
A Priest Seeking Knighthood
Hope: *sigh* I don't wanna...
Euden: Hey, what are you doing here?
Euden: This place gets overrun with fiends when the sun goes down. You should head home while you can.
Hope: Oh, really?
Hope: My journey's taken me a bit too far from home to head back now, though.
Euden: Haven't you arranged any sort of accommodation for the night?
Hope: Nope. I was planning on staying in the church in the next village.
Hope: See, I'm in training to be a priest.
Hope: Truth be told, though, I'm not really looking forward to getting there...
Hope: Staying at the church means I'll have to give sermons and listen to confessions and all sorts of annoying stuff like that.
Hope: Hey, YOU wouldn't happen to know a place nearby I could stay, would you?
Hope: Besides a church, of course.
Euden: Well, I live in a castle not too far from here. You're welcome to stay there.
Euden: But are you sure you don't have to go to the church? I wouldn't want to keep you from your studies...
Hope: Aw, it's fine! All of that stuff is a real pain in the neck anyway.
Hope: Besides, it's not like I WANT to train to be a priest.
Hope: But hey, how about we head to the castle?
Hope: Whoaaaa! This place is amazing!
Hope: Do you really live here?
Euden: Actually, I own it.
Hope: WHAAAAT?!
Hope: Who ARE you, mister?
Euden: Oh, I never did introduce myself, did I? My name's Euden.
Hope: As in, Prince Euden?!
Hope: Wait. If you're royalty, does that mean your knights live here, too?!
Euden: They do, though not all of this castle's residents are knights.
Hope: Whoa...
Hope: I, uh... I'm Hope! It's an honor to make your royal acquaintance!
Euden: Oh, um... It's nice to meet you too, Hope.
Euden: What inspired the sudden excitement?
Hope: Well, you see, it's my dream to become a knight and protect people like you, Your Highness!
Euden: I thought you said you were training to become a priest?
Hope: Well... My parents are priests, and they wanted me to follow in their footsteps, so they kind of forced me into training.
Hope: But I'd much rather be a knight and put my life on the line to protect people from harm. Knights are the BEST!
Hope: Can I ask you a favor?
Hope: I know you said I could stay here tonight, but could I stay longer? Pleeease?
Hope: I want to see actual knights in actual battles for myself!
Hope: If you let me stay, I'll do anything you ask!
Euden: Well... All right. It's fine by me.
Hope: Yesss!
Hope: Then I'm gonna get right to sparring practice! A knight's no good if he can't swing a sword!
Euden: Actually, I was going to ask you to clean the altar first.
Euden: Since you're a priest-in-training and all.
Hope: What?! I thought I'd finally get to learn how to be a knight...
The Desire to Protect
Hope: Defending against the enemy's ceaseless onslaught, the brave knight casts his sight around for an opening—
Elisanne: The altar is no place to be swinging your staff about, Hope. What are you doing?
Hope: Master Elisanne!
Elisanne: ...Master?
Hope: Yes!
Hope: One day I'm going to quit being a priest and become a knight.
Hope: Maybe it's a little soon, but you're exactly the kind of knight I want to be—and I want to learn a lot from you, so it feels appropriate to call you "master."
Hope: Which reminds me—I was just playing out a battle when you arrived!
Hope: What did you think? Was I moving right?
Elisanne: You have chores you ought to be concentrating on.
Elisanne: You are in charge of cleaning the altar, are you not?
Hope: Well, I... I was gonna do that later.
Hope: Training to be a knight is WAY more important!
Hope: Speaking of which: What kind of training do you do, Master Elisanne?
Hope: It would really help me if you would let me watch!
Elisanne: It sounds as if you're grasping for any excuse to wriggle out of your chores.
Hope: *gulp*
Elisanne: To be frank, you are a priest, not a knight. You have work to do.
Hope: But...there's no point in being a priest.
Elisanne: What do you mean?
Hope: All priests do is preach nice-sounding things and listen to confessions and give boring sermons.
Hope: What good does any of it do? There's no point!
Elisanne: I cannot say I agree...
