Adventurer Story Episodes
Skating onto the Scene
Euden: Let's see... I think that's everything we needed to buy, right?
Elisanne: Yes. Shall we head back to the castle?
Woman: Aaaaaaugh! Purse-snatcher! Someone stop him!
Elisanne: A purse-snatcher?!
Euden: Over there, Elisanne! C'mon!
Snatcher: Bwa ha ha! Too slow, kiddies!
Euden: What the...? He's gonna escape by SHIP?!
Elisanne: Blast! We'll not be able to secure him if he sets off down the river.
Snatcher: Smell ya later, suckers!
Elisanne: Huh? Your Highness, look over there!
Euden: Um... is that a person running ON the water?
Orsem skates onto the scene.
Orsem: Stop right there, thief!
Euden: Whoa! He jumped!
Elisanne: Then he spun through the air and landed behind the purse-snatcher!
Orsem: Perfect landing! Aaaand you're captured!
Snatcher: The heck's your deal, weirdo?! Lemme go!
Orsem: I am Orsem, and I travel the world preaching the gospel of ice skating!
Snatcher: I know those words, but they don't make any sense in that order. Now get yer paws off'a me already!
Orsem: What's not to understand? Skating is fun!
Orsem: But before you can try it, you need to go apologize to that woman.
Orsem: It's not nice to take things from people by force.
The boat returns to the shore.
Elisanne: Oh, they came back to shore!
Orsem: Now go tell the local officials what you did and beg them for clemency.
Snatcher: Dammit... I won't forget this!
Woman: Thank you for returning my purse, sir!
Man: Whoa. You're one cool dude!
Girl: Can you really run on the water, mister?
Orsem: Ah ha ha! What I was doing earlier is called "skating!"
Orsem: Skating is a whirlwind of delight, and all who are interested are welcome to come learn the art with me!
Orsem skates around, showing off.
Euden: Pretty impressive. But hey, tell me more about this "skating" thing.
Orsem: Wait, you're interested in skating?! Then come with me to the river!
Orsem begins dragging Euden to the river.
Euden: Whoa! S-stop pulling me!
Elisanne: Sir! You will unhand His Highness at once or answer to me for this outrage!
Orsem: His... Highness?
Orsem: Wait, are you a KING?!
Orsem: Oh man, this is six different kinds of incredible. I've never met a king before.
Orsem: And hey! Since you're a king, you could help me make skating famous!
Orsem: It's my dream to spread the joy of skating throughout the whole world, see?
Orsem: So go order your subject to stop whatever they're doing and SKATE!
Euden: Er, that's... not really how it works.
Orsem: First I must tell you in excruciating detail what makes skating so great so that you can spread its joys around the world.
Orsem: So how about it? Can I come with you and tell you all about skating? It's okay, right? Riiiiiight?!
Euden: I, er... Well, that is to say... Sure?
Orsem: YA-HOOOO! Now I'll be able to get people laced up and skating the world over!
Elisanne: Are you sure we should invite him to the castle, Highness? He seems quite mad.
Euden: I, um... Well, I suppose it can't hurt to at least hear him out?
Skating into New Hearts
Euden: Orsem called me to the courtyard, but I'm not entirely sure why.
Ranzal: That guy got you out here too, Euden?
Euden: I'm assuming we both received the same invitation.
Elisanne: Oh, it's not just the two of you.
Cleo: We did as well.
Euden: What in the world could he be planning?
Orsem finally shows up.
Orsem: Ah, wonderful! You all made it!
Euden: Er, yes. But why, exactly?
Orsem: Because I'm going to teach you more about the magic of skating!
Orsem: And on that note... ta-daah! Let our deep dive into the art of the foot blades begin!
Elisanne: If I'm not mistaken, skating involves gliding atop frozen surfaces, yes?
Elisanne: I fear we have no such areas here in the courtyard.
Orsem: Aw, don't worry your head over that! Take a gander here. If I do like so...
Orsem begins to put the blades onto his shoes.
Ranzal: He's stickin' somethin' to his shoes.
Orsem: These are my skating blades. If I slip them on my shoes like so and stand...
The ground beneath his feet begins to freeze.
Euden: Holy cow! The spot under your feet just turned to ice!
Orsem: Right you are! When you attach these blades to your shoes, you can create a path of ice anywhere you like.
Euden: So, when we first saw you running on the river, it's because you were using these magic shoes to freeze it?
Orsem: Magic BLADES, my good man. Not shoes. But yes, they are imbued with ice mana.
Orsem: The place I come from is a snowy land, and all of my people are deft hands when it comes to wielding ice mana.
Cleo: And with these ice-infused blades, a person can skate in all sorts of places?
Orsem: Exactly so! That's why skating is super duper MEGA popular where I come from! ...Or it used to be.
