New Year's has arrived, and as people delight in the kimonos they receive from Ieyasu, the hospitality face-off begins with a battle of osechi. Botan offers up hers with confidence, but ends up losing to Sazanka's flawless food.

Happy New Year, one and all! Happy New Year! We've made it to another year. I must say, that sudden competition made me worry about your true intentions. My apologies if I caused you undue worry. But it was worth it, 'cause we got one heckuva show! That was some serious swordsmanship! I learned quite a bit from seeing your style up close like that. Yeah, that's all well and good, but let's get back to the otoshidama gift thing. Is it really just these tiny little fragments? Ah, but you are all quite formidable. I fear I must yield to you. As promised, allow me to give you these. I feel like I've seen these fragments before, but maybe not? Aren't these otherworld fragments? The ones with the power to warp space! Then you are familiar with them? Most interesting. In our land, we call them "heavenly gleamshards," or just gleamshards. These were given to us by Amaterasu for later entertainment. Some sort of surprise? I'm confident you'll enjoy it. However, before that happens, please take these as a souvenir. Hmm? What are they? So these are Hinomotoan kimonos! Oh, this is just ADORABLE! I look pretty sharp in these duds, yeah? Yeah! They're awesome! I'm a bit shy about all the brilliant colors, but I suppose there's nothing wrong with a little showiness now and again. The quality of these garments is impeccable. Are you certain you wish to part with them so easily? It is what Master Ieyasu commands. Pretty spiffy, eh, Euden?! I can't believe you even thought to bring one that would fit Notte. We brought all manner of sizes, as we were uncertain what people might dwell in other lands. I'm glad to see we had something suitable. And with this, our preparations are complete, and the hospitality face-off can begin in earnest!

Hospitality Face-Off Round One: Osechi Botan VS Sazanka So this "osechi" stuff is food, right? I feel as though I can see what the outcome is going to be already. D-don't be so sure! I taste-tested it this time and everything! Ugh. I utterly failed. Yep. You utterly failed. You failed. Utterly. Hate to say it, Botan, but yer pretty much outclassed here. I fear I must agree. Not only is the other seasoning superior, but the presentation is beyond reproach. H-hey now! Botan's osechi wasn't bad! In that case, why were you forcing it down with literal goblets of water? Gya! I mean...um...I like water? You're so good at cooking, Sazanka. That was stupid delicious. You honor me far too much. I am merely carrying out my duties. Urgh... I guess I can't beat Sazanka's cooking after all. But we're not done yet; I've still got a chance to turn this baby around!