Hope: I don't want to be a priest.
Hope: I...I want to protect people.
Hope: I'm ready to take up the sword. I'm ready to be a shield.
Hope: I'm ready to sacrifice my life to save someone else!
Elisanne: I see. That is indeed admirable.
Elisanne: However, one who shirks their duties has no hope of becoming a knight.
Hope: *gulp* Y-you're right...
Hope: All right, Master Elisanne... I'll get to cleaning, as boring as it is.
Elisanne: Good. When you're finished, you may attend me while I train.
Hope: You mean it?!
Elisanne: I do. Your desire to protect others is genuine.
Elisanne: But do not misunderstand.
Elisanne: I do not approve of your plan to abandon priesthood for knighthood—
Hope: Oh, thank you! One squeaky clean altar, comin' right up!
Hope: I'll see you at training!
Elisanne: Honestly...
Elisanne: I suppose it will take more than stern words to curb your knightly aspirations...
A Means of Protecting People
Fiend: Graaaaggghh!
Euden: Hyah!
Euden: Elisanne! Now!
Elisanne: Say no more! Hyaaaahhh!
Fiend: Graaagh...
Elisanne: We made it. Are you hurt, Your Highness?
Euden: Not with you watching my back. Thanks.
Elisanne: Please, it is my duty as a knight. Save your thanks.
Hope: Man, there's really nothing cooler than a true knight in action!
Hope: Um, Prince Euden?
Hope: Can I fight too, next time?
Hope: Give me a sword! Or a lance! Heck, anything! I'll show you what I can do!
Hope: Please?
Euden: But, Hope...you're a priest.
Euden: It's too dangerous for you to be on the front lines.
Hope: That's not true!
Hope: I've been training with Master Elisanne!
Elisanne: I don't think being knocked to the ground counts as training.
Hope: *gulp* Please don't bring that up...
Hope: Besides, Master Elisanne, my desire to protect people is genuine!
Hope: You said so yourself!
Hope: So let me fight.
Elisanne: Indeed, I did say that. Fighting, however, is not the only way we can protect people.
Hope: What do you mean?
Elisanne: Why do you think I allowed you to hold that sword earlier, Hope?
Hope: U-um... So I could train the way a knight does, right?
Hope: You taught me how to use a sword to protect people.
Elisanne: I am afraid you're mistaken.
Elisanne: The real reason is because I wanted you to realize what swords cannot protect.
Hope: I don't understand.
Elisanne: Then it is still too soon for you to speak of protecting people.
Hope: H-hold on! What are you talking about? I don't get it!
Elisanne: Think on it some more...
Elisanne: Why it is that you wield not a sword or a lance, but a staff.
Elisanne: And what it is that you can protect not with sword or lance, but with that staff.
Hope: Things I can protect with my staff...
Hope: You're talking in riddles... I don't get it!
What Priests Can Do
Elisanne: *pant* *pant*
Elisanne: How long will these fiends continue chasing us?!
Euden: Elisanne, Hope... I'm sorry. You two should run—
Euden: Hngh!
Elisanne: I am the one who should apologize!
Elisanne: You were injured because I failed to realize the fiends' intent to ambush us. I do not deserve the title of knight.
Euden: It's not your fault, Elly. I didn't realize either.
Euden: Hope, are you all right?
Hope: Yes, I'm fine.
Hope: But I'm sorry. I was right there, and I still couldn't protect you.
Fiend: Graaaaggghh!
Elisanne: They have us surrounded. There's no way for us all to escape.
Elisanne: Hope... You get out of here.
Hope: What?
Hope: What are you saying, Master Elisanne?!
Elisanne: I will lure the fiends away.
Elisanne: You take Euden and get out of here!
Hope: But—
Hope: You're injured! If you fight the fiends alone, you'll be killed!
Elisanne: Do you truly believe I would die so easily?
Elisanne: Just do as I say. Take Euden and go.
Hope: You can't... No!
Hope: If I just had a sword or a lance—anything but this stupid staff—I could have protected them...
Hope: Wait... What did Master Elisanne say?