Cleo: I take it something changed?
Orsem: Er, well, you see... That is, I... Um...
Orsem: M-more importantly, I'd love for all of you to try skating! It's SO much fun!
Ranzal: Yeah, but don't we need yer magic shoe dealies?
Orsem: Magic BLADES! Not shoes. Goodness me. But here, why don't you just take these and give 'em a whirl?!
Ranzal: How many'a these things do ya have?!
Orsem: Crateloads! I won't rest until every person in the world knows the magic of gracefully gliding across the ice.
Orsem: I never go anywhere without spare blades. You never know when there might be someone else ready to be converted!
Elisanne: This seems like an incredible amount of effort merely to spread word of a hobby.
Orsem: A hobby that is, alas, little known outside of my people.
Orsem: Which is why it's my duty to spread the good word to all.
Euden: I suppose I hadn't even heard of it before meeting you.
Orsem: Exactly! And there are loads of people just like you!
Orsem: Doesn't it seem like a waste that something so enjoyable isn't better known among the people?
Orsem: Hence, this is now my life's work.
Euden: Let me make sure I understand: You left your hometown and now travel the world all alone so you can talk about... skating?
Ranzal: Bwa ha ha! It's like yer some kinda public ambassador or missionary or whatever!
Orsem: Aw, you're making me blush.
Orsem: I do hope that you all come to love skating as much as I.
Orsem: And I'll do anything to make it happen!
Orsem: Wanna give it a shot? I'm happy to show you all my techniques!
Euden: Well, we can't very well refuse after such a... passionate display.
Orsem: Yaaay! Then let's get to it!
Orsem: First, attach the blades to your shoes and stand on the ground.
Orsem: Then you go like "hngh!" and push forward like "yaaah!" and skate along the ice like "fsssheeeewww!"
Orsem: And THEN you do like "boing!" and a flip. Oh, and when you stop, you do a spin like "bwwaaawawawawawa!"
Orsem: Easy, right?!
Euden: ......
Cleo: Your attitude is commendable, but your instructional technique... needs much work.
Skating through the Battlefield
Orsem: Now then, where could those fiends be?
Euden: Er, Orsem? I'm happy to have your help, but are you sure this is a good idea?
Orsem: Whatever do you mean?
Euden: Well, you're not a fighter, are you?
Euden: I'd think that battling monsters and so on might be dangerous for a person with your... specific skill set.
Orsem: Don't you worry yourself about that! And hey, isn't it the same for you, Euden?
Euden: Is it?
Orsem: Yeah! I mean, you're a prince, right? Isn't it dangerous for you to be out slaying fiends and whatnot?
Euden: Well I suppose it is dangerous, but it's also my duty.
Euden: I'd do anything to protect my land and people. They're very important to me.
Orsem: And is that cause one you would give up your dreams for?
Euden: What do you mean?
A fiend shows up, interrupting their conversation.
Fiend: Grrrraaagh!
Orsem: Found you at last. Have at you, fiends!
Euden: Orsem, wait! You can't just charge at them skates-first!
Orsem: Think you can catch me, villains?! Ha ha ha! Come at me!
Orsem skates around the fiends.
Euden: Oh wow... He's skating around the fiends so much that it's confusing them!
Orsem: And now...
Orsem: A bit of this!
He skates around, taking the fiends out with ease and landing on the back of a fiend he froze.
Orsem: Too bad for you! I'm over here, fiends!
Euden: What the...? He jumped and landed on the frozen fiend's back!
Orsem: A perfect landing! ...Whoa! You can still move, eh?!
Fiend: Grrrrr!
Euden: Watch out! Haaaaaah!
Euden slays the fiend, saving Orsem.
Orsem: Phew! Thanks for the assist there, Euden!
Euden: You can't ever let your guard down during a fight, Orsem.
Orsem: Heh... Sorry about that.
Euden: Even so, I'm pretty surprised by how well you did out there.
Orsem: I want to prove that someone can fight even when they're still into skating.
Euden: What exactly do you mean by that?
Orsem: You remember how I told you that skating was very popular where I come from?
Orsem: Note that I was "was." ...Meaning "used to be."
Orsem: But every year, the number of fiends in my homeland kept growing, and my friends soon abandoned their skates for the sword.
Orsem: Even though they all supposedly loved it, they gave it up.
The scene transitions into a flashback.
Orsem: Why do you have to stop skating?! I thought you loved it!
Orsem: What about our dream of us spreading its joy all around the world?!
Orsem's Friend: We can't just mess around with inane dreams forever, Orsem.
Orsem's Friend: Maybe you ought to quit being irresponsible and face reality.
The flashback ends.
Orsem: ...I was completely stunned by that.
Orsem: Just like you, my home is precious to me, and I would do anything to protect it.
