Hinomoto is an island nation located across the sea to the far east of Alberia. It is a shogunate ruled by the shogun, the head general, and the dragon Amaterasu. The shogun commands all the humans and Amaterasu rules over the other dragons. Amaterasu only acts when the nation is in some kind of danger. The day-to-day aspects of ruling are carried out by the shogun. Amaterasu appoints the shogun to the position, who shares their power with the ruler of dragons.
Twelve Wyrmclans
Hinomoto has ruling families known as the Twelve Wyrmclans. The head of each family is a candidate to become shogun. The heads of the Twelve Wyrmclans are permitted to forge pacts between a dragon and their own soul—a soulpact. In Hinomoto, soulpacts are permitted for the shogun and heads of the Wyrmclans alone. The duty of the Twelve Wyrmclans is threefold: (1) They fight to protect Hinomoto using the power granted to them by the soulpact. (2) They govern their various territories. (3) They are responsible for the festivals honoring Amaterasu. The strength of a dragon is mighty indeed, but there must by necessity be an equivalent price paid for such power. The soul provides an intermediary for the soulpact. Thus, those who form this pact are doomed to a shortened life. This is why the successor family has twelve branches—so when the shogun dies, there is assured to be at least one heir ready to take their place.

Culture
The providing of hospitality is extremely important in the culture of Hinomoto. They came to the Halidom in order to hold the largest of said festivals, which is a celebration of the new year. New Year's Day is one where Amaterasu brings luck and cheer to all of our people. At some point in time, it was decided that this fortune should be shared with all, and not merely kept for the people of Hinomoto. Festivities include hanetsuki and Otoshidama. Otoshidama originally referred to receiving the good fortune shared by Amaterasu. However, it now refers to a more tangible gift given with the goal of making the recipient happy.
Traditional dishes include soba noodles and osechi. A traditional meal eaten in Hinomoto at New Year is made of various ingredients, each with their own intrinsic meaning. For example, shrimp are for longevity and herring roe is for prosperous offspring.