Hope: Think...
Hope: About the things I can protect with my staff... About what only a staff can do...
Hope: That's right!
Hope: I can heal them!
Hope: I can only manage a little first aid in a situation like this, but it should be enough to get us out of here!
Hope: *pant* *pant*
Hope: Finally... Lost the fiends... I'm so tired...
Euden: Rightly so. Thank you, Hope.
Euden: We need to rest. I doubt any of us can continue much longer...
Elisanne: Indeed. There may be more fiends to fight on the way back to the castle.
Elisanne: I suggest we take a respite in that village.
Villager: You there! Drop your weapons! And don't take a step closer to our village!
Euden: Wait, please. We only need to rest.
Euden: We intend you no harm—
Villager: Well, forgive me if I don't just take your word for it!
Euden: Why are they being so defensive? Ah, of course; there have been more and more bandits disguised as travelers lately.
Hope: Villagers! Listen to me!
Hope: I'm not a knight or swordsman—I'm a priest! As you can tell, I carry no weapons!
Hope: If these two do attack, then you can take your revenge on me!
Hope: But please! Just let us in to rest!
Elisanne: Hope...
Villager: A priest, eh? Fine then.
Villager: But the moment either of your friends so much as twitches their blade, we're taking you as our prisoner.
Euden: Thank you, Hope. Finally, we can rest.
Euden: It seems all you've done today is save us.
Hope: Nah...
Hope: I can't fight the fiends, so this is about all I can do to help.
Elisanne: It is as Euden says.
Elisanne: Having a priest along was invaluable. Thank you.
Hope: Master Elisanne...
Hope: I'm just glad being a priest finally came in handy!
To Protect a Protector
Hope: The enemy swings at the brave knight, who repels the blow with a snap of his blade— and finishes his foe with one final thrust!
Elisanne: Playing knight at the altar again, Hope?
Elisanne: What happened to cleaning?
Hope: Oh, I'm already finished!
Hope: I guess I just kinda slip back into training out of habit.
Euden: There's not a speck of dust to be seen. Well done.
Euden: You've certainly become more diligent about cleaning.
Hope: Well... Uh... That's because...
Hope: I've decided to take becoming a priest more seriously.
Euden: Have you? Well, that's great to hear!
Euden: But I seem to recall you saying you'd rather be a knight not too long ago.
Euden: Why the sudden change of heart?
Hope: Well, fighting those fiends the other day made me realize something.
Hope: I healed my wounded friends, and I earned the trust of people scarred by violence.
Hope: I was able to do those things not because I was a knight, but because I was a priest.
Hope: Don't get me wrong, knights are still pretty amazing.
Hope: But that's exactly why I want to be a priest, not a knight.
Hope: I want to be the best priest I can be so I can protect the knights I admire.
Euden: That's a very mature decision, Hope.
Elisanne: If that is your aim, then I will assist you however I can.
Elisanne: Though...if you are truly intent on becoming a priest, does that not mean you will have to leave the castle?
Hope: Oh... Well, about that...
Hope: I'd really like to stay, if it's possible.
Euden: Are you sure being here will give you the priestly experience you need?
Hope: Come on, I've become an AMAZING priest since I came to this castle! ...I mean, I think I have, at least. Heh.
Hope: See, back when I was traveling as a priest-in-training, I had ZERO desire to actually become one.
Hope: It's only since I came here that I started thinking I'd actually like to do it.
Hope: That's why I think the best thing I could do for my studies is stay here, in the castle.
Hope: Besides, I mean, everyone keeps getting hurt in battle.
Hope: Where else am I gonna get so much hands-on healing practice?
Hope: So, Your Highness, I beg you!
Hope: Please let me pursue my studies here!
Euden: You're welcome to stay here for as long as you like, Hope.
Elisanne: I will face battles with far more peace of mind knowing you are here.
Elisanne: I fear I will often have need of your healing abilities, Hope.
Hope: Ha! You can both count on me. Heck, EVERYONE can count on me!
Hope: I'm going to protect everyone in the castle!