Orsem: Still, I could never give up skating!
Orsem: Why must I choose between the two things that are important to me?!
Euden: I'm not sure what to say, Orsem...
Orsem: Anyway, that's why I trained to develop a skating fighting style - so I could battle fiends and continue my love of the blades.
Orsem: It seemed a good way to take care of both problems at once.
Orsem: Also, it's when times are hardest that it's MOST important to keep dreaming.
Orsem: Do you think it's bad to dream, Euden?
Euden: Not at all. I've got a dream of my own, in fact.
Euden: I want to create a kingdom where everyone can live happily.
Euden: That's why I understand how you feel.
Euden: So let's work as hard as possible and make our dreams come true no matter what hardship comes out way.
Orsem: It's a promise, Euden!
Skating into Trouble
Euden: Orsem! ...Orseeeeem! If you're there, say something!
Elisanne: Did you find him, Your Highness?
Euden: No. I take it you haven't spotted any clues either, Elly?
Elisanne: No. It's hard to believe he's been missing for three whole days.
Elisanne: I can't imagine he's actually gone for good though - he left all his things at the castle.
Euden: Hopefully he hasn't gotten himself into trouble.
Kidnapper 1: Oy, lookee here! We gots some moneyed fops runnin' right at us.
Kidnapper 1: Heh heh. We could rack up a mighty fine ransom what if we got our hands on ya!
Elisanne: A kidnapper!
Kidnapper 1: Oy, don't go sayin' words like "kidnapper," now! I'm a hunter - just that my prey ain't your usual beasts, is all.
Kidnapper 1: And I've been mighty lucky, let me tell ya. Just recently, I nabbed myself some feller what can freeze anything!
Euden: That has to be Orsem.
Elisanne: You there! Kidnapper!
Elisanne: You will tell me the location of your lair, upon pain of death! Now... ready yourself!
The scene changes to Euden and the gang infiltrating the kidnapper's lair.
Euden: ...Good. We managed to slip inside.
Ranzal: And look who's here!
Attention is turned to Orsem and the kidnappers.
Orsem: C'mon, let's go skating together! It's loads of fun!
Orsem: We're going to go and spread the word together, right?
Orsem: And since that's the plan, it's essential that you know how much fun it is first-hand.
Kidnapper 2: Yeah, yeah. We all love skatin' so much. Now shut up already!
Kidnapper 2: I wish this guy would freeze his mouth instead'a the ground...
Kidnapper 3: We gotta sell him off what before he drives me insane!
Attention is turned back to the group.
Cleo: Orsem looks rather cheerful for someone who's been kidnapped.
Ranzal: Pffft. Guys probably pretended to be interested in skating and he came with 'em of his own accord.
Elisanne: Does he not realize he's been tricked? Ugh, what a credulous man.
Euden: Well, at least he's not hurt. Now let's go rescue him!
The group jumps out of hiding to confront the kidnappers.
Elisanne: Stop right there, you kidnapping churls!
Kidnapper 2: Eh? Who the heck are you people?!
Kidnapper 2: Hwargh!
The kidnapper is swiftly beat and falls over.
Euden: Orsem! You okay?!
Orsem: Huh? Oh, hey, Euden! What brings you here?
Euden: You're being tricked! These people have no intention of helping you fulfill your dream!
Euden: They just want to sell you to someone who wants your abilities!
Orsem: Soooo... you're NOT going to spread the joy of skating across the world?
Kidnapper 3: ARGH! SHUT UP ABOUT SKATIN' ALREADY! We only ever cared about yer powers, ya dumb idjit!
Kidnapper 3: And that's why we'd be real upset if ya was to escape, see? Now outta the way!
Euden attacks the kidnapper.
Euden: Orsem, you have to get out of here!
Orsem: They... were lying... Haaa...
Orsem begins to put his skates on, causing the ground to freeze.
Euden: ...Uh, guys? Is it just me, or is the floor starting to freeze in here?
Orsem: I'm as much at fault for being tricked... But even so, I cannot forgive this...
Orsem: I can never forgive someone who abuses my skating dream!
Orsem begins skating around, cutting down the last of the kidnappers.
Kidnapper 3: Aw, crap! This guy's stupid fast!
Kidnapper 4: H-hey! Don't run off and... AAAARRRGGHH!
Euden: Look how fast he's moving...
Ranzal: I can't even follow him!
Orsem: And now we come to you...
Kidnapper 3: Hngaaahh!
The final kidnapper is defeated by Orsem.
Cleo: Well, I suppose that's that. Orsem, are you hurt?
Orsem: ...I'm fine, Cleo.
Cleo: Good, because you really had us worried.
Elisanne: She's right, Orsem.
Elisanne: It's all well and good to give your all for your dreams, but you need to be a little more aware of what's going on around you.
Orsem: ...I will reflect on this. And I'm sorry for worrying you all.
Orsem: I don't know what else to say.
Ranzal: Hey, yer okay, al all's well that ends well. Plus all the other kidnappin' victims seem to be okay, too.
Ranzal: Let's free 'em and get back to the castle.
Orsem: Oh, er... yes. Let's do that.
Orsem: But do I even have the right to go back...?
Euden: Did you say something, Orsem?
Skating Toward Their Dreams
Orsem: I should leave the castle. It's better this way.
Orsem: Euden, thank you for everything. ...Good-bye.
Euden: Orsem! Hey, wait!
Orsem begins to run off, while Euden tries to catch up to him.
Orsem: Euden?! Why are you...?
Euden: *huff* *huff* I'm glad I made it in time.
Euden: What's with this letter you left behind? Why are you going back to your homeland?
Orsem: Because my being in the castle is nothing but a burden to others.
Orsem: Like how I was taken in by those ne'er-do-wells the other day and ended up making lots of trouble for everyone.
Orsem: I may have left my home, but nothing has really changed.
Euden: How do you mean?
The scene changes to a flashback of what Elisanne said in Chapter 4.
Elisanne: It's all well and good to give your all for your dreams, but you need to be a little more aware of what's going on around you.
The scene changes to a flashback of what Orsem's friend said.
Orsem's Friend: Maybe you ought to quit being irresponsible and face reality.
The flashbacks end.
Orsem: I calmed myself down and took a look around me, and I realized the truth: In the end, dreams are just that.
Orsem: That's why I figured it was time for me to forget about skating and go back home to become a true warrior.
Orsem: After all, it doesn't matter how hard I try; my dream will never come true.
Euden: I don't think that's true at all. In fact, look behind you.
Orsem: Look behind me...?
Behind him is a crowd of fanatics and people interested in skating.
Girl: Oooh! It's the skater man!
Man: Hey, mister! Show us that thing you did where you slide around the ice!
Woman 1: I wanna try that!
Euden: Looks like there are plenty of people interested in your talent.
Boy: Thanks for saving me the other day, mister!
Orsem: Ah. You were held captive by the brigands as well, yes?
Boy: You were so cool! You were like KA-ZOOM and then you went WHAM and all the bad people were like AAAARRRGGH!
Woman 2: Even though we were captured, your sunny attitude helped us through that most dark time.
Boy: Hey! I wanna try that, too! Tell me how! C'mon, tell me!
Orsem: I'm so moved by your words...
Euden: Oh, and Orsem? Elisanne telling you to be more aware of what's around you wasn't her blaming you for anything.
Euden: I mean, sure, she wants you to face reality, but that's not ALL she was saying.
Euden: You're forthright to a fault, and if you're not careful, you could end up getting hurt. She just doesn't want that to happen.
Orsem: You mean like when I was kidnapped.
Euden: Exactly. And Orsem, you ARE fulfilling your dream, even if slowly.
Euden: That's why you don't need to rush headlong into things and do it all at once.
Euden: There are already lots of people around you who are becoming skating fanatics, after all.
Euden: You see? Take an even closer look.
Attention is placed on the group of fanatics.
Orsem: ...I get it now. I was in such a haste to make my dream a reality, that I didn't stop to look at what was already around me.
Orsem: There are so many people interested in learning about my beloved skating...
Euden: Orsem, I'm not a prince with lots of power and influence like my brothers.
Euden: But as your friend, I still want to help you make your dream a reality.
Euden: So, let's do it together. What do you say?
Orsem: Aaaah ha ha! I've been such a dope!
Orsem: I just hadn't realized the truth that I'm not alone anymore.
Orsem: And that won't do! I have to tell each and every one of these people about the magic of gliding across the ice!
Orsem: With this many future fanatics gathered, I'm going to need even more blades!
Orsem: Just a moment while I go fetch them. Everyone else, meet me in the courtyard!
The scene changes to everyone in the courtyard.
Orsem: Ta-daaah! Let our deep dive into the art of the foot blades begin!
Orsem: First, attach the blades to your shoes and stand on the ground.
Orsem: That's it. Now alternate back and forth with your feet. Ready... go! Left! Right! Left! Right!
Ranzal: Guy's explanations have gotten a lot better, yeah?
Cleo: Indeed. But they're still full of his trademark vigor.
Elisanne: Everyone truly looks to be enjoying themselves.
Orsem: Hey, don't just stand there watching! Come hit the ice already!
Euden: All right! Here I come!
Orsem: Wow, Euden! You've gotten really good!
Orsem: I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am right now.
Orsem: But next time, it's my turn to help YOU achieve YOUR dreams!
Orsem: We'll chase 'em together!
Euden: Thanks, Orsem. I can't wait to see what the future holds for us.
The End.
